Chilli plant

Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom

Hey,

Ok I’ve planted chilli seeds and had my first sprout through yesterday. They are in an electric propagator at the minute. When does it need to come out of the propagator? And are there any specific guidelines to care for it (sorry I don’t have the name of the seeds but I can find out if needed). It will be kept indoors until it gets a lot bigger then I was thinking of putting it outside in summer (we are in zone 8-9) – the sun we get isn’t all that great anyway. So I know about not burning it plant/not over watering etc. Also once they’ve grown and hopefully sprouted chillis does the plant die or does it just die off for winter, i.e. can you cut it down and will it grow next year again? One more question sorry; I read somewhere they can be fed with tomato feed; I was wondering could they be fed with strawberry food? Since it is also recommended strawberries can be fed tomato food; it is all similar stuff or would I need tomato food?

Thank you :)

I will help as much as I can.You can take them out of the propagator as soon as they have some true leaves. They need to be placed a few inches under lights or put in a sunny spot. The chilis are the seed pods. You can dry some to plant for the next season, although some hybrids do not come true from seed.Sometimes they reseed theirselves.Any food used for tomatoes or strawberries can be used on peppers, but while they are seedlings I would use a weak solution of a balanced fertilizer or one that has a slightly higher amount of nitrogen (the first number). The plant needs to develop strong leaves and roots first.Hope this helps a little.

Just checking true leaves are not the first two, but they are the next two that grow?

What does it mean by they can reseed themselves?

I think the strawberry food I have has extra nitrogen in; I'll check before using it obviously.

Yes,they should have 2 sets of leaves.Reseeding means that sometimes a plant drops it's seed by itself or with a little help from nature and comes up the following season in the same spot.Don't count on that though.

I thought that is what you meant; but wasn't 100% sure. Thank you :)
