At least I said 3 and not 1. Great shots Gary!

Utterly astounding shots. Wow! They should ALL be in magazines. Pelle your opener shot is fantastic, it reminds me of one of the ones I’m posting. ☺
ducbucln that is an exceptional shot of the Bittern. Fantastic pose – just gorgeous and I love the bathing Hummingbird.
Gary that Tern photo is no less than stunning!

My #3 Pete the Pyrrhuloxia is the “Gentle Giant” at the feeders; 99% of the time anyway. He had had enough with the House Finch that day. He had just been eyeball to eyeball with one over an apple and he wasn’t giving up on the grape jelly so easy. This photo stays in my mind and is the one that reminds me of your Pelle.

#2 Cedar Waxwings had been the # 1 wish for my life list. This was the only time I’ve ever seen them and I almost missed it! Mr. Thrasher was eating the grape jelly and then flew up to Mrs. Thrasher or a big baby and fed her a bit of the jelly so I kept my camera trained on them for a few minutes hoping for a shot of the feeding. When they separated I lowered my camera and my jaw dropped at the sight just a few feet above. Got four clicks of the shutter and then they were off, flying south. A very happy day.

#1 Rudy the Peeper. This is a roadrunner that gets treats from me often. It isn’t unusual for him to be up on one of the walls but that day I was inside watching a soap opera so I guess he got impatient and came right to the window looking for me. My favorite shot of the year.

I have a lot of favourites from 2008. This one is special though. Visiting a local Flora Redserve, there were 8 or so cars in the carpark, but this male Scarlet Robin took a fancy to his 'rival' as seen in my wing mirrors and in the windows of my car. I sat nearby and took a lot of pictires, but this is one of my favourites.

LOL Angele! Rudy is absolutely adorable! The Cedar Waxwings are gorgeous; so glad you got to see them. Two birds that will only put up with so much; Pete and the red-bellieds.

Ken, Those are a beautiful bird!

Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

This is a tough one but this one of a Ruby-throated Hummingbird is my #1 fave

Must say you guy got some good ones. Like all the others said so hard to choose. So I'm going with the one I rarely see in my yard.
The Woodcock was a very nice surprise for one.

Resin, that Dotterel photo is really something! Very pretty bird.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

The Cooper Hawk, I've seen a few time, but they don't come often.

Very nice images, everyone .......

I tried to select my three (3) favorite photos for 2008 which was quite difficult. However here goes. In no particular order, my first photo is that of a first year Little Blue Heron, in flight.

This photo was selected 'Photo-of-the-Day' on another website and a cropped version of it was selected as a runner-up in the 2008 Dave's Garden photo contest.

I find the uniqueness of this photo to be that it is called a 'Little Blue Heron' but is completely white for much of its first year.

I tend to be a little partial toward moving 'subjects' so my second choice is that of a nearby Osprey nest with 2 of the 3 Osprey, in-flight. It, too, was selected as a runner-up in the Wildlife and Bird category of the 2008 DG photo contest. They make excellent photographic subjects as witnessed by Margaret's photo diary of "Little Aussie".

I've taken thousands of photos this year of the Bald Eagle so it would be impossible for me to pick a favorite. Instead, I have selected a still photo of the Northern Harrier. It is, without a doubt, the best photo that I have ever taken of this raptor. It was taken early in 2008, at 700mm. I was able to get out of my car and lay the camera and lens on the top of the car. He sat there in an adjacent field and allowed me to shoot away.

All beautiful Linth but I love the Northern Harrier!

Ditto what pelle just posted...wow!!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Well, this is made a little harder for me as I don't keep all my photo's on my computer. I move the them to a storage site after awhile. But I do keep some!

We all know how over the top I was when I got the Pileated Woodpecker...but I did not pick one of those. Or how happy I was when I got the Barred Owl...but not that one either. I have several Feild Sparrow shots that I just love from an artistic point. But they are not on the computer. Sooooo

I am sure you will be surprised at a couple of my picks!!

First one is no doubt not a surprise...The Cedar Waxwing!!! I just whined and carried on, convinced I would never see one up close enough to get a good pic. I was sooo wrong about that...and I am so glad I was. One of the most beautiful birds IMO!!

Second would be one of my very favorite birds that comes into my yard. They put a smile on my face everyday and I can't imagine not having them visit and amuse me with their silly antics.

The American Crow...

Thumbnail by nanny_56
Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Third...man this could have been so many birds...all the warblers or the orioles which were so cool to have them coming to eat. My little House Wren, Nettie, who sang for me all summer... but I picked this photo of the Carolina Wren. They just are so much more elusive around here. They come & go so fast..so it has been a real challenge to get the few photos I have of them!! This was a totally of the wall shot the morning I took it. I couldn't even actually see it due to the sun angle, but I got it!!
