Hi, if you are new to Daves, please follow this link for a newbie packet of free seeds. Lots of "oldies" have gotten together and have gathered up seeds to send newbies 10 to 15 packets of seeds. When we joined Daves people were good to us and we'd like to repay the generousity. Pay it forward as it were.
This will take you to the instructions. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/932800/
SEEDS FOR NEWBIES
Hi Lorraine,
I read through your thread and was truly impressed with your generosity. You'll find an envy from me shortly.
A question: I've ordered a lot of catalogue seeds and am certain to have some leftover that I'd be happy to forward on. Do you want those even the packets have been opened, or are you really only looking for those that were self-harvested?
Thanks,
Debi
Any seeds are fine and thank you for offering.!!! If we only hadself harvested ones, we'd not have as many. lol Maybe before long you'll find you don't have to buy many seeds. I've found that once I found friends here I hardly have to buy any anymore. You will truly find dthe most generous people you have ever met right here.
Be looking for your envy. I'm having a ball doing this, so I think I am harvesting all the benefits, or most of them anyway.
I am not sure if this is the right area to post this if not I anm sorry.
I am just starting out a garden this year it has been many years sence I have had one. I have a lager household of 11 that we have to feed, and money is really tight I can not offord to pay for memberships but would greatly appriciate any seeds I can get to help get our garden going.
Thanks in Advance,
Kathy
Hello, I too am very new, just signed up today. How much is membership? What does membership mean?
I have many questions and I am enjoying going through and reading other's questions and the answers they get. I have found some helpful already.
Thanks to everyone.
Wachovec...........Membership is twenty bucks a year to support Dave and his small staff that administer this site. There are few sites that make it through a year without a major ugly situation popping up. I have been here two years and have seen no ugly....period. I contribute a lot of "yadda yadda" as my give back for the interesting conversation I get involved in. I'm nearly 74 and still learn something new every now and again.....I'm an old dog learning a few new tricks. Ruff Ruff. LOL
Hey...........I've come to learn and see a few giant pumpkins in competition in your home town. Nice area. Nice folks growing the big pumpkin too.
Welcome to Daves! You can also buy a 2 month subscription for $5 if you're not sure if you want to commit to a whole year. To check out some of what you're missing out on if you don't have a subscription, click on the "communities" tab at the top of the page and then click on the link to the discussion forums. All the forums that have red asterisks next to them are for subscribers only, and ones that don't have a red asterisk are open to everyone.
Thanks for all your helpfull information. I am very green at all this and will need much help.
Welcome to Dave's, wachovec!
If you decide to try a membership, be sure to check out the Ohio River Valley Gardening forum (it's under the heading of US Regional Gardening Forums).
As a rule, I don't pay for websites but I have to say that Dave's is a good investment. It's about the same price to subscribe as many magazines and I get a lot more enjoyment. Plus, with a subscription, I can opt for no ads.
Whether someone becomes a paid subscriber or not, there's so much here. And the people really are great.
wachov, Welcome from me too. There are so many differant forums to pick, of intrest to watch. Every flower imaginable, every part of the country. Even one for pets and cooking and sewing. So have fun and enjoy.
I normally do not pay for sites either but found this site to be well worth it. This is my third year of paying. The price remains reasonable IMO.

After lurking in the Beginner Veggie forum for a while, I finally decided to buy the membership. There are some really knowledgable folks on here and I can't wait to read all the info here (and occasionally pick your brain as well - lol). Thanks for this awesome resource!! Kelly

Thanks, velnita!! I'm overwhelmed with all the great information here - lol!! Kelly

I have joined, and found myself spending the entire evening exploring. Time flys when visiting with you all.
YAY, wachovec! Yes, there's a lot here to explore. I can still easily spend hours on here. Be sure to check out the Ohio River Valley Gardening forum (it's under the heading of US Regional Gardening Forums).
Right now, I'm enjoying the Bulbs forum, the Peony forum and the Roses forum. I love seeing people's blooms. So pretty.

You are right - there is a lot to explore here^_^
I would suggest posting your flower questions maybe on the Beginner Flower Forum:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/b_flowers/all/
Have fun looking around. While you're here on the free seeds for newbies, check out how to send Robin an envelope for some free seeds. The folks here at Dave's are very generous with their seeds as well as their knowledge.
Kelly
Thank you Kelly
Welcome Jean, Looks like you're getting a good start by your pictures.
Have fun here. When i first joined I posted everywhere and of course did'nt remember where all i'd been. The welcome page is a big winner for those of us that gets lost.
