Hi,
recently a stem broke off my sweet potato I have growing in my house. I put the vine in water and it has grown roots. Is it possible to plant the vine roots in soil? What would be the best way to go about it and have it survive? I have a really large pot planter in my house and I planned to plant it in that pot. I figure it is too cold to attempt putting it outside. If I plant it in the large pot I have in the house could I grow another sweet potato from it, inside my house?
Thank you for any help! :o)
Sweet potato stem rooting
Yes to all. Commercial sweet potatoes, after all, grow in fields (in soil), not in water. They will survive in water, but thrive in soil.
You could take quite a few cuttings, if there's enough there, to root and have more plants. I root all of my sweet potatoe slips (that have grown on a sweet potatoe in water) for garden planting, it just takes quite awhile.
