Thanks Tilly. This is a good group, I notice it has more folks on it than most other threads!
Weird Weather of '09!! ....... #4
Anywhere near Kelso, hubby's niece lives on a mountain there? I love AVs, and I AM going to get some streps, and I really want to try one of those pink leaf episcias in a glass. I just bought 10 baby avs from Rob's and they are doing nicely in my new plant stand. I check them several times a day; I may kill them with kindness. Most of them had buds on when I got them. It's been snowing off and on for 3 days. It really needs to let up now. I have things to do and people to see.
You're not slow-I just talk too fast. African Violets, Streptocarpus, and Episcias are all in the gesneriad family I believe. Look them up, that's how I learn. I have a 2" binder [just moved up from 1"] and I keep all kind of info in there; watering, fertilizer, potting mixes, tips, AND a page with photo of each plant. I'm obcessive like MONK.
nice iris
Hope you feel better soon, Mary. Beautiful blossom in 6140570, MortsWife
Soooo. pretty!!
Where is Sally? it's odd for her to not be here, or any of the threads that I can tell, for more than a day.
Weather today. Perfect. about 47 deg. but, a fair combination of sun and clouds. Couldn't ask for more this time of year. Although, I think that a few more of my established hellebores had flower buds go mushy after the snow friday night/sat. morning. This is not good.
Great pick of a plant there Tilly, as well as a great pic!!
I'm here, been busy and keep falling asleep on the couch. Slept really well last night. I was working our Orchid table at the Asian Celebration. It was fun, talked to a lot of people about Orchids, but it was really loud!! Wears on you after a while. Music and singing, lots of drums, lion dancers, etc. Fun to see, just noisy if you're around it too long.
Beautiful day here today too. Did some repotting outside. And potted up some African Violets I picked up at Gray's Nursery yesterday. Yeah, they had some mini's in.
We're supposed to be dry for the rest of the week, if this keeps up I'll to start watering. LOL
That's what I was thinking Sally. The newly planted stuff has such good drainage, at the moment, that I might actually have to water :-o Glad that you had a good weekend!
Goldfinch is great Tilly!! I think that you've got the close-ups mastered!!!
Will do! Love those little birds.
Tills.....great close up.

Weather has been nice except for raining out our ride yesterday....oh darn...:)
But the good news is Mom is doing absolutely wonderful!!!! She has gone to IBP instead of the Percocet....she is back doing things around the house with no walker and is just getting back to her old self!!!! It is very good that she decided not to take the percocet last night...on of the little pipes that takes water up to the toilet tank corroded through last night...she heard the water dripping and got it the valve shut off before it flooded the entire work room!!
Maybe we will get back to normal now!!
Wahoo!!! Great news Trisha!
definitely great news!!
I think she has even surprised herself !
Now if you can just keep her in check until she's completely healed.LOL
Great news, Trisha, about your mom. Mine was a little uptight on Sunday when we left for an overnight at the shore. My brother came to stay and his daughter came down also to spend the day. Mom made out fine, but she always seems to worry when we go away, but it is something I NEED to do to help me help her. Can hardly wait til it warms up enough to stay outside for more than a bit at a time. Current temp is 32.
Trisha so great that your mom is on the mend! Tell her hello and do not over do it! I bet she is feeling happy that she is getting better.
Jan everyone deserves some time to refresh - I wish I had done more of that in the past. Good for you.
Lovely here today. Sunshine and 48 degrees.
We got all the way to 54 deg today. Felt like spring. But it's going to cool down again. We did end up getting some rain last night, so I won't have to water.
It's hard for me to get away, but I do take time for me. Knitting with a few neighbors for a couple of hours on Tuesdays and my tatting class twice a month. Plus the orchid society once a month. Biggest refresher for me is digging in the dirt though. Instant gratification sometimes, anticipation other times. Take out the boom box, put on some soft jazz and dig away. I need Spring!!! LOL

I second Sally's weather. It was great.
Jan, I agree with your thoughts about getting away, for yourself, then it's better for others as well.
Thanks for the nice thoughts. I, too, am anxious to get out in the dirt. This year has been really cold. Currently 35 and I think we will just get rain from the system coming in today, but farther north will be getting MORE snow.
I'm glad someone is getting sun! The forecast for today looks good so maybe.......
We are getting some sun today.....at least the Dog thinks we need to get out for awhile....maybe walk the Long Loop today!
Mom is still doing very well...she did overdo a bit yesterday and had to take a pain pill last night....but she has agreed to put her feet up and read a book today.
The first one is berginia, the second is Lamb's ear, and the third, honeysuckle? My guesses!
It is beautiful here today. Dumped all my garbage cans full of yard waste into my trunk and put in all the broken off branches I had collected and went in to the recycle in Shelton. Cost 2$. Whoopee! Saw my first bee today also. The Varied Thrush have poked around my yard so much they have lifted all the moss, so now all I have to do is rake it up.
I have crocus, hyacinth, daffodils coming up. Everything is getting new growth. Maybe we will have an early spring? Always an optimist.
Patricia - you mean the second one is bergenia, right? The first is a yellow flower, probably a bulb - an anemone, maybe?
I think the last one is Derwentia - Digger's Speedwell.
The first one is a crocus if I remember correctly what I stuck in the ground there! The others were planted before I bought the house. I can't find Derwentia or Digger's Speedwell in A-Z. Thanks for the id for the lamb's ears & the berginia. Now I know what to expect from them. The last one I don't think is honeysuckle - looks nothing like any of the A-Z pics.
Great plants there Portland! The last one has the opposite leaves like some honeysuckles - our native in fact. But, I don't think that one is a honeysuckle. I think that diggers speedwell has yet another common name that I can't think of at the moment.
How exciting, for you to discover all these goodies!!
I recognized the crocus and the lamb's ear.
I think Derwentia too. If you get blue flowers I'd say it is for sure.
