What have you ordered for Spring 2009?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Next year there will be a pink version of Annabelle hydrangea! It is called Incredibelle 'Spirit' and part of the proceeds will support breast cancer research. Think I will put off buying Incrediball and wait for it.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I love it when you can buy a plant that you really want and can help such a worthy cause at the same time! I find I am more easily persueded if there is a good charity behind. Not to mention the sting to the wallet doesn't seem to hurt so bad. ^_^

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

True.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I am assuming, since it is an arborescens, that the color will be unaffected by soil pH. Very difficult for me to get pink blooms on mopheads.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Oh Victor I want one too. Looked it up and the ph does not effect color. This baby is pink. http://plant-quest.blogspot.com/2009/01/new-pink-flowered-annabelle-hydrangea.html
Click the pic to see a larger picture. I will have to find a good spot for it but can't wait to get my hands on one. Thanks for the heads up Victor. I like the donation part too, just like the echinacea 'Hope' I got this year, they donate a little for each plant too. :)

Great!

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

I received my pre-order form for the annual sale at The Native Plant Center at Westchester Community College.

More info can be found here:

http://www.nativeplantcenter.org/

The actual sale is April 25. You can pre-order (deadline is Feb 23) and pick up your order the day of the sale.
It's a popular event so I recommend pre-ordering.
They always have a nice selection.

I have the white one it grows very big I wonder if the pink will do the same the white as a mature plant is 10 feet across and about 8 feet tall man that is a lot of space for one plant but it will look amazing with my white so I will get one lol

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Sounds and looks great.
AACCKKK I jsut opened my OldHouse Gardens newletter and I looked at pictures. Well, I ordered Dahlias:
Bishop of Llandaff and Jane Cowl

I also got my Fariweather Garden catalog today. Oh, my. I definitely need to order and then go to their Open House to pick it up. I'll have to get directions from them, cuz they are only about 20 miles away.
I haven't even gotten through the catalog once yet and I'm lusting after many prettiful things. Decisions, decisions.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I think my honey hid the old house gardens book

:)

South Hamilton, MA

Haven't ordered, but several catalogs came in today, including Klem's Song Sparrow. I supposed I am on the list since I ordered the 'Do Tell' peony. No room for other peonies, but they list dwarf hosta which I have looked for & only saw the big ones. Good for one of the beds which has become shady.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

Atkinson, NH(Zone 5a)

I have not ordered a dam thing.

See you all in a week or so.

I ordered from Lazy ss today. So much for my fidelity.
John, have a good time in Fla and bring back some warm weather.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Enjoy your trip...
I realized the other night I need to replace some of the plants in my shade garden because I wasn't crazy about the colors so I need to order about 3 sets of plants. 1) to replace my colrain red monarda it was too pink, 2) I need to take out all the phlox(orange perfection and red tenor) I thought they would be getting enough sun where they were but no such luck. 3) I mentioned on another thread I need to replace my achillea that was supposed to be fire king but it came up pale yellow now I have some shopping to do. It's behind a moonbeam coreopsis and it totally clashes.
I am so anal about colors. That's what happens when you used to be a fashion merchandiser.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL! I purchased seeds of red delphs on ebay last night like Mona, and more, all from the same buyer. Also got red lupine and a malva called 'Mystic Merlin'.

That new pink Annabelle hydrangea is very pretty!

John, I love the cardinal. Have fun in Florida! Wish I was going!

Karen

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

We will see. That is the plan. I may make two of them. I have a place in mind to put them. Hmmmm..... Maybe a different spot. I will have to think on it awhile.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I went to Big Lots to check out their fiberglass? planters.
What a score.
11 inch (inside measure) $8.00
12 inch $12. and change.
With my caladium order I will need extra planters for giving gifts to friends and putting calads in vacant spots in the garden second year.
I dont care if they only last a few seasons, thats cheap for something decorative.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

big win... good for you!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

victor - nice find - so how long until they have this in a non-dropping variety?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

venu - what did you order from Lazy ss? I've been emailing them to understand how big a 1 qt. verburnum is and have a few other items ready to be ordered there.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good question, Bill. The description doesn't say anything about droopiness.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i know - because it does not mention it my guess is it droops. i will get the incrediball and leave space for these to plant them together.

so how do you hear about these new plants? are you signed up for the newsletter that ngam gave the link too?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I will try to find out about droopiness.

No, that was the first time I saw that, and I did sign up for it. Can't reveal 'sources and methods'.^_^

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the Plant Hunter site. I found some interesting other articles from him.

As for Annabelle hydrangea' Incredibelle 'Spirit', I am not so sure how I feel about pink hydrangeas in Nantucket. We are so acidic that blue is the color in my minds eye, but I could be tempted. Last summer a hydrangea plant that came as a gift to me and had struggled for a couple of years, finally decided to bloom and it had some wonderful multicolored blooms, from pinks to purple to blue. I was not totally put off. So maybe I will support the good cause and plant 'Incredibelle spirit' plus my plant came from a two time survivor so she would be happy to have everyone buy 'Spirit' when they are available.

I sent in a Bluestone order the other day. I am working on a Mason's order for mostly ferns. I am still working on my Jmaple order, but I am needing to curb my appetite. I should see how the 3 new ones I planted last year leaf out this spring. But I think I will order some no matter.

I picked up seeds at Agway and then stopped into a Ocean state Job lot to buy e bags of thistle seed (always 25.00 for 25 lbs) and found they had a huge rack of 2009 Burpee seeds for 40% off list. So I bought more. I only have a couple of more on my list of wants that are flower annuals.

Here is my bluestone order which included a bunch that were half price, plus they sent about 12.00 in coupons and 15% off on anything not discounted plus some free plants. I am such a sucker for a deal. The Vibs will be small, but they grow quickly.

Thomaston, CT

Even though I ordered early, Bluestone is out of the penstemon cobaea that I ordered. I was going to order viburnum Mary Milton also, but not sure where I would put it---however, with the temps below zero this morn, I guess I can say bye-bye to my butterfly bushes!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Dutch Gardens has this really pretty Oregano plant but it's for z6....after today I think i'm a z4 again!

Robin, My butterfly bushes have been growing well in Vt for 10 years now with many days below zero. Have hope.

The Bluestone people send little coupons with the orders and also list more discounts on the order page in the printed catalog which you have to type in and they appear at the bottom of the order. Many are good until March. I don't try to match plants with them as I figure I would order things I don't need to get a sale price, but at the end, I just type them all in and see what is accepted. So aside from the half price sale items and the 15% discount, I got:

1 866 Coupon - Take $1.50 off any one selection of a Clematis variety 1 $-1.50
1 823 Coupon - $1.50 off one selection of a fragrant perennial 1 $-1.50
1 848 Surprise! Place an order for $100.00 or more and we'll include a surprise 3 pak of our favorite perennials. 1 $0.00
1 904 Coupon - Blooms of Bressingham 1 $-1.50
1 902 Coupon - Evergreen perennial 1 $-1.00
1 909 Coupon - White Flowering Perennial 1 $-2.00
1 906 Free Surprise 3pak over $100 1 $0.00
1 907 Coupon - New Plant 1 $-2.00
1 829 Coupon - Take $1.00 off any one variety of Groundcover 1 $-1.00

Now off to check out penstemon cobaea. Don't know about penstemon, but I did plant these last year and will be anxious to see if they return. All new to me. Patti

Penstemon pinifolius
Penstemon whippleanus
Penstemon serrulatus
Penstemon Stapleford Gem
