crowellli - fantastic! thanks for postinG

there are oak titmice? man, I'm learning so much here! time to break out the books

Nanny - I'm stomping along with you. I'd also like some sparrows, buntings, grosbeaks, and flickers. I'd list more, but then I'd be greedy ;-)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I just love that little titmouse! I don't see them that often here, but do on ocassion. I've never been able to get a pic of one. I have photos of a giant petral and of frigate birds somewhere here, also some different kids of penguins. If I can find them, I'll post them. Frigate birds look prehistoric to me. They remind me of miniature teradactyls! Well, minature is a relative term.

Ducbucin, what is the plant with berries that your titmouse is on?

I love looking at everyone's photos. I feel mine are quite amateurish compared to most of you. I'm so glad that Dave's added the bird files.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

On my afternoon walk I spotted this tree with what I presume are woodpecker holes. Need to visit here more in the spring!!

Thanks Resin.

That picture of the titmouse on the berried bush (that I can't even begin to pronounce the name Resin told us) is really something. I hope that you enter that one in the next photo contest.
All of you photograph so well that even your "misses" are hits. Really enjoy looking at birds, etc. thru your eyes and lenses.

Evie, the Oak Titmouse was previously named the "Plain" Titmouse. For some reason it was changed to the "Oak".

Nanny, those Cardinals are gorgeous. I never get tired of seeing them.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Whoa...lot of foot stomping going on here too! Penguins, Redpolls, Grosbeaks,2 Brown Creepers and Oak Titmouse...it's just not fair! LOL...Thanks for sharing everyone, really enjoy all the pics.

It has been ugly here...not too cold though so I can't complain...but I do anyway!

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

See, that's why I like living so far north - the snow doesn't usually melt so the ground is always white. Much nicer to look at than the dull grass and brown everything. That's what spring is for (the one drawback).

:)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Hey Rose, just keep thinking of your 40 hummingbirds!

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

40??? Man, I feel lucky if I see two (typically one chasing the other away). Feel lucky indeed!!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Mrs. Ed, I think we need to pitch a tent out there by her brush pile this spring! lol

More from yesterday...American Crow in the front yard

the Oak Titmouse was previously named the "Plain" Titmouse. For some reason it was changed to the "Oak".

Plain Titmouse was split into two species, Oak Titmouse (mainly Calif.; brownish colour) and Juniper Titmouse (NV, AZ, NM, UT, CO, and extreme eastern CA; greyer colour).

Titmice - ah, so they're western birds. no wonder I don't know them. need to start paying closer attention to people's locations. but the pictures are so pretty and distracting! Shiny!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Nanny, I happen to love Crows, great photo. My crows are really good at fighting off the hawks that try to get my small birds. Are the Creepers as fast moving as our Nuthatches? They sure are hard to photograph. You're doing great.

Resin, thank you for explaining the split of names. I'm still learning about all my birds.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

My crows are one of my favorites too. Always make me smile! The creepers are much faster than the nuthatches. Had lots of blurred shots or ones where they were gone already by the time the shutter went off.

Well, guess I should do something produtive today. Will be back later.

Mrs. Ed...I'm already wishing for spring and the arrival of the Hummers and Orioles!!

Nanny...This spring will be my first time for really watching for the migratory birds and I can't wait!! Did I tell you that I got sucked into counting birds? Thanks to you and Resin...I am on a quest! So far I have 36 on my yard/farm count...I don't think I'll set a goal until Dec. 31...Ha!! Love the "one Creeper but two pics)!! Hee....

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I don't like being back at work! I'm away from home during the daylight hours and miss my garden birds. Hopefully I'll get out at the weekend to take some photos!

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

Everyone's pics are wonderful to see! The feeders are busy with Goldfinches, House Finches and Chipping Sparrows today. The Bluebirds and Pine Warblers came in for a mealworm snack but I didn't have the camera out then. :(

thanks to everybody who likes the Pine Grosbeaks and Redpolls And Evening Grosbeaks.

Crowellli, love those Magellianic Penguins.

Mrs Ed, I thought maybe, you would have seen Redpolls by now. Do you live near a wooded areas, to have the Brown Creepers. To get 2 on one tree wow.

I still have Goldfinches, and it unusual for them to be here in the winter time.

Nanny I think it's the year for Doves, I have tons of them. they're the messy ones. Beautiful pic of the Cardinals, your Brown Creeper.

I agree that Oak Titmouses is very pretty among the berries, duc.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh Barb, it's so good to see those chipping sparrows. I miss them.

Burn, nope, I don't live in or near a wooded area. I live in a town of about 9600 that borders a river. SO once in a while I get some passers through.

I saw so few redpolls last year that I was not sure if I'd get them this year or not.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

But if there is a group of trees somewhere nearby, every bird passing through the whole area will head for them, like an island in an ocean, or an oasis in a desert - so often you can get to see many more birds than you do in a well-wooded area, where they are all spread out.

Well this community was built a long time ago, so there are mature trees. At least 50-60 years so that helps.

Bjf826, I love your feeders.

Mrs. Ed, can you tell me where you found that wonderful peanut feeder? I've never seen one like that and my birds would love it. Your Blue Jay looks quite happy there!

I love everyone's birds too!!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Thank you Mrs Ed. I'll look into them all.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)
