Not exactly Garden talk but pretend you're outside

I can't stand the guy, but is he good for something, finally? Hope he is no DGer's father/husband/son, cause I REALLY can't stand him & would hate to cause anybody any pain w/ my feelings about him.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Hard selling just isn't appealing to me but since I don't watch much TV I can manage to avoid him and 99% of his pitches.

Even when I hear one of the commercials with the repeated phone numbers I have to shut it off or I'll go mad. Snow is bad enough without these commercials.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I just found this thread on Twitter. LOL

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I dont' know if it's the same in your town, but I'm noticing that our movie theaters are now showing ads for TV shows and less future movie trailers. Are you kidding me???? I left home to escape the TV ads, but they're following me to the movies.

The day I see this guy peddling his stuff at the movies, I will stop going!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I have never seen him before. I must not watch what you do. Last week at the movies they held us captive for 45 minutes from the time the movie was listed to start till it actually did.

It is like when you call somewhere because you need to and they go thru a taped advertisement of all their services before you can talk to someone. Makes me nuts. I want to hang up in protest but they have me stuck for I need whatever I called for. Comcast does that. It should be illegal to do that.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I'd send you a DVD of this guy, but I am so sure you'd hate me afterwards, I can't risk that, lol.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I could never hate you, Nery! But I would never catch your tape either. LOL

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

hate this guy, I hit mute when he comes on!

You're on twitter Kell? Punched in your full name, definitely not you.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am a twitter, Sue. LOL. I just became aware of it last night. http://twitter.com/dgdave
I saw this thread on that link. So you joined it? Just to follow Daves? So my namesake does not have PINK hair? You sound so sure. LOL. My evil twin must belong.

So what shows do you all see this guy? Have any of you ever bought anything from a TV commerical? I sure haven't.

Hey Sue, I bought a 36 inch rose yesterday and not one on my short list. Broke my promise to myself, again. I just could not resist. HD has such fat trees with so many grafts and so many buds. I got sucked in. And for only $20. I see them go for up to $46. I just love bareroots. So much promise in those stubs. And reward is but a few months away.

No, I am on with another group, local geocaching. Severeal regulars keep it going at too fast of a pace for me though, i only pop in occasionally.
That Twitter thread looks so different, the one I post on, everyone has an icon picture next to their name and their name is highlighted as a clickable link in blue so you reply to them directly. Wonder if that's just a setting that the originator has to set up. The DG one is hard to see who wrote what as it's all the same color and the written post.

Ok Kell, I knew since you were visiting the Rose forums again that you were headed toward another purchase! Remember I have said that too, and I am slowly slipping, actually looking a a couple more but I need to take a couple out before I add more, need to get that count down.
Kell,l just do a search on there with your name, only one popped up and there was facial hair involved, didn't look like you at all LOL

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

wowzers!!! which rose is it? can tell us who the grower is? If from TX, then there might be a chance that I can find something that wonderful in my neck of the woods. If grower is from CA or some other western state, then I'd be out of luck.

That horrid guy is not a TV actor, he's an infomercial pitchman. But, never mind, if you don't know him, you don't need to know him.

RE: buying from informercial yes & no. I bought the Debbie Myers veggie bags cause I saw them in an informercial, but I actually bought them on Ebay, much cheaper. Our BB&B now has a whole aisle of "as seen on TV" stuff, so if I wanted something I saw on TV, I'd go there.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Nery, I will look in a few for you. Might be Armstrong but the bags were red not like the Armstrongs sold at OSH so maybe not. So many of the bareroots this year are so beautiful and strong looking. So few choices though at HD or OSH compared to last year and years past. And no DAs! I wonder why. I got it at HD, what does your HD carry? Here all their trees looked so fat and happy. The trunk on this one was so fat, I was shocked! I do not even remember the name, it was a new one. Similar in color to the ones we like, Sue.

I am so desperate for a few DAs for some reason. I have my eye on 2 tree roses http://www.davidaustinroses.com/american/showrose.asp?showr=4768 and Kassia agrees with me on this one http://www.davidaustinroses.com/american/showrose.asp?showr=4269

I also need a orange climber. Maybe one of you can tell me which you think would have BIG blooms of bold orange or orange blend is better and a good repeater. I had a huge crush on Leander thanks to Sue's pics of it but then read the blooms are small. So maybe Crown Princess Margareta is better? I am going to pair it with a very dark raspberry pink climber. LOL Nery. Gaud city. Have any of you seen Compassion? Which one is best do you think?
http://www.davidaustinroses.com/american/searchlist.asp Shoot I can't get this link to work. If you go to http://www.davidaustinroses.com/american/Search.asp?Theme= and check climbers andthe color apricot, orange etc it will take you there.

Oh Nery, I saw those green bags on TV. Do they work? I recently saw them for sale at a store too. I lied, I bought those sunglasses that were on TV ad nauseam. I got them at Walgreens on their TV aisle. I had been buying similar ones at Kaiser for $50 a pair and I go thru about 6 a year if not more. They were killing me. I loved the ones on TV and they were just $10. I am on my last one and I bought 10 pairs in summer when I found them. They are ugly but they totally cover your eyes from the top an even the sides thus protecting them from the sun.

Sue, you haven't seen me in awhile. I stopped shaving. LOL We need to have lunch soon and a nursery hop. Though I went for one with Patricia the other day and we found nothing! Well I found the rose and also huge cinerarias at Armstrongs. They were so beautiful! But not much else to capture my mind and heart.

PS Sue. I always end up on the Rose Forum during bareroot time for years now. For some reason bareroots call to me more than blooming ones do. It is magic how they transform in spring. And all is possible it seems before they bloom. Later in the year, so many other kinds of plants compete for my attention. Actually their colors do. Hard to settle on just one.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

kell, agree w/ you re:bareroots

veggie bags, yes they work but I'm glad I paid $10/20 rather than $20/20 which was the price when they first came out. I use them primarily to keep greens for my bunny Newman nice and crisp. He is such an easy pet, the least I can do is provide nice greens for him. I am trying hard to eat whatever veggies I buy rather than letting them rot, bags or no bags.

The lady hamilton is gorgeous. I will have to google DA tree roses. Somehow I have a vision of a tree w/ down-nodding blooms, no?

I have Cl. New Year, very mannerly and very subtle peach. Seedpicker found this for me, I suspect she thought I needed it to tame my gaudy ways, lol. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/208965/

Crown Princess Margareta is a beauty and I am considering it but I want to see it in person first. Comments on HMF say the blooms are more like 3"
This is the Austin I want, Summer Song: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pics.php?l=2.41087&nr=99902 Hortico has it but I really would like to see it in person too.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Be still my orange heart. http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pics.php?l=2.41087&nr=104784

Wonder why it is not sold more though since it is just from 2005?

That is like Molineux. The blooms are so small I was so disappointed. I bought it as a tree rose diirect from DA. I bought 4 tree roses from them. 1 died immediately and the other 3 did not live up to their photos at all. http://www.davidaustinroses.com/american/showrose.asp?showr=5967

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Summer Song is not even on the DA website. That is odd. I see it has an excellent rating on HMF but sure odd DA does not offer it.
http://www.davidaustinroses.com/american/searchlist.asp

Have you ever seen Evelyn or Port Sunlight?

Nery, I hope no hanging down blooms. The 3 I have do not nod. But they are not big blooms either.

I miss Taylor. She is so busy with all her dogs I guess still. That rose is pretty but too subtle for me. LOL. I want riotous SPLASH! As if you didn't know. LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Look! It is on the English DA site. http://www.davidaustinroses.com/english/showrose.asp?showr=4532 Maybe it is that we Americans are not good enough for it! LOL

Hey Nery, we so need a rose infomercial!!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I have Molineux, it's a very subtle beauty, I've seen it a rich yellow and other times very pale with a touch of apricot but I am undecided yet if it's a keeper so far, the blooms seemed to shatter pretty quickly. I got it 1/2 price at Regan's last year. So far it is a healthy looking bush though.

Are yours small blooms? Mine are more packed with petals. Very dense.

I pruned lots of roses today. I hate pruning roses. I do not know how I can stand there pruning and think forget roses, all this pruning is for the birds and the next thought I have is where can I stick more tree roses in. LOL. It would not be so bad if they did not have thorns. I am covered in thorn bites.

Hey Sue, look at this echeveria. I am in love.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am going to pot it with this one. I just have to decide on the color pot.

Love that echie! I have that last one too, just looked but don't have it in my journal here so I'll have to go out and check the tag. It's in a pot, not even in a protected area and looked dead but I can see tiny new growth. I've got lots of succulents that are going into the ground this year along bed edges, I am just amazed at how well the other ones already in the ground did through the cold.

My Molineux gets the fuller blooms too, that was just an odd one.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am definitely on a echeveria rant. I want one of each! 2 of some. Potfuls of others.

I can't believe how many sedums I have tossed thinking I killed them. I had no clue some die back only to regrow. I grabbed this a few weeks ago for my toss pile and later went to do it and meanwhile it was pumping out new growth and is so cute I might add. Thank goodness I waited!

Do you believe how gorgeous today was? I had the best day!
