LOL Sally, head-vibrating croaking. Wow! Kaper, maybe a Pacific Tree Frog snuck over to your place. They make some pretty goofy sounds...burping and buzzing are pretty good descriptions for some of them. The last "croaks" I heard earlier this month were like the "land call" found here: http://www.californiaherps.com/frogs/pages/p.regilla.sounds.html
Who let the frogs out?
That was awesome sunnyg and none of them sound like ours. Have to see if I can find one to photo. There in a wetland area right next to our house and not too accessible, but unlike CA right now it is pretty dry.
There's a great photo on that site comparing the California and Pacific tree frogs. Ours (see picture at the top of the thread) looks like a cross! The spots are elongated like the Pacific, but the color is closer to the CA.

The five second advertisement call sounds somewhat like this, but a lot rougher and louder, of course!

I couldn't find any examples of the really weird noises.
The ones by the water sound like the Pacific treefrogs only way higher pitched and greatly multiplied. LOL They've been singing all day.
Kaper, it sounds like you have some confused frogs. They're not quite sure what they are, and not quite sure what they're supposed to sound like. LOL
Very neat, Sally! It finally stopped raining here today, but not a single croak, burp or buzz out of the frogs.
I only heard one today but it was in the green house. I informed my son that he was going to have to catch frogs and toads for me to take pictures of. He thinks it's a sort of interesting project. LOL!
I heard them singing all night last night. They weren't bugging me. I'd much rather listen to the frogs than cars, or heavy machinery.
My camera is getting beat up, but she is ready for action. Tomorrow should be a good day for a photo safari! We'll see what is in the pond out back.

I'm going to try to do that too. Photo safari, I like that.
10:30 and they're still singing, you'd think they'd get tired after a while. They put me to sleep, but they're not right next to the window, so it's not as annoying.
Feel free to use the term, Photo Safari. I stole it from my Dad, Trois, who was a member of DG. He's the reason I joined. Besides they are fun! ^_^
I just went to the back door, and heard one lovelorn frog going RIBBBET! He was very loud! Can't hear him inside 'cause Mom has the tv up way too loud. TV is more annoying than the frog. LOL!

Frogs are in full voice tonight. I hope to find eggs in the pond soon. If the turtle or fish don't eat them first. Got a photo of my turtle friend "Skippy" today. He likes to eat tadpoles too. So I feed him turtle pellets during tadpole season. Skippy is a red eared slider, another thing he likes to eat is water lillies. He is a well fed turtle. LOL!
How about your frogs?
WIB!

I always wanted a turtle, but I don't have room for one here, unfortunately. There's still no frog action in this neck of the woods....
I hear one froggie right now, mid-morning, and they've been singing every night. Must ask Son to catch me some.
Hope they show up soon, for you RedI got Skippy when he was about as big as a half dollar. He used to live inside in a tank, but he outgrew it, so now he has a much better pad (Pun intended) to hang out in. I hope the smaller one that just showed up one day while I was singing to my turtle comes back. They kind of hibernate in the winter.

My frogs are singing big time tonight. It rained all day and clear up just before dark. Maybe they're celebrating the rain, it's been dry for quite a while.
Yeah, right, dry in Oregon. Good one. :-)
It was seriously, our pond was drying up. Filled up half way between yesterday and today. I though I was going to have to water. We needed the rain and it makes it so much warmer.^_^
It was 80 degrees here today! Got the birds outside for a while. Still, I thought it would rain this morning. There were a few drops around noon, then the sun came out.
We only got to 55 or so, but that's warm for us this time of year.
Cloudy and gray today. Rescued three toads? From the pool this morning. Took photos, but haven't been able to get them on the computer yet. Oh and one stinkbug. Intermittent raindrops, not rain, just raindrops. Weird, about 2 minutes of sun all day.

Oh, he's a pretty one. Have you checked out the PNW threads? We've cheering each other up all winter.
I love the first one's elegant accessory!
Oh yeah, I agree with Ima, that's great shot! Your toads are so cute!
Looks like operation desert storm toad to me. ^_^ Great photos!
Z
Yes, the bougainvilla blossom---it looks like a very fancy and exotic hat---just another of your great photos!
Don't know what kind he is, but he's gorgeous!
He is indeed!
I just heard that the seasonal pond where my tadpoles came from is all full now, and there is a major frog party underway over there. I am starting to get worried about my little guys, since I haven't heard anything since early February. Shoot :-(
My guys are in fine form again tonight. Getting louder by the day! The pond got almost full today, we had lots of rain.
I want some little froggies so bad!! I used to buy tadpols for my pond and could never understand why they never became little frogs. No one told me that my turtles thought I was buying good food for them....they were eating them like candy!! lol
I bet you guys don't have little turtles emerging from your gardens this spring like I do. As I have been working in the garden these past weeks, I keep coming across little baby turtles hiding under leaves and plants. Yesterday I saw 2 more emerging from their hole. So far I have counted 7, as I have painted little dots on their shells with nail polish to know who is who. lol
Here are some pics I took yesterday of the last 2 emerging.

Awww...
We can't have everything, I guess. DH wanted a turtle, but your experience saved us that mistake!
Donna, I don't think I could take a step without worrying about stepping on one...don't let anyone in your yard.
That is SO COOL!!
That is the cutest thing!
I love your little turtles! Can't have them up here, they'd freeze.
Our frogs are insane tonight, and we've got snow predicted for tomorrow. Hope they have their long johns on.
SoCal your babies are so cute! I'll adopt some, tee hee.
Seriously, are those tortoises (land dwellers) or turtles (mostly live in water, but lay eggs outside in sandy areas near water). Either way they remind me of how big Skippy was when he came to live with us. What a blessing! Found another amphibian, not sure if it is a toad or a frog. Was hopping away from me while I was watering with the hose in the green house. Does any one know what this one is?
WIB,
SW
These are Red Slider turtles, water types. I have a male and female and they have been very active this past year. lol
Last summer we noticed 2 little babies in the garden and within 2 weeks of seeing them, we found they both had died. When we googled about the babies, they did say that their survival rate was low. They don't go near the water yet, as the parents will eat them. Yuk!
Dh and I are both walking around the garden with our heads down now. Yes, we are scared we might step on one of them. A few days ago, I was using my trowel to get a weed under a plant, and went "oops" when I almost cut the little cut in half. This should be an experience this spring trying to work in the garden around all these little babies.
They seem to like being under any stray leaves....that's where I found the first few when I was cleaning up after all those winds we had when the leaves fell off the trees.
I'll keep you up to date on anything new in my backyard nursery. lol
