Why are my spinach seedlings dying?

(Zone 6b)

I planted these about a month ago and they were looking pretty good for awhile, getting their second set of leaves. Now quite a few have shriveled up and died and I have no idea why.

I sprayed them with neem and soapy water today and also some cinnamon.

I have a fan on them and a grow light.

I have seen a few tiny bugs in there.. maybe it's them? I didn't know if I was watering too much or too little. Maybe it's too hot in my house for them?

Spinach is a winter crop..........we are still getting fresh veggies everyday........so I feel quite sure it is too hot in your house. We have been having temps in the low 40s this week.........

Maybe someone in your growing zone will come along and help you.

The other possibility is damping off--that's a very common thing that can happen to seedlings. The bugs you're seeing are most likely fungus gnats, and when they're around that often means there's too much moisture, and too much moisture can very easily lead to damping off. The telltale sign for damping off is the base of the seedling near the soil looking pinched in and thinner than the top part of the stem--did you notice that by any chance?

No I didn't see that, though I've seen damping off before.

What I saw was the entire tiny plants just seemed to shrivel up.

I have now set them in a room where it is cooler and by the window.
It will get light from the window. Should I put the grow light back on it as well?

I planted them on Nov 19. So they are about a month old, yet they are pretty small. Is this normal?
