Tomato help needed

Lowell, AR

Hi. I'm new to the forums here, but would appreciate any help.

I have a black cherry tomato (heirloom variety) that I have been growing indoors for a few months. It's been doing very well, but a couple of weeks ago the lower limbs began drooping. Now it is flowering and has one baby green fruit on one of the stems and I checked it's underside this morning and the roots are growing through the drain holes.

I think the container is too small and I'm scared to transplant it into another container, because I don't know if it can handle the stress.

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure the plant would be terribly stressed. You would just be taking the entire soil mass, with the roots intact, putting it in a bigger pot, and adding more soil around the existing soil that it's in. If you water it, and let it begin to dry, but not enough that the soil crumbles when you turn the pot sideways and ease the plant and all out of it, set it in the new pot and carefully add soil around it, it should be fine. Use the next size up from the pot it's in. You may have to put a little soil in the bottom first to compensate for the difference in height when you move the plant.

Thanks so much. I'm going to go ahead and do it today. I hope this works. I've put so much work into this one particular plant, she's like my baby.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again.
