Nice pics of the Brewer Blackbirds duc!
DAILY PICS VOL. 170
I just love hawks. I think they are the most beautiful birds. I have a friend who lives out in the country and has birds, a cockatoo, some doves, etc. She actually kills hawks. I was horrified when she told me that. She said they will actually come onto her front porch and try to get her birds out of their cages.
Hmmm . . . try to point out that what she is doing is illegal, and carries a lengthy jail time if convicted.

Yeah really....How about she keep her birds in the house??? Stuff like that gets me steaming.....gotta take a break here.
I'm with you nanny!
Good ones Mrs Ed!
Getting there, Pell! I've squeezed some suet in behind the bark and they seem to stop for at least a couple seconds later. This one was funny. It found a seed in there and tossed it out!
Oh..those are really nice Mrs. Ed! I still haven't seen one.
Nanny...I'm with you and I think I've had the same type of Hawk looking for snacks in our yard.
Duc...Love those Brewer's!
Burn...So nice to see your birds especially that gorgeous Redpoll.
Nice ones Mrs. Ed!
I just don't understand why we violate spaces where wild animals live be they hawks, aligators, bears, or lions and then kill them when they are only doing and being what they are.
I get aggravated somtimes with the raccoons here, but they are just "being coons". If I didn't feed the birds there would be very little reason for them to come into our yard since there would be no food source. Therefore I bring almost all my feeders in every night.
Ahhh well...now on with our regular programming.
Today's odd couple...Downy Woodpecker and an American Goldfinch

Well said Nanny.
Mrs Ed, the Creeper photos are beautiful. Very clever of you to put the suet out for them on the tree.
Nanny, love that Woodpecker with the Goldfinch and you also did wonderful with the Nuthatch.
bsharf, those Night Herons photos are beautiful. I especially love that last one. We have the Night Herons here, but they're smart and just fly into the treetops with too many leaves for photos.
agree with you nanny - they're just being what they are. you can't change that, so stop fighting them and find a way to live WITH them. Like some plants (like grass). If more folks would learn to work with nature instead of against it, we'd all probably be better off for it.
Wonderful shots Guys!
Love the Herons bsharf!
duc - 10:20 a.m. photo - looks like the caped crusader! Beautiful feathers.
Those were great mrs. ed - of the b.creeper - especially the second one with the hooked beak and beady little eyes!
I hear you nanny - People whine here about the deer. Well the poor creatures have very little habitat left. Where the heck are they going to find food if not in someone's yard. I say if you don't want them to eat your shrubs, don't plant deer food.
bsharf - The 2:09 photo of the heron. Is he minus one leg? No wonder he's filthy. Interesting. The other herons are sensational, especially the yellow crowned and night. What a find!
I laminated a poster with labeled photos of Eastern U.S. Birds and made it, and a chart of the typical birds in our area, available to my 3rd graders. They already i.d. dark-eyed juncos, a cardinal and house sparrows, and checked them off on the char! They'll be experts in no time!
