What is it, Rose (the tree)?
DAILY PICS VOL 167
Haven't a clue Marna...but I've been watching everything with berries on it. Maybe someone will see and let us know. The whole farm was swarming with Cedar Waxwings today also on the Juniper trees!
Hi all! It's been a while since I came in, but I had such a wonderful birding week, I had to share. There was a tree near the river where the turkeys roosted. I saw them every morning I went there. I only had my little point and shoot with me, but here's a pic of their roosting tree. There were 13 in the tree on the right and 3 in the tree on the left.
Oh what a nice find! I love those shots.
I would like to know, what that tree is too, Rose. Looks like some type of cherry.
The Robins, beat the Waxwings to the Mountain Ash across the street. They emptied it in 3 days along with the Starlings. I saw the Waxwings perched in the tree behind their house a few days later, but was no berries left. That was earlier in the season, late fall.
The Waxwings have been hanging around, since then. I would see a few, once in a while, that's why I decided to try to lure them in.
Nanny if you got the Cedar around, I'm pretty sure they'll come, if you put out the grapes, but they might go faster for smaller bright berries, The Bohemian were more attracted at first to the small one the Mountain Ash berries and the blueberries, also had dry raisins in there.
I didn't know they liked peas also. Good to know, I don't have a whole lot of berries, to make it last through winter, but could always add peas with it. Thanks
I wish I'd had a better camera with me. I got some good videos of a beautiful Verdin and several Harrier hawks (I videoed the female, but there was a beautiful male too) and American Kestrels. I haven't figured out how to post the videos, though. Can you do that (link to a video from here) with photobucket, or do you have to use something like YouTube?
Over Thanksgiving weekend, I also got some really close up video of a woodpecker. I looked it up, but I don't remember what kind it was. It had yellow on its head. On both trips, I saw lots of one of my favorite birds, the ruby crowned kinglet but didn't get any pics. There were so many sparrows, I couldn't tell you all the types. I was hidden very well in some brush. So well that a sparrow actually landed on my head before realizing I wasn't part of the bush!
PK, lol. I can visualize you in the scene. lol, the tree has captured my attention too. I hope someone will come along and identify it. :-)
Hello folks:
I love all the pics but usually don't have any thing to say,as I don't have any pics and don't want to clutter up the forum I just enjoy all your pics and comments but for Dellrose and all of you wondering what the tree is ...I believe it's called a choke cherry tree ..Thats what we called them on the farm I grew up on in Mo.
Same things are happening here in Virginia. This is a Bradford pear. It's an ornimental so the little pears only get about the size of a crabapple. Until yesterday it was loaded with fruit but the mockingbirds and starlings have been working it and have pretty well cleaned it off. This morning a couple of gold finches and this female blue bird were out there trying to find just one or two more. The fruit is just a little too big for the bluebird so she would knock it to the ground, then fly down and eat it.

It's getting late and I have been asked to start a new thread so I think I'll tie a knot in this one. See you on Vol 168.
Thanks for making the new thread - here is the link to it http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/939273/
