What have you ordered for Spring 2009?

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Umm, sounds good, but I don't want anything I have to bring in. Hardy, hardy hardy. I did buy a Meyer lemon from Logee's earlier in the fall. It's growing nicely so far.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hardy nectarine you could leave in a pot in your area?!

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

I think Raintree Nursery (WA) had hardy nectarines. I thought about it & decided it could be a hassle due to Peachleaf curl (cool/wet conditions).
GH - that will solve many problems.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Patti and Candyce. It looks like Dave may actually go for pictures in Garden Watchdog. I sure would like to see pictures from some of these places you guys are ordering from.

WFF is over priced and I have not had one plant ordered that lived a year.
Plants Delights is another pricy one couldnt bring myself to pay $50 + shipping for two clematice.
I am using Photoshop and my first year pictures of the gardens to plan for next year, also as back up I made graphs so I wouldnt buy more plants than needed for a spot.
Sometimes I draw the plants

sometimes I copy and paste them in. Way too much time on my hands.

wow you are good Ge!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Before you break anything applauding remember this is the plan, there is always a great distance between the PLAN and reality.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

So true....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Plant Delights is not only way overpriced, but I have had horrible experience with them. Just about the worst of any place I've ever purchased from.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

ge1836, I love the idea or just planting a virtual garden on the computer with photo shop instead of a trowel, wow no dirty finger nails or pruning.

But in reality I just placed a rose order. Taking a chance as they are shipping Feb 27th. I will pot them up in the GH, just hope they don't freeze in route from Tenn. S & W. ZuZu posted about it, though it is her first order from them. Patti

I need something to while away the hours and I do mean hours.
I just dont want to buy more plants although I finished the "shade garden newpart"just now and It looks great.
Of course a virtual garden is a far cry from reality and disease and too vigerous growt h and bugs etc.

Nice work JoAnn. I almost always plan and leave space to start out. The problem comes when a new plant that I really need arrives on the door step and must be squeezed here here or there.
Patti that is a nice list of roses. I used to have a lot more than I have now, but I will not spray and the black-spot can be very bad here, so any that couldn't deal without looking crummy most of the season went away. Nice discounts on that site, you will have to give us an update when your new goodies arrive.

Thomaston, CT

I ordered geranium Lizabeth from Park's, Deb---zones 5-7--H8", W12"--pale pink bloom with spidery purple veins--I like the short geraniums--useful for groundcovers in my east-facing gardens.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

This is one of my favourite geraniums, short & very floriferous:

It's lovely!!

Thomaston, CT

Nice & bright---I love NH purple for the same reason. I ordered a catalog from Greer's---I'm hoping they'll have the JM I'm looking for---short, hardy, & cheap!

this is a new jm business started by a DG'r who is very active on the jm forum - anyone looking for jm's should check this site out. it also has lots of info on caring for jm's

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ugh - he's the reason I never go on that forum! A know-it-all who talks down to people. Ironically, he needs major instruction in basic English, grammar, spelling, etc. Maybe he's better with Japanese?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Received the High Country Gardens catalog yesterday. They have a grass that looks real nice. It's their exclusive - called Elytrigia elongata 'Jose Select'. 4-5 ft tall by 18 inches wide. Stays very straight and upright. Looks like a winner.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that's a dangerous one for sure

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

everything I plant usually ends up bigger then it says so I am scared to grow grasses I do not want them taking over my property.

my friend down the street planted one and now it is about 20 feet across and growing out of control.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

That's the guy - he hates the coral bark sango kako so i aways make a point of posting pics of them to bust his chops. his site is still very good and i emailed him on a couple trees - he will not know exact costs until early march - his estimates were a little lower than the norm and freight very reasonable - he'll have over 200 varieties and specialize in trees in our zones. he also has your washi-no-o so i can finish the mirror image here:)

he has also not been active the last couple months on the jm forum. i actually looked to see if he was still a member - he has been busy starting this business. i think he knows his maples - just a bit opinionated - well maybe a lot.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

will have to take a look at that grass - already placed an order there - its where i ordered the Karl Foerster grass - looking now - wish there was a better picture - foliage looks nice

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

A couple of falls back I posted a photo of Aratama, with its fall colors. He posted that it was definitely not Aratama. He had never seen those colors in any photo. I then posted two or three photos from google showing the exact same look as mine. Of course he said nothing. No apology, nor admission of being wrong. And he did not know me at all. He also said a few times, when people posted photos of JM's showing browning from the sun, that it was not the sun but the humidity!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

well he is definitely one of a kind - how's that for being politically correct. - i really don't think he is as bad in person as he sounds through the key board. he did once apologize to me when he thought i was a women and his comments were delivered in his unique custom - and i said who you callin.......

he is also very critical of certain resellers and the condition of their maples as well as shipping costs. i am expecting better from him so i am going to give him some of my biz. have to look closer at rarefind because the gift certificate there was to be used on two jm's the zenobia you showed me and a couple other plants. now those i'll get from him when i understand final costs and sizes. what was interesting in his email back was he would not commit to sending the maples until he had a chance to review his stock and deem them worthy.
i think he will be a source of excellent trees - the guy mentioned once that his wife put's up with his jm addition - he has something like 300 in his yard!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Bill, I'll be interested to see what quality of trees you get. I don't have any opinions one way or the other about the guy, because I don't go to the JM forum, but I sure would like to get a nice one at a good price.

New Boston, NH

My first order this year was at Logee's catalog Brugmansia 'Angels Dream',Alocasia lauterbachiana,Aristolochia gigantea "Pelican Flower" that is an expensive start.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

grampapa i will let you know - i purchased them from forest farm, wildwood nurseries, rarefind, and greers. so i hope i can give a good comparison.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Bill.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Co-ops are doing me in...Caladiums, Canna's, now it's Hosta's & Dahlias!!!

Hosta's ordered:
1 Barbara Ann = $ 3.75
2 Cheating Hearts @ $2.00 = $4.00
1 Lakeside Cranberry Relish = $3.75
2 Lakeside Dimpled Darling @ $3.00 = $6.00
1 Lakeside Masterpiece = $2.25

Dahlias are just choosing selections for the co-op, not ordering yet so I get a breather. lol

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Oooh, I wish I had more shade. I got some hostas last year that could take some sun because stand it. I just had to have some.

Celeste what about the passiflora ‹(•¿•)›

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Shipping will be in April...they would die in transit before then, too cold.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/viewentry/206367/

I love the looks of those flowers. So intricate.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

always makes me think of something alien

I guess I will find out like Celeste.
