Went to Portland Nursery today and got 5 Hellebors - 3 Lenten Rose, a Gold Bullion, and a Kingston Cardinal. Right now they are on my front porch but I shall put them in the ground eventually. They are beautiful.
It was a pretty nice day here but now it's very cold. Tomorrow should be nice again!
Weird Weather of '09!! ....... #3
Pics please, thank you
Wow I love it thistle!
that's a beauty thistle!! you might try smelling it a different times during the day. I think that matters. I'm really surprised though that it doesn't seem to have a fragrance. Either way, it's pretty!
I am going to have to see about Witch Hazel.....sounds great....and I have heard the smell is great too......beautiful pictures!
Loved our weather today.....widh I would have had more time to enjoy it:(
Oh Rachael!!! She doesn't know if you will remember her but Judy (Seedtosser) asked me to say a big hello and give you a hug for her! Couldn't figure out what Football has to do with Gardening and Crafting so we kept each other company during the game yesterday^_^
Linda - that's beautiful. And in exactly the right spot. Is that your house? Lovely details around the windows.
Portland - isn't it funny how people's addictions can rub off? But you will so love to watch those beauties next year and remember back to this one, I think. We do enable on another so.
Mary - were you talking to me about teenagers and Jessie's song? Or another Katie?
Kathy I believe I have the resident teenagers in question! (Carex & Stipa)
Jesse's song is a bearded Iris.
Tils - I work on Feb 16th, so cannot go, unless i take the day off. Not sure about my workload & whether there will be clients in town. I will check on this.
Whew - it was in code. I feel better. Thought I had missed a whole thread or something.
Hope you can go on the 16th!!!
Trisha, of course I remember Judy. I have a lovely christmas ornament from her, please send her a big hug from me :0)
Warm here today it was at least 55, back down to 32 right now. Glad to see so much of the sun. Took this pic this morning when I took mom her paper. This cat is the best thing for her. They stay like this for an hour or so every morning. Patches crawls into her lap, then talks to her until she falls asleep. Haven't the foggiest idea what she says, but it sure lasts a long time. LOL Nothing to do with the weather, just cute.
Very cute Sally! Great picture too. It's good to be able to place a face with "mom" now.
Portland and Jan, thanks about the Wh's.
Jan, I'm glad that you're finally getting some decent weather over there. You're long overdue! Even if it is short lived.
Portland, I'm soooooo jealous about the hellebores!! that sounds fantastic. I know that your going to love each and every one of them. Good luck with the overload and A-Z! It's a strange and mysterious medical condition that take a very long time to overcome! lol
Currently 34 and snowing, but very lightly. Again, we are at the lowest point of the system that is coming through. We're in the 1 - 3" range.
Say 'Good morning' to your mom, Sally. Pets are wonderful things. Our youngest and his GF came over yesterday afternoon to play cards with mom. She brought her dog. She is a cutie! She jumped up on mom's lap. Wish we still had our lab. He would sit at her feet and keep her company while I worked.
Sally the pic of your Mom is wonderful. She has a very bright and kind face, and the cat....well, the cat is perfect.
Sunny here already and should stay that way today - supposed to get to 50. I think I will do a clean-up of little branches & twigs that are strewn about the yard after all the wind. CNN had footage of London with a lot more snow then they are accustomed to. Even the buses were not running. I hope Laurie is ok.
Last night I watched a documentary from Netflix that I highly recommend. "Young at Heart" - premiered at Sundance in 2008. It's about a group of Massachusetts senior citizens (80s & 90s) who have a chorus. And this chorus is not the normal chorus you would imagine. They do hard rock & roll - like "I Feel Good". It is both uplifting and bittersweet and I loved it!
Thistle I love your WH, your house and the wonderful color it's painter.
Love the picture of your mom Sally.
Zhinu, I haven't read Charles De Lint. I looked him up on Amazon. Whow, what would you suggest to begin reading his books. I like Terry Brooks, Terry Goodkind, Anne Mccaffrey, David Eddings, CL Wilson, RL Salvatore(love Drizzt), to name a few.
What a heart warming Photo of your mom and the cat. That is clearly a very special relationship.
Gorgeous Witch hazel, Thistle! I have nothing in bloom at my house right now, so it is nice to live vicariously through other people's gardens.
Sorry I keep getting the spelling mix up, on you two.
Katye, would love to see you again, if you can't make thats fine, no biggie. Being on the early shift got me excited, let me know your sch.
Will get back to you.
Tilly, I always have to check and double check who it is i'm really talking to!! Good thing they get along. :-p
LOL off to bed, 3:30 am comes to to soon.
Have a good night All
Hugs
I know what you mean Tilly. That's what time I had to get up this morning. Good night!
From all that pounding . . .
lol... that makes perfect sense now!!
I can't imagine how you guys get up at 3:30 am. I hope you don't have to do that on the weekends!
That was my first thought too. Too much pounding. What a great shot!
Thanks everyone. Yep, mom is a sweet lady, but then I'm prejudiced. Patches is such company for her. She lost her two dogs not long after my dad died and needed something. So I took her to the local shelter, she's never had an inside cat before and was a little nervous about it tearing things up, but no problem. She didn't want me to have to take care of a dog and I don't think she thought a cat would be as much fun. Well.........this cat turns on her Roomba and rides it, she has to keep it covered so she can't get to the button. She turns on the boom box and tries to answer the phone when it rings. But always, every morning, she has her cat nap in mom's lap.
It was absolutely beautiful today. The birds were chirping and the frogs are croaking. Sunny and 54. Still getting down to freezing at night though. One more day, then it's going to start raining again.
Well, we weren't below the snow belt yesterday. We got about 2" of light, fluffy stuff. It is BEAUTIFUL! I can say that cuz I know it won't last that long.
Sometimes a woodpecker comes to the feeder outside mom's room. It adds a splash of color.
What is a Roomba???
Yah, what is a Rhoomba???
Good morning all! I want to share my new babies with you. There's only 26 of them, there was 27 but she didn't make it as she had a broken leg and was so stressed I couldn't get her to eat. She was free but when I called the Hatchery they credited my card for $3.15 anyway. I was pleased and will definitely order from them again. So here ya go!

Gardener they are so adorable! I love chickens, would love to have some here...not that I'd have time to take care of them properly. Maybe someday. Please post photos as they grow.
Thanks ladybuggfan. I love 'em too! Poor DH he can't figure out why we women like chickens so much! LOL! I had to laugh yesterday when I went out to check on them they were in their own little world so much that they didn't know I was there and when I said good morning to them they scattered like a bunch of little mice! They went in every direction you can imagine, the funniest and cutest thing I've seen in a long time! I will definitely post more pics as they grow, in the mean time here's another.^_^
Susan
Sounds like you all found the perfect cat, Sally. I've always been of the opinion that people who don't like cats just haven't met the right cat. Some are so much like dogs - and the more attention they get, the more they give.
That's hilarious about the Roomba. I have a cat who allows me to vacuum right up next to her. Talk about trust. But she will get all "prickly" if I try to hold her at all.
Portland, the Roomba is the disc-shaped robotic vacuum cleaner. They program themselves to be familiar with the space you want them to vacuum and basically do it all without any help from you (well, except for emptying it). Many people swear by them. I guess they have any kinds worked out.
Susan, your little checks are too cute. Funny that we are all mother hens at heart - and where would our grown men be if we weren't? LOL Kris, my neighbors had chickens for years and the hardest part (even in there yard, which is very domesticated) was keeping them safe. The birds of prey somehow would come down and mesmerize them in the coop and then could get them out through the wire-netted window. I'm sure that's what they said. Fortunately, it didn't happen often, probably because of the dog.
You couldn't stop by and visit them without taking home a carton of eggs. Those girls were producers!!
Thank you Katie, these chicks are all pullets (females) except there's 1 that I don't know whether it's a pullet or a cockrel yet or even the breed. All I know is it's a rare exotic chick. They add that as a bonus for ordering 25 chicks (that's the minimum), plus since I ordered 6 Araucanas they included an extra one but unfortunately that's one that died. All of these will be good layers even in the winter, the Black Giants lay better when it's real cold. I have 7 New Hampshire Red, 6 Araucana, 6 Black Giant, 6 Light Brahma and 1? I'm going to have eggs coming out of my ears!!!! LOL!!!
Susan
Just reread my post. I meant you're "chicks" are cute. LOL.
Did you want all pullets? The roosters around hear don't last at any home for long . . . and they do terrible damage to the backs of the hens with their continuous mounting. Just not my favorite creature, really.
Sounds like you have a fun variety. Now to come up with names. I suppose you could start with a famous team (like the Seven Dwarves or something). Or maybe different kinds of objects, like seashells or heavenly bodies or flowers. It's going to be fun!!
I have a request - would those of you with names that are not your first names send a post with your first name, unless of course you don't want to divulge your name? Does that make sense? I can't keep it all straight & I have to make a list. :)))
I think that Patricia (Willowwind) tried this a little while back, so there may be a thread already started for that.
I'm Kathy or Kathleen, but I'll also go by Katie. :-)
That's fine Portland but being brainless in Bend I don't know what your first name is! LOL! So you need to share too!
Katie, Kathy or Kathleen! LOL! Sorry, trying to be funny. I can't possibly come up with that many names and keep them straight! Thanks for the vote of confidence but I'm just not that intelligent! LOL!

Jan here
Susan - that's just the beginning. My middle name is Susan, and my family (and family friends) have called me Susie since I was small.
Never mind the gradeschool, highschool, and sport friends who have called me by my last name over the years.
The up side is that if you meet someone again that you have met years earlier it helps pinpoint exactly where and when you met them.
Let's pick Kathy and go with that. Easier?
