African Violet - Optimara Little Sapphire
January III Blooms
Great Pictures
I agee with great looking pictures! Wow............did you have someone taking care of them for you? If so, please send the help to my house while I need to leave town (LOL)
I had 3 different friends who took "shifts" caring for my kitties--But as for the plants I just filled the reservoirs before I left, domed the ones I don't have wicked, and crossed my fingers the whole time I was gone :-D
Maybe I should get myself a few more 7" domes . . . .
do you have any good places to get the seven inch domes?
They are all lovely! So glad they did so well while you were gone! That is great!
Jim - there is a local hydroponics store that has the 7" mondi domes for $10.00 each. This isn't their store, but it shows the one I am talking about http://www.humboldtwholesale.com/Mondi/Dome. Their prices on everything else seem to be rediculously high, but $10.00 seems reasonable for this one, from what I've seen on the web. (they want $5 for the 2 1/2" dome, and $2.50 per black tray)
Now, for those of you who need more black trays, domes, inserts - I went to 2 different Lowe's yesterday, and they are starting to get in their seed starting stuff. I got the Ferry-Morse 3-pack for $8.97 (I think that's a $1 less than last year) - it has 3 black trays, 3 72-cell inserts, 3 clear domes, and plant markers. I'm waiting for them to get more of their stuff in . . . I'm waiting on the individual black trays . . .
Last year, or maybe the year before, I bought their domed windowsill starter trays, and continue to use them. Used the peat pellets that came with them to start leaves, and continue to use the trays for leaves and ailing mini's. Think they cost me about $4 total--they were on sale at HD.
Just looked at the domes in the link--Like the vents. Here's another option--I have these and love them, and the" kit "has domes. The vendor could tell you if domes are available for the other sizes. http://bloominjungle.com/browse.phtml?catid=146
Speaking of BloominJungle . . . how is that tray thing working for you, that you got from them?
Good Morning! The trays are wonderful! I am using them for my mini's right now. I mix up my water in gallon jugs--with physan, fert., and sometimes I add a drop of Superthrive, and I'm good to go for 2-3 weeks! My mini's that are not wicked dry out totally in one or two days. I have trays for 3 and 4 inch pots also--Haven't set them up yet. I'm in the slow process redoing my whole light set up which includes adding lights, putting them all on timers, and basically tearing apart, reconfiguring the entire room--sounds easier than it is! I've spoken with a couple of other people who have them also, and they love them too. Edited toadd that the plants onthe trays are thriving.

I recently got some domes from HomeHarvest.com. Their 7" domes are $9.95 but the 2" domes are $3.49 and the black trays are only $1.49. I don't remember what they charged for shipping but they were easy to deal with and shipped promptly.
Sarah
Can you take a pic? I'd like to see what they look like with plants in them!
ok--give me a few...
That is all for now--if I can get decent pic of others--will post later---also, vendor will work with you to meet your individual needs. If you have the trays, you can order just the inserts, you can order with or w/o the domes. The inserts come with different sizes of openings for differnt size pots etc.

Great pictures, Phoebe. I can't watch CNN, makes me crazy. I do watch Fox all the time though. Fox bunsiness channel too.
Thanks Sally--I'll be glad when I'm done reorganizing, which has been quite awhile in the planning. The trays pulled the plan together for me, but is a lot of work. I can't get Fox news here--so it's CNN or network news for me, on tv anyway. I know what you mean though...some of those talking heads are really annoying! And too much focus on sensationalism and celebrities. This new program, however, is quite good--stays in here and now, and explains $$ issues that apply to the average consumer in terms that are easy to comprehend, even for someone like me, who seems to be challenged in this area. The program gives specific, down to earth advice on how to handle credit cards, banking, shopping, recognizing and avoiding $$ scams and bad deals/investments. Very informative.
phoebesviolets-Thanks for showing your trays. I hate to be real blonde today, but could you show a picture of the walmart lamp you mentioned? I quess I missed it. Thanks, Lou
Didn't post it yet--It is 24" undercabinet grow light--costs @ $9. I attach it to plant stand via mini bungee cords. How's that for a Mickey Mouse set up? LOL! Will post pic later today.
Too bad you don't have Fox News Channel, Phoebe! They are balanced and you don't see that anywhere else in the media. Shame on the others!
I can't wait to see your "Mickey Mouse" light, ha. May it grow lovely plants for you!
Phoebesviolets, I just threw away a lamp like the ones you use. It was overheating, it felt like it was over 250 when I touched it - sorta' scalded me. I e-mailed the manufacturer and never got a response. Please monitor yours and put a smoke detector in the room.
Politics and religion are 'no-no's' on DG. I haven't watched Fox News in 10 years........there are always two sides to a coin and Fox news is hardly balanced.
Today is a Great camera day for you! I'm loving the pics!
I used to watch Fox News a lot, loved Shepherd Smith, wonder if he is still a Fox News reporter? I watch CNN occasionally, but mostly watch our local NBC channel for local and National news. I guess it just depends on my mood, channel surfer here ... caught that malady from my husband! LOL.
Love your AV 'Cajun Heritage', a really pretty one! What's that AV in your last photo? The blooms sorta look like Optimara 'Annabelle' to me.
