Hi Taylor, sure will.. I got more plastic sleeves today and 4 more 3-ring binder/notebooks, hey guys, the Barnswallows are BACK for the 3rd year in a row.. They just made my day!
Seed storage ideas
A - I really love my seed 3-ring binders, too! So convenient and easy to flip through. I just planted up a whole garden of seeds a few weeks ago and am watching all the little seedlings sprouting all over the place! Now THAT makes ME smile! :-)
I love my birdies, too! :-) Doves, Cardinals, and Blue Jays along with my lone Woodpecker come every morning for breakfast! I so enjoy seeing them on the weekends when I am home. I start my 10 day Spring Break from school after tomorrow ends! Whoo Hoo!!!!
the woodpecker is upset with me Im out of suet and was not planning on making anymore this year since its been in the 50s for two weeks and the sap is running in the trees and bugs are flying around but the male keeps coming to the feeder and pecking on it as if to say where is my dinner lol hahhahah
Well, these binders are looking me in the face and I can't work on them till next week. I managed to get all the inserts in last night. Some trees we ordered are here after the first shipment was lost, so I am soaking these babies today.
Becky and Scicc,
I have never seen a woodpecker or a cardinal.. except in photos. I do however have a roadrunner that visits me every spring, probably looking for eggs in the nests the little brat.
I have at least two pairs since I have seen at the same time two males they have the red stop hehind the head I may have more but not sure
and the pileated I have one set but pics are not possible since they are usually to high up over 60 feet and they wont let me get close enough but I can see them and hear them since they are so loud
I will keep trying
yup been sitting out there in rain I would be peeved to hahahhaha I guess as I do shopping tomorrow I will get some suet since I am out of the seed mix to make it
Mona - That is sooo funny about your mad woodpecker!!! Mine has a routine too. He sits way up on the power line post in the corner of my backyard and waits for me to come out every morning to put peanuts in the feeder. He only wants peanuts! Then he squacks at me and waits until I leave. Swoops down, picks up several unshelled peanuts until he finds just the right one and then flies off with a mouthful! It's a hoot!
the finches are getting to the point they are on the railing waiting for the seeds as close as 18 inches just staring at me, this morning I slept late and DH said he had to go and feed the finches since there was like 30 of them on the railing just staring at him and he was trying to eat breakfast he said he couldnt enjoy it since he knew that the little birds as he calls them looked so hungry
You've spoiled them Mona.. now they don't want to work!! hahahaha nice photo
I was away over the easter weekend will see tomorrow if the birds are still around since I did not find a single seed anywhere they finished everything in every feeder
I thought I would bring this thread back up since so many newbies might be collecting seeds this year. I also wanted to update where are some sources to get the 9 Pocket Trading Card Pages:
http://www.wholesalecases.com/card-supplies.html#pages
There are many other places online that also sell them. Just do an internet search for "9 Pocket Trading Card Pages".
Scroll down the page until you see them. You can get 100 for about 10 cents a piece. And any 3-ring binder will do. I buy 3" wide binders to put them in!
I can get mine at Walmart in the stationery/mailing supplies area. And many craft places sell them as well as Trading Card places.
this is what I use to store my seeds it comes in a kit with 56 in total in four cases with different sizes for 19.99 at lee valeys and it can be ordered on line over the years I have purchased four sets and they sell them all individual also so if there is a size that works better it can be purchased they all come in nice cases the small ones in a metal case and they other in a nice box
nice.. my collection has grown so much I have graduated to shoe boxes LOL
for large quantities I use small paper bags I write on it first then fill and tape shut but I dont keep a million seeds of any one kind anymore I keep maybe 50 or so and give the rest away since it makes no sense to me to keep any more than that
I keep alot for trades... and I was flowering up three yards this past summer, still need to flower them up some more, Tommorrow I am going to go put out about three large bags of the mix I just put together at each place, including morning glorys..that will help a bunch!
I grow mostly perennials that way I dont have to start so many every year just new ones that I dont already have, with 2.5 acres it will take me a life time to landscape all of it, so each year I am clearing an area for planting the next year by the end of that summer it is all planted so far I have done about half an acre and it took three years, man this is taking forever hahahah but I am loving every minute of it spring 2010 is an area of about 140 by 70 or so and maybe a little bigger since we are still clearing till snow starts then that will be the area some has sun but most is part shade and full shade, I will have so much fun growing seeds and also checking the garden centers for great deals and the perfect plants that I cant grow
Nice idea Mona! 56 cups is quite a bit if you don't do a whole lot of trades and you can see the seeds pretty good in those containers. Thanks for sharing that idea!
I was shopping at Walmart tonight and decided I needed another binder (2" one this time). So bought a cheapie one for $3.00. But I couldn't find the plastic pages. So checked the trading card isle near the cashiers and sure enough there they were. Unfortunately, they are more expensive now. I think I got 35 pages for like $5+. I can't remember the exact price. But they are now acid free plastic pages. LOL! I guess that is why the price is higher. Not too bad though, as I can fit 630 small trade zip baggies in this new binder with the 35 pages. I am getting ready for this year's trades. My other 2 binders are about full. I am very frugal with my seeds and I do a lot of trades! :-) AND just bought a bunch of seeds in a co-op. I am ready!!!
I keep thinking I need to organize my binders somehow... How are some of you organizing yours? Alphabetically, by trader, by plant family, by age?
I would do an annual alpha, and a perennial alpha, and a bi-annual alpha use which ever latin or common what ever works better for you
what I like about the metal containers with the glass tops is that I can use a sharpy and it comes off with a m. clean eraser if I want to put something else in the container the next year
Mona - Oh! That's neat to be able to reuse and relabel the container lids. I like the looks of it all.
Bumped up for New folks.
