Daily Pics Vol. 171
Hey dave, I love how we can see through the wings of the house finch in flight!
Yes, Marna, sorta like Venetian blinds
'zactly. Also love the pose of the Red-bellied.
And of course, all your blues are fabulous. I recently confirmed that there are still bluebirds in this area. Not in town, of course but I saw some at the local slough a while back. Poor things.
the local slough a while back. Poor things
Would that be the slough of despond from Pilgrim's Progress, then??
;-)
Great pics Everyone!
bsharf, Love the Pelican!
crowelli, I like your setup!
Dave, Love the House Finch!
Thanks everyone for the welcome. And thank you nanny_56 for id-ing my little fluff ball for me.
burn_2007, I love the Bohemian, Snow Bunting, Pine Grosbeak, and Common Redpoll's. Such pretty birds that we don't have in these parts. I'd trade you a couple of cardinals for some of them if I could. ;)
I did not have time for pics on my morning walk this today, had to be hurrying to be off doing errans. So of course there were 4 Blue Birds right there in front of me and following me along or so it seemed. I told them that if they need water the next few days when the bitter cold gets here to come down and use the heated bowl! I also have PB spread on the trees they could nibble on too.
So anyway, these are from over the weekend...first up is our Fox Sparrow. I am so glad to see it here everyday!
Nice pics nanny!
bsharf, that's a beautiful shot of the Pelican.
crowellli, you'll have to put up more feeders, by the looks of it. Is that a brugmansia the bird are perched on? Nice pic.
Nice clear shots Dave, Favorite is the Red-bellied Woodpecker.
I want that Brown Creeper Nanny. So sweet.
Thanks Pelle, Countrymouse and Nanny. Didn't do much pictures today, got the Mourning Dove this morning and a Blue Jay.
Thanks to all who are posting their pics and providing ID for the birds. I love them all. We've really got some talented photographers here. I look forward to visiting here each moring to see what's been spied in other places.
I just realized in my earlier post, the pic didn't get through. I'm retrying this American Goldfinch pic. It looks like the brug is a goldginch umbrella!
Burn, your plant ID was correct on the brug.
Crow
Hi Crow! Nice to see another Houstonian here - I like to see what other people in town are seeing so I can know what to expect at my place. Love your pics. I am excited - yesterday my feeders started to fill up with many Goldfinch for the first time ever! I will try to get some photos. I have never seen them before this. Strange, as they are such a common bird. I have never seen a house finch either, and it looks like you have plenty! Send them my way could ya? I am in Clear Lake, what parts are you in?
love that starling... but nice shots everyone
Rntx22, I'm in west Houston, near beltway 8 and Westheimer. I've lived in other parts of Houston too and have always had house finches and goldfinches. House finches visit my feeders year round. I also have lots of woodpeckers. This is an older established neighborhood with large trees, so that helps. I'm not too far off the Terry Hershey nature trail and bayou, so we also get hawks and ocassionally an owl. Not long ago, all the Blue Jays and Mockingbirds around started a real rukus. I went out to see what was going on and two large owls were in a large tree in they garden. I was thrilled and ran in to get a camera. Of course, by the time I got back out there the Jays had driven them off, so no pic. I love hawks, owls and eagles.
Crow
Every ones photos are just amazing. Waiting patiently for my lens so I can join the fun!! The birds really help with keeping the winter blues at bay!
It was wicked cold this morning, and a group of pine siskins came by and at all the food (which I filled up yesterday afternoon, and they finished it off a few hours ago!). The pileated has also been by (s/he is here right now in fact).
And I got a surprise today! While on a conference call this morning, I was looking out and saw a hawk swoop in the middle of the two big trees in back and then curve around and go back down into the woods below. All I saw was a creamy belly. Not sure who it was after, but being as there are no branches that low on the tree it was the red squirrel who I had seen there right before. That was my excitement for the day (in addition to my husband's reaction when I was trying to get his attention while not saying anything. Snap*Snap*Snap*Point!)
pelletory - yeah right it was cold by you. it was -11F not windchill here this morning. I doubt NJ had that. so hush so I can wallow in my cold sorrow ;-)
