ardesia, yes they really are good sized and blooming. Here's the 'Fragrant Pink' I haven't planted yet, great deal for $24 I thought, but VERY glad it was a Valentine gift!
Can i have your support please!!!
Some of those are only 4" pots .... that would be pretty small wouldn't it?? Don't believe I have ever seen a camellia that small before........
Genna
those sound like rooted cuttings in 4" pots. They would need a lot of care before planting out - like protection from husbands with lawn mowers!
Fragrant Pink is beautiful! That is the size I like to buy.
Genna,at Doug Young's their Camellias are a 5 gallon for 18.00.Now that is a good price their.
Violabird, that is a pretty one too.
Waaaaaaa, I want to go to this Doug Young's place too. :-)
Ardesia,it's Doug Young's Nursery in Forest Hill.Go to the link that you gave us and order some.
Those prices are great, but I bet freight would kill you on 5 gal containers!! I am almost afraid to go to Forest Hills..... I am concerned with how much money I would spend!! I sure hope to make it there though................
Genna

Genna
Thse are excellent prices for plants that large. Lucky you.
Your welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not bad considering I just paid 19 for a 1 gallon and over 30 for a 3 gallon...... and those prices were some of the lower ones I have seen in this area.
Genna
Absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks Ardesia.
Wow - I need to start me a list of these ones that I really, really like...... That one is a beauty! Where did you pick it up at? Some of them I really want - so I need to work on that list - otherwise I have a hard time remember the names!
Genna
Genna, how for are you for the Louisiana Line?If you are close it would be cheaper for you to go their where you are for now.If you are a ways from their then it would be about the same as driven. One gallons in Shreveport are 9.95 to 10.00 at nursery.
Thanks Genna,my hubby got this at a hard ware store in our town this morning.
I am about an hr and half from the state line if I head DUE South toward Ruston, but about 2.25 hrs from Shreveport and about 2 hrs or slightly over to Monroe. I figure I am 5 -6 hrs from Forest Hills - and the ONLY reason I would be willing to drive that far is to bring (or rent a uhaul down there) a trailer to bring all the plants for my foundation planting home at one time........(plus a few extra Camellias) ^_^ I am still trying to figure out WHICH plants I need and how many.....if I don't have a quantity in mind and go to a place like that, I am afraid I will WAY over spend...... Of course, I am not sure yet if I will even be able to come.
I have an appt with my accountant this afternoon and find out where I stand on taxes - after that, I will have a better idea. .... :( Too bad you can't deduct all the expenses of having a kid in college.................. or for that matter - the ones at HOME!!
Genna
Well, he DID GOOD on that one!
Thanks Genna,i understand.I will still get those names for you.I will make sure.Rob is at work now he won't get off until 7:00.
I'm posting this here after posting it somewhere else on DG. There are currently blooming at the old Cabarrus County Courthouse 2 red camellias. I have no idea what cultivar these are, but if anyone would like me to try to get cuttings from these (without risking life and freedom), please let me know and later this spring I will make an effort to obtain some cuttings. These will probably be limited, so please let me know.
Angie
Angie, the only thing is that they are hard to root from cuttings, unless you really know what you are doing.
Thanks, Cody: They're very pretty and something I've not tried yet. Just thought I'd offer. Posted this on another thread and someone thought I was going to try to steal the cuttings, but I would not try to obtain anything like that without getting proper permission. :-)
LOL!!!Angie, you can still try to do that.Maybe someone knows how to root them.We have a book about rooting them, but it said that it is hard.
My husband's grandmother used to root them with NO problem at all - and nothing special - just put them in water... I have tried a couple of times with no luck, but I think it must have to do with WHEN you try it. I have no idea WHEN that is supposed to be............... If you are able to obtain some cuttings and have any luck with them, I would love to try one - named variety or not. I just think they are all beautiful!
Genna
Wow - sounds like a GREAT BUY!! Amazing !! Where did you manage to find such a steal?
Genna
Thanks Genna,at the Building supply store. We don't have nurserys here so the hardware stores sells plants.
Cody
Wow - I LIKE that Pope Pius! I really MUST start writing these down that I like so much - although our local nurseries do not really have much selection! I purchased another over the weekend ..... my husband fell in love with it and although I don't like their 18.95 price, I bought it anyway! I beleive it was a TC Thomas, but I will have to double check that. They didn't have it labeled, but we looked it up in a book and I wrote the name down...............don't have it with me currently. It was a white bloom with pink stripes in it.... Stunning!
Genna
Thanks Genna, glad you got another one.We can be addicts to these things,i know i am.LOL.....
