Can You Plant Green Potatoes?

I bought a bag of various fingerling potatoes, some of which have tiny little sprouts on....but....the potato itself is turning a bit greenish. I have heard you don't want to eat the green ones because they are toxic....true??......but can you plant them and eat the potatoes that they grow?
