They all have to eat don't they. The Hawk probably thought you wanted some of his dinner. :) I saw a Kestrel a few years back just a few feet from my back door, it had taken a Collared Dove which is a big bird compared to it. It flew off but returned when I wasn't watching to eat the breast off.

Wow, that's a lot of Starlings. I have three different feeders out and the ones in my area never come close to them. I think they're such pretty birds-even if lots of people dislike them.

They are beautiful bird. Their squeaky voices crack me up when their at the top of a tree.

I had similar visitors as Pelle today, only mine were Grackles.

On the ground also. Did not get a chance for much else. It was windy and very cloudy most of the day.

Handsome hawk pelle. I am getting some starlings but not that bad...not yet anyway!
The Northern Flicker was back at the feeder wednesday morning!

and I don't think the Blue Jays really knew what to think about it! Really bad I know but gee 2 Blue Jays & a Northern Flicker LOL!!

I used to see the Boat-tailed a lot on the coast, but here all I get is the Common Grackle.

Here are the pix of what I think are pine siskins. They were here in large numbers yesterday (or day before? I lose track!). This is a close up of them on the finch feeder.

here's another shot, on a couple other feeders. you can see the yellow in the wing on the bottom right one.

That's a lot of Grackles GP! What were they feeding on under the tree?

The kid doesn't look very happy about feeding the Mallards, with parent sat in the car, lol, forced labour?

here's a large group feeding from the ground. Can't remember how many are in this picture, but we counted around 20 in another picture or two. And that's all I could get in one shot. Plus there were more under the feeders, and of course on the feeders.

That's a lot of Mallards Marna!!

Pelle and GP...The Red-winged Blackbirds are eating us out of house and home! Thankfully they just stay long enough to clean out the feeders! LOL!

I didn't recognize that female red-winged blackbird. Always so used to seeing the males, I forgot what the females looked like :)

and starlings always come in large numbers! It is always amazing to see, though not always wanted since they keep the other birds away.

re: the pine siskins - they are eating the niger seed and the goldfinches rarely do. hopefully they'll come back because I have bags to get rid of :)

Thanks, Nanny, but it is very rare that I see that many birds on my way to work. I was so tickled to see them, the owl especially.

Here is my first ever pics of Eastern Meadowlarks! Not a great shot but I'm proud of it anyway.

I also had some Cedar Waxwings visit my backyard today...joined by a Cardinal

I also saw some Wild Turkeys yesterday evening when I was coming home from work...this has been a nice birding week so far...better than usual anyway

Love the Eagle, Mrs_Ed. Wallaby, they were cleaning up all the seed that is dumped from the feeder everyday, mostly by the squirrels.

I tried taking a few through the window - only a few came out ok. Here are my Mourning Doves.

I too loved the Eagle. Here's one I took during the summer at a local ecology site. I have Screech Owls by me, but have yet to see them. I hear them, but as soon as I go out they hide. I know they are giggling as they do this!!!!
