Hi. I'm hoping someone can advise me.. I have a houseplant ( peace lilly I think) that I inherited from the previous owner of our house. I have had it for about 2 years now, it has never bloomed. The little leaves of the new growth turn black- starting at the very tip of the leaves and spreading in towards the stem. It starts off making the leaves wilted and soft, but then they dry out and get crispy. I thought it was an overwatering problem at first, but I feel I've been pretty careful about that for a while now and it is still happening. I'd love any ideas on what is wrong. Thank you!

Peace lilies like indirect light and a humid environment. During the winter, I keep mine well misted and about once a month I put it in the shower and give it a good hosing down to clean all the dust off the leaves. If I forget, it starts doing the same thing yours is doing.

I think they can also be sensitive to minerals in tap water, so you might try collecting rainwater for it or using distilled water and see if that helps. The symptoms you describe also fit with overwatering though, so you might want to check into the watering a little more...make sure that the pot has a drainage hole in the bottom, if you have a tray under it to catch excess water make sure it's not sitting in that for long periods of time, and when you're checking if it needs water try sticking your finger a few inches down into the container to see if it's drying out yet...lots of times the surface can look and feel dry but down an inch or two it's still sopping wet.
