I had the first flower on one of my pansies two days ago, but it doesn't look quite right. As you see, one of the petals didn't grow well. Is this something that is common? Is it a care mistake? Can I prevent it from happening to other flowers?

I'm not sure what causes some flowers to grow like that, but I don't think it's because of a care mistake. Probably the other flowers will be fine. Keep removing the blooms as they fade so your pansy will make more flowers rather than seeds.
Things like that happen sometimes with flowers--if you are repeatedly getting distorted blooms from a plant then you can think about whether there might be a problem, but if it's just an occasional thing then it's just a case of nature not always being 100% perfect.
