For those of you unfamiliar, these birds seem about the size of a goldfinch. Here's one next to a house sparrow.

Good to see that all three were back today. (Right now Burn is laughing at me because she has a zillion of these birds).

Ah Mrs. Ed...how cool is that!! Great shots of such sweet little birds. I have almost gone blind this morning looking for our lonely one Redpoll but have not seen it yet. There are so many birds that it is hard to watch all the feeders. I am watching and hoping though and will faint if more than one shows up!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Ha. Well last year I only had one at a time, so I'm surprised at the numbers today. I had a 5th show up (a male), but no pix yet, stay tuned. *fingers crossed*

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Show off!!! LOL! I'm happy for you Marna but green with envy!!

Here is a pic from a few days ago showing the female Purple Finches ganging up on the poor little one!

awww, to cute! I haven't seen a purple finch in weeks if it makes you happy. and certainly haven't seen any of your brush pile cuties.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I never really expected to see a Redpoll this far south so I should not complain!! :0)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

well keep an eye out. this was the first sighting I had, a month later than last year.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Look who just showed up! Now I am happy and can get on with my life! LOL!

Nice ones guys! I would love to see one!

Beautiful pictures folks. The only way I will get to see Redpolls is on the Forum

They are really cute!

Wow, Mrs Ed and Rose, I can understand why you've been hanging out to see these utterly gorgeous little birds. Burn must have relented and released some. Fantastic images.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

okay that's it (foot stomping here!!!)... WHERE"S MY REDPOLL???? LOL

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Ha..Nanny! I thought I would go nuts (or nuttier) trying to spot ours yesterday! The birds were just flitting all over in anticipation of the 4 inches of snow we got last night! Here is our little guy on eating sunflower hearts with the American Goldfinch. He has so much competition!!

This is a window shot with sleet falling!

As soon as it stops snowing here, I am going to put a thistle sock out closer to the window so I can see it. We are at about 9 inches righ now and still snowing...and the plow trucks don't get to the side streets here any time soon. In the '07 storm it was four days before a plow truck hit my road!

I have tried to find a feeder like that online from Havahart with no luck. I love how deep the openings are.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Wow...you are getting the snow! I am on my way out to clean the snow off and put the feeders back outside...I see the first Cardinal has arrived this morning and looks hungry. Nanny...I did the opposite..I put out more thistle socks and a few extra feeders for just the Finches so the the Redpoll would be able to find a place to eat. I think I just managed to attract more birds and now have more place to look to try and spot the little one! See ya later...heading out the door with broom and snow shovel in hand.....

Marlton, NJ

Hi Rose, What type of mix is in that feeder? Nice pic!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

NINE INCHES? OMG. ((hug))

Well nothing brings the birds to the feeders like lots of snow! Sending redpoll Karma your way!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Definitely sending Redpoll Karma to Nanny! We know it works...lol! Nanny, I've only seen that feeder at one place and that is a local farm supply. They marked them down and I like it so well for the smaller birds I'm going to get another one. They are easy to clean so that is a real plus and the larger birds can't use them.

Pelle...Most of the feed is sunflower hearts I get at the farm store in our area. It looks like I also dumped a tad of something else in there, probably emptied out a sack of mixed seed.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

I just love all these pictures. I didn't realize they were so small until I saw the photo with a Sparrow. I just love that lighter underside and the light blush of pink on some of them. My Sibley book says they don't fly my way, so I'll just have to enjoy all your beautiful photos.

Great shots Mrs. Ed!

I love those little redpolls. Too bad I don't think I'll get any up here in the city. Even the HOSP's have temporarily abandoned us.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks Liam! I bet you still have the starlings though!!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

It is done snowing here...YEAH!!!! Ended up with about a foot or a bit more. Put the sock out. So we will see if that redpoll karma works!

The fact that the bigs birds can't use it is what appealed to me about that feeder... I will keep looking.

Marlton, NJ

Done snowing here too but it's been sleeting for quite a while.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

how much did you get, Pell?

Marlton, NJ

Probably no more than 3 inches. I haven't looked at the official numbers yet.

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

Hey guys, send some Redpolls my way.

They are absolutely adorable. Great pictures Mrs. Ed.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Those last two shots are so adorable Mrs. Ed! I saw my little guy briefly yesterday and am anxiously awaiting his return today and hope he brings some of his buddies with him! LOL!
