Hello all! I'm new! Just found yall while i was surfing around.
I'm from Florida but I'm now living in Washington State about 20 minutes n of Seattle, yeah what a change!
I'm glad to have found you! I just moved into a home with my best friend and her 15 year old daughter, Kiley. Kiley is a total city girl, and i'm a small rural town girl. So I of course want a garden.
Luckily in this townhome there is a pretty good sized back yard, unfortunately a lot of it is cement! yikes! But there is enough to do a small garden and lots of areas to do pots of stuffs.
So now that Im in a zone 8, Im looking around for things to plant. of course I want tomatoes, green beans, some onions and of course flowers, but beyond that i'm not sure not being from here.
So i'm imbarking on this journey and looking forward to being able to get help from yall and share! off to look around the site more!

New-LyonesseLore Garden
I moved from Bellingham to Montana. I would try melons....cantaloupe grows in Montana so it will grow in WA good luck!
Lyonesse~ I remember I used a red colored plastic wrap like material to mulch the soil for my cherry tomatoes to produce (in large containers on wheels to move them about in the sun). I used to live on the Sound about 20 miles south of Seattle. My neighbor, who had a more open, treeless garden area; grew her tomatoes in a raised bed. There are a lot of neat gardening stores and nurseries in your area and I'm sure they will assist you in your gardening selections and advice as well as offering various gardening workshops to participate in.
I am guessing that since you are coastal, and there is that banana belt current going through the Sound, that you will be able to grow veggies year round. That was probably not something you could do in FL. Also you should be able to grow things year 'round, what some of us in the hot areas can only grow in the winter.
What fun you can have discovering what I suspect will be a whole new gardening adventure. What you miss in direct sunlight should be made up in ambient temperatures that are much easier to take for you and your plants.
