Thanks for the info Terry. Cody, your husband mentioned Doug Young to me the other night, but I notice his website says wholesale only...... ?? Can your husband purchase wholesale? I just realized maybe he was able to do that. I have spent almost an hour looking at different websites and dreaming of plants! Think I better pull out that landscape design and see what I can come up with ...................
Genna
Can i have your support please!!!
Genna,Doug Young might have changed, but when my husband went their last he bought stuff.I will call tomorrow and find out.I will let you know.
Any and everybody is welcome to share their Camellia pictures here.We would really love to enjoy them.
Thanks,Cody
I'd like to see a Camellia Forum also. I have just been in touch with Massee Lane Gardens (the historical home of the ACS) asking permission to use their photos from their encylopedia to add to our database.
At my last visit, I was able to add 19 new plants and numerous photos to PlantFiles. I also did this little ditty for my friends who put up with all my photo attempts, lol. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v144/violabird/?action=view¤t=fdc20960.pbr (excuse the music, but hey, it was the right length)
One of my favorite shots
Wow - that is a gorgeous Camellia too! Thanks for sharing.... which one is that??
Genna
Very pretty! Thanks for the photo
Darla
Genna,i just called Doug young's Nursery, you can take a deep breath they are still open to everyone.
Cody
Violabird, that is a beautiful one. Thanks for sharing with us.
Everyone is welcome here.
Violabird, thanks for sharing that site with us.The Massee Lane Gardens looks like a beautiful and awesome place.
Masse Lane is awesome, especially with the scent of Dapne everywhere!
I just hope everyone is doing their part to add these beautiful photos to our PlantFiles! It's been my hope that forums set up will enhance the the reason for adding to our database here. Right now, it's rather hard to even find Camellias, wish we at least had an A-Z lookup.
The previous was 'Easter Morn' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/181707/.
Another goodie, 'Ivory Tower' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/181811/
I know what you mean.Massee Lane looks like a place where you can go and relax and enjoy all the beauty around it.
'Nancy Regan' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/181820/
That one is pretty.I love the color of it.
I'm hoping to go to Forest Hill real soon and i'm going to get more Camellias.
Did you see the one called 'Massee Lane'? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/181887/
2 different reversed varigated blooms on the same plant--still don't know how they acheived it!
'Harriet Bisbee' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/181705/
Yea,i saw that.It is some kind of Mutation that makes them like that.It is neat on how they can do that.
My latest passion is the fragrant camellias, this is one I own and a photo of my own bloom.
'High Fragrance' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/180740/
I like that one to.It looks so fluffy.I just love Camellias know matter what kind they are. They are so many different kinds out their and they are all so beautiful.
That is a pretty one too.How many do you have?
She's a beauty all right and quite large. Naturally I got her at Massy also, last year. The work Dr. Ackerman is doing with cold hardy fragrants is exciting, and he works at Massey quite often. You should see how many of his new fragrants are now scattered over the gardens. I admit, I also have 'Fragrant Pink' & 'Cinnamon Cindy'. In all, I now only have 6 varieties and will be concentrating only on obtaining the fragrants from now on.
Well, I hope all this just isn't all in vain, lol. We need eye candy in the winter and this would make a great new forum IMHO. Have we been told NO yet?
Vi
What's a post w/out a photo, lol. Here's 'Kramer's Beauty' a huge bloom with a bit a scent also.
BTW Cody, if you can purchase Camellias at an ACS garden, you can buy an ACS membership that gives a bunch of goodies AND 10% off your purchases.
Last one, Snowman http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/181706/
Violabird,they are just lovely.
Cody, what's your opinion on the scent of 'Scentsation'? How lucky you are to have so many! What is your zone?
Vi
It has a lightly scent.Maybe because it's been open awhile.
I live in zone 8b.
I can't even add my picture of the Scentsation on the plantfiles.
I had to add many of mine myself. If you go to PlantFiles, it will let you "add a new plant" at the top of the page. You can click on my 'High Fragrance' and use it as a reference to add yours, (I keep 2 windows open) don't worry about ALL the details, the great folks at PF Admin will help or you can fill them in later. Once you add just the name in the format I used, you can add your photos--this would be another 'Hybrid Camellia'.
Hope you get addicted to adding plants to PlantFiles as I am! When I go places now, I take a photo of the plant tag, then photos of the plant, etc. so I remember the names, lol.

Ta-da! http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/finder/index.php?sname=Camellias
Wow - thanks! Now to spend hours looking and daydreaming of camellias.....
Anybody on here tried rooting theirs?? I am just getting started - or more like starting over - on my camellias.... and I wondered how successful fellow DG's are at reproducing their camellias... ?? Suggestions??
Genna
Your are welcome Genna.
Violabird, after i put them under your high Fragrance one.I found out how to add it on their.
Violabird, I am so envious of your visits to Massee Lane. I recently received an email from them with a list of which varieties they had for sale at the gardens. It is an attachment and I can't figure out how to add it here but I bet if you go to the ACS website they are listed there. The prices seemed high until I realized the plants are a good size. Camellias grow so slowly it does not pay to buy babies.
Yes, but even the baby one's bloom. It does take time to grow them.I rather buy babies so i can say they started out as babies. The pictures i posted earlier are babies.
The baby one's have lots of buds on them. Some of them had 2 to 3 blooms on them.

Terry, has anyone told you how wonderful you are lately? Thanks so muich for A-Z!!!
http://jefferson.ifas.ufl.edu/horticulture/pdfs/camellia_layer.pdf
Here is a pdf article on air laying camellias.
Ive heard about old camellia gardens "with the glint of aluminum foil". Gardeners are always starting new camellias to share with their friends.
K, gals, do you want babies? Here's another secret http://www.camelliashop.com/Fragrant_Camellias_s/4.htm It's great news to hear about the small ones cuz they charge a fortune to ship the big ones! I had a friend purchase from the Camelllia shop and was very pleased with the quality of their large ones but not their shipping prices!
Oops, edited to add look at their Home page for more specials.
