Nanny, your Downy is wonderful and looks like it could care less if you're taking its photo. Great job. I sure wish my suet would attract some of our woodpeckers, but I guess they're busy elsewhere.

Great thread! I just had the most enjoyable 30 minutes or so savoring each and every bird. No school again today. I'm beginning to feel a little guilty - we've had 3 snow days since Christmas. Ok. Guilts over!

I guess this guy is a downy. I looked at every downy in the past two threads and he looks the same to me. Love watching their jerky movements as they choose the seeds they want to eat.

This has been a very busy day at the feeder! Lots of visitors - what fun. Little rose-breasted nuthatch. Had a white-breasted, too, but he was faster than me.

This has been a fantastic feeder for up close views of the small song birds. A first for a chicadee. Cute guy.

Hey nanny - I've got a northern flicker, too! First time I've seen one in the winter. What eye-popping feathers! This is where he landed first - the golden delicious apple tree. Makes a great perch. The birds eat the bugs and I have beautiful organic apples. Still making pies from fall '08 apples.

Thank you duc. I was admiring your robins and lesser goldfinches. What a lovely shrub, too! Last one of the flicker.

Loving all the pics today everyone! I will be gone for awhile as I am cleaning house for company in a week! LOL! Cleaning really upsets the applecart in this household!

Duc...what is that gorgeous berry plant? It reminds me of something we used to snack on as kids that we thought was poison (but we ate it anyway)!!

Here is a Tufted Titmouse at the seed block this morning.

No flickers for me.

But this male red bellied woodpecker picture cracks me up. definitely can see the reason why they are named such.

Love looking at your little Brown Creepers, Mrs Ed hope to see one, one day.
I enjoy the flickers and Titmouse also.

We've received about 6" of snow, And the yard was full of birds, these past few days. One I didn't notice was still around, is the Pine Sisken. had a few of those today.

Black Capped Chickadee, check all the feeders in the yard. They're the only one that will come around when I go outside.

I get such a kick when the Flickers are mating in the spring. What a racket! Banging on any metal they can find. Such a bunch of show offs!

I do learn something new every day with you guys... pretty cool Anita

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Thank goodness not a lot of metal around here for them to bang on . They just make that awful cry or screeching mating call ALL DAY LONG for 2-3 weeks and it drives me insane...but after that I love them! LOL

I just loved that in that one shot you could really see the yellow on the shaft. That particular one is sooo dark to on its back I have to lighten the pic a bit for him to show up.

Here is another not so good pic of him...

My mystery hawk was thru again yesterday. Watched it chase one of the small birds around before it gave up. It think it is a Sharp-shinned, but never get a good enough look and it alway lands over there in the neighbors yard. SO I think the angle, lighting and thru glass make it really hard for me to get a good pic.

Thank you!

I just love hawks. I think they are the most beautiful birds. I have a friend who lives out in the country and has birds, a cockatoo, some doves, etc. She actually kills hawks. I was horrified when she told me that. She said they will actually come onto her front porch and try to get her birds out of their cages. I still couldn't believe she'd kill them. Heck, if they'd come that close here, I'd raise doves for them for their dinner!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Love all the Ficker photos. The Chickadee and the Hairy Woodpecker shots are great too.

My Brewer Blackbirds were bullying each other on the feeder.

This little one-legged Brewers Blackbird has been coming here since he was a fledgling. I was so glad to see it has survived.
