fancy - OMG and you went outside!!! Dear girl...next time you stay indoors and lock them and keep your phone near by. Scary isn't even the word....that is terrible.....I am glad you are safe.....I would hate to go through something like that!
What's Happening in YOUR Neighborhood # 13
If I had heard the gunshots I doubt I would have gone out but I could just hear the heli circling!
AKKK ... I can see maybe peekin out the windows with the lights off .. but .. you're a brave woman to have ventured outside ..
Firearms discharge in this area occasionally .. but it has to do with wildlife though .. bears mostly.
I sometimes wonder about the advent of these 'gangs' .. but .. I try not to dwell on it too much .. I feel that they thrive on the notoriety .. the media feeds on it and it becomes a viscious circle. I often wonder if the perpetrators of these heinous acts are not 'holed up' somewhere watching the local news to see how 'SCARY' they were .. and what people are doing or saying about them .. their '15 minutes of fame' ( or infamy) .. S A D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everso glad you're OK Carol.
This has been a weird weather day .. temps are so nice .. able to walk out the door and take in a DEEP breath of fresh air .. however .. of a sudden .. the wind howls out of the north and makes the dampness pervade your bones ..
Took Lilly on a few walks .. but she is SUCH a terrier .. most of her time is spent sniffing and listening .. not too conducive to a 'regular ' kinda walk .. have NO idea how the lady up the road who has Lilly's brother Finnegan and cousin Maggie does her 2 mile walk with the 2 of them each day .. I kinda think Lilly is a bit SPOILED .. YA think LoL
Anyway .. she gets her walks .. several times a day .. and I think that's an OK deal .. for both HER and ME ^_^
Cooking SUNFISH from Wisconsin for supper .. best get on with it ..
Ciao

For the last couple of days I've been busy scanning dozens of pictures covering 20 years at the Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard. We will eventually put them together in a PPT for our AGM at the end of April - celebrating 20 years of the volunteers who have made the program happen (we can't really celebrate a food bank needing to be around 20 years after it opened).
In order that some of the other long-time volunteers can help ID pictures and the people in them, I've put them up temporarily on Smugmug. The gallery is a private one - won't show in a search, but if any of you are interested in seeing what we do (there are a lot of parties), you'll find it at http://violaann.smugmug.com/gallery/7293768_6vQwo#469033263_bCkWw
You'll need a password to enter it - 1989.
Ann
Great job with the pics Ann .. OOOOOooooooo .. and isn't it all about the 'eye glasses' back in 1989 .. !!
Good luck with ferreting out the names of the people attending the grand opening .. I'm sure their identities will come.
We must be nearing a full moon, or, it IS already .. the snow sure was bright out there this morning, and Smokey is wearing his 'BAD CAT HAT' this morning .. very mischevious !!
The Sunfish were delish ..NO BONES !!
Enjoy your Sunday

Heres a strange little follow up to our shooting incident on Friday evening. Two hours later a guy shows up at hospital with gunshot wounds.( presumably related to the shooting near me)
On Saturday night same man walks into a Macs store ( not near here) and says he's been shot. ( again) Serious but not life threatening. Refusing to cooperate with investigators!
curiouser and curiouser..............
A lovely' warm' weekend here - temps a few degrees above freezing. I have to 'work' at Lougheed House this afternoon- I am mentoring a new interpretor - trying to convince my self to get dressed and take dogs to off leash!
Morning, wow Carol, must agree with the others...best you stay inside..how odd..so the police have him in custody???
Wonderful weekend away with mom..best part of travelling with moms is you are still their young one and you get to come home with treats..I ended up with several garden art pieces and did get to meet Debbie (DebbieDaisy) so thrilled with my weekend..
Can't talk long, have to go in search of the Westminster Dog show, have tried to find a live feed but haven't been successful as yet..know some of it will be shown this evening...
going to check some of the links you all gave me...
Sunshine day here...think gardening..lol
It is on Animal Planet this evening - somebody from Toronto area said it was on CNBC ( I dont know what that is) but I dont get either of these channels so no dog show for me except I will check out the shelties on the website.
Betty so far as I know the guy is in hospital with police guards - probably not in custody because although he is known to them in both these cases he is the victim!
A lovely sunny weekend here - snow starting to melt and that leaves us with nice shiny ice in the mornings!
Carol the site tells of which channels will have it on tonight..I just thought I could catch it on live feed..perhaps once it's done they post video's..will continue to check..
Wouldn't you think Carol he'd be in custody though, shucks, if you've got bullet wounds there must be a reason why and not for the good...
We had a gentleman 38 shot in Midland last week by police, not much info is being given..some say the man had no weapon but until all the investigation is done, we'll not know...2nd fatal shooting, the other happened over 100 years ago...
JUMPING up and down here..OMG Sharon's Inuk won Best of Breed and will again compete at 8pm ... called Sharon on her cel..she's so excited that he won Best of Breed in the biggest dog show...she says that competition is high and that Inuk just being a pup has little chance of going further...hey, why not dream..if she doesn't we will right?
Her flight is booked to come home tomorrow, imagine the changing of plans if he wins the next category...then it would be Best in Show...
Let's dream together...
Sharon works so hard with these dogs, I'm thrilled she's getting recognition in her breed...

Coming home a winner in his breed...hurrah...
SOOOOOooooooooooooo frustrating .. we have 2 satellite servers and I cannot find the show ..
MAJOR congrats to Sharon Betty .. how awesome for her AND Inuk ...
Surfin along here
~M~
Fabulous for your sister, Betty! I will be watching tonight.
I know, I get a zillion channels..found it, but I have to wait until 9pm because of the time change...drats!
I FOUND IT !!! Came on at 9pm .. and the TERRIERS were being judged . I lasted through their judging and that was it. A Scottish Terrier won .. very nice animal and the judge was absolutely awesome .. first time I have seen a judge sort of 'play' with the dogs .. he whistled for them, and clucked his tongue and made strange noises all to get their attention .. he likes to see their level of alertness.
We are in a MESS in TBay !! It has rained for the last 10 hours and it is SLIPPERY out there .. I won't be going down for the paper until I can fully SEE the lay of the land !!
Lilly turns 'TWO' today .. I'm sure she has NO clue .. but .. we'll spoil her a bit (hahaha as if she isn't already) she will be surprised when she goes out .. !!
Take care all

"M" had freezing rain this morning, took my time coming in...half way here it started to pour..above seasonal temps today and tomorrow then snow again for Thurs./Fri. although they aren't calling for much....
Happy birthday 'Lilly'...
Ann they say the freezing rain is headed your way..best you be careful..
If it keeps raining I'll be able to get a peak at a few of the gardens..pretty bad when that's the highlight of my day...just kidding..heard some birdies this morning...made my heart skip a beat as I know what's coming
Watching the weather channel .. and YES .. Ann you had best take care there in Ottawa ..
I will take SNOW anytime over this stuff.
Glad you made it in Betty and thanks for Lilly's BDay wishes :-) As I said .. when I took her out this morning it was NOT well received .. however .. for the first time since perhaps October .. I heard a HAWK !! Kinda nice to hear it and am thinking the bird feeders are bit less populated today because of it !!
Yes .. the snow is receding slowly .. be kinda neat to have time lapsed photography done to see the results of the rainfall.
Take care all

Watched your sister's lovely American Eskimo, Inuk compete in the Non-Sporting group last night, Betty. Gorgeous Dog! I felt they had a bit of a disadvantage being judged first in the group. The Judge didn't seem to be as diligent or she just seemed to be distracted when she looked at Inuk. You tell your sister, I judged him Best in Group myself. ^_^
I am sure she is proud to have achieved the "Best in Breed". That in itself is quite an accomplishment! Way to go Inuk!
Thank you Don, and yes, thought it was odd, they said who the owners were for all dogs, bits of info on the breed...American Eskimo dogs have just been accepted into category for competing, perhaps that is why...some of those dogs were mighty fine looking though...hard to compete with that type of breed...Sharon is thrilled though, goes on Inuk's papers for breeding purposes..
How much longer Don do you and DW spend down there...you'll soon be getting homesick...
"M" I heard birdies this morning as well..know the groundhog said 6 more weeks but he could be wrong couldn't he..just like weatherman, not always on target...
Greg is complaining, here he had a few days to go snowmobiling and it's raining..not a happy camper...
Last I looked, the freezing rain hadn't yet materialized. Was out to early aquafit. Came home for breakfast and taught a student. Had planned to meet with a new ringer at the church, but the timing isn't good for her. Now I have to get off the computer because I need to start getting a couple hours of viola practice in each day. The concert on the 23rd has Sorcerer's Apprentice which I've played 3 times before but which I think ranks right up there as one of the MOST difficult pieces ever. Also has La Mer and Pacific 231, neither of which are easy - and a couple of shorter pieces for violin and orchestra. You might not hear much from me in the next couple of weeks.
Ann
You are always sooo busy Ann..glad the ice storm will miss you...do you ever slow down, is there a period in your life that affords you more time...my grandma always said 'it's a long time dead so fill your life with things that make you happy....'
Grammas are ALWAYS so smart .. hope my grands think so ^_^
I should have stayed up to watch your sisters dog Betty .. but .. I know the WHOLE show will be re broadcast down the road ..
Judges are usually chosen WELL in advance of the show (2 years) .. which is why I couldn't understand why a few of the dogs in the 'Terrier class' were disqualified due to the Judge having a conflict of interest with the handler, did anyone else see that ? Had I been the handler and/or owner of a dog who made it that far into the competition only to be disqualified I would be so distraught !!! All that work.
Hope the bad weather passes you by Ann and enjoy the concert ..
We're still 'dripping' here .. but less than this morning ...
~M~
"M" I didn't understand that part either..2 dogs were disqualified, why wouldn't they have a 2nd judge for this purpose..why wouldn't the owner/trainer not know this would happen...sad really ...
So bored here today, another 1hr 45 min. and can't find anything to do..best I go looking for a work project to bring in tomorrow...
Thought I'd share a photo taken of Greg and his family...
I was a little disappointed in the Terrier disqualifications too. Sure doesn't seem fair for the owners. I wonder why they couldn't have had another handler come in and show the dog. Maybe that's just to difficult for the dog; I don't know.
LOL, DH and I will be home next month sometime, Betty. I always miss home, but not the winter weather.
The judges names would have been on the premium list so the handler/owners should have known there would be a conflict and not entered the dog IMHO!
Incidentally - I am not absolutely sure I am right - but I think anybody can enter their dog in this show -in other words they dont have to work their way up to qualify. Although of course one would be wasting a lot of money if you entered a dog who didnt have a lot of experience in shows and lots of wins under their belt!
What I don't understand is, what would a "conflict of interest" be?
Betty
Congratulations to Sharon and Inuk for a fabulous showing! She probably will be able to fly home with out the plane! I guess Inuk shuk the doggie world LOL.
Take care with all that ice out east. We had some a while ago and we are still chipping it away. Boy it lasts for ever. Today we have sun and I hope a small melt will occur.
I'll have to ask Sharon about qualifications..I thought she had a list a mile long that her dog needed before being able to qualify..probably wrong..because Sharon organizes all the main shows and brings in judges I'll ask her why..she must have an idea...
Thanks Annabell..rained best partof the morning so all the ice is gone..easy ride home...
Don .. I always thought a conflict of interest would be that perhaps the judge knew the handler/worked with the handler/had been in business with the judge (in the past) .. stuff like that .. no clue .. mayhaps I'll post the question on the pet forum and see what happens.
We'll all be smarter than a tree full of Owls soon ^_^
GREAT pics Betty :-)
~M~
Betty I was checking on the website - there are a list of invited dogs who get first chance and then there are BOB/Variety dogs ( whatever that means!) who can apply to enter. The premium list is no longer up so I cannot see the detail but it would be interesting to know - one of those trivia facts to tuck in the back of ones mind to be shown in public when one wishes to amaze ones audience with the depth of ones knowledge! LOL!
( Ask me about the time I was asked how you die when you are hung! because 'Carol will know'! - I read a lot!)
Another nice day here although a bit of a snowstorm passed thru this monring just as I was setting out with the dogs - Bailey having a regular visit with the chiropractor. We stopped at one of my favorite greenhouses on the way home just to wander around. Bought a couple of Hoyas and a couple of primroses. The dogs were of course admired by all!
Our local gunshot victim is still in the papers because he is refusing to cooperate with police. I think they reckon somebody will attempt to kill him again since they have tried twice and an innocent bystander will get hurt.
I should not have done it but I just made a batch of oatmeal/raisin cookies!
Carol, you are too funny..how does one die when they are hung? lol oatmeal and raisin cookies..will you share...
Can feel temps dropping but they are calling for 6 degrees tomorrow..spring has arrived..for today at least..
Quite a lot of snow has melted over the past few days..the walkway I shovel for Sailor to walk along is snow free..animals will be excited to get outside..been a long winter for them..
Break your neck! ( if it is done properly - if not you suffocate) The incident was at work many years ago - I walked into the tech room to find an intense discussion going on and somebody said - here's Carol ask her she'll know!
Only reason I knew was cause I read it in some murder mystery!
Oatmeal cookie recipe, to follow.
I have a strange reaction to snowstorms since I met Carol. Most people think about cold and road conditions. I always think 'I wonder what Carol is baking?" LOL
LOL!!!
LOL Les! Actually I was out driving in that.
Sorry I forgot to let you know I was baking!

Will look to see what ingredients I have and make some for the weekend...sounds yummy..thanks for sharing...
The heat was turned down slightly last night and it's rather cool in the house this a.m. - not raining as yet, but calling for it..
Best I get myself ready and off to work..
Talk later..
Waving to everyone..
OK just talked to Sharon..she said that in order to compete you must have American Kennel status...Your dogs must have won 'x' amount of points .. her dog has Canadian/American/United status...
She was telling me that Mr Green who did the Terrier judging two years ago was her handler..she said that he wasn't a judge at that time..he owns a business and has 10 employees who train and handle dogs..the 2 that were sent off because of 'conflict of interest' was because they both were handled by his trainers...either employed now or were employed and also he himself might have handled one of the dogs...I asked why would anyone compete then knowing he was the Judge..she said that many know their dogs won't win the 'Show Dog of the year' award but as with her, having Best of Breed is valuable for breeding purposes...
