South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Who was it that wanted red coreopsis? I have bought from this seed place a few times, good service, fast shipping and gives extra's.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Just added two dahlia mixtures from Dutch Garden and a Baptisia Twilight Prairy blue.
I am absolutly DONE, have to delay my clematis order until March because I am over budget.
Thankgawd I started early.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

On grasses - forgot to say that I really like the giant miscanthus too. Makes a great rustling sound.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

The only thing I totally despise about any of the larger miscanthus, or even the medium sized ones, is trying to move them. There's a clump of a variegated one (cultivar is long forgotten) that is about 6' around, maybe 8', and I've tried to hack and hack and hack away at it, it just keeps coming back. I might be dumping round up on it this year. It's pretty close to my neighbors property (not the good easy going neighbor, the OTHER one) and he wants it gone...If I can manage to get it out, I will have many, many, many divisions of it. That's another Spring time chore...lol. (The digging out and dividing will be prior to any application of RU...lol.)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh yeah - they don't get moved! I killed myself removing three huge clumps of a different miscanthus last year.

Your still here!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Down to eight lives.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I heard miscanthus were life threatening. Poor Victor.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

And yet he is still recommending them. misery loves company LOL. I really want one. I see so many I like, but I'm afraid of them :( Is there a name for miscanthus phobia?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not a fan of some miscanthus, Jan. I dug out those ones because they were so floppy after a rain.

Oh boy - just received the new email from Garden Crossings. They have the new Incrediball hydrangea I wrote about in the fall. Great improvement over Annabelle. They are offering 330 new plants, including fruits and organic herbs and veggies (look expensive to me.) They are giving better quantity discounts as well.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

OhO! They have a lovely feature there too. You can add on to an existing order if you decide you need something else automatically. Makes it way to easy to get more stuff. I like it. Off to check email. :)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think they added that last year, Pat. Nice feature. They are also offering perennials for under $10 this year.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I remember those days that Victor was pulling out his "now beloved" Miscanthus and that only enhanced my phobia of planting ornamental grasses, I would say I have a Poaceaephobia, but only a "Planting Poaceaephobia" as I am not afraid of them in other peoples yards or on the prairie. But I also have others that can be explored here. http://www.phobialist.com/reverse.html Pocrescophobia, Liticaphobia. etc. But that hasn't helped me avoid them. Now off to check out Garden Crossing. I have no Purchasephobia. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No no - I was specific about the giant miscanthus. That's the only one I like!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

So does that cure my fear? Should I just order Arundo 'Variegata' from Garden crossing and jump in with both feet. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

hem - if the neighbor really does not like the grass - get him to help dig it up.

victor thanks for the heads up on incredible.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

placed my large "gift certificate" order with greer gardens - JM's asashi zuru, koto-no-ito, peaches & cream, shishigashira, and giesha. another acer species eskimo sunset. can not wait for May!

the list is to long everything from vegies to flowers and small shrubs, ordered from four different companies already got two of my orders and waiting on the other I bet that I will have more orders in before those are here. hahah can not stop myself from doing it since it is so easy with pay pal bad bad thing this pay pal lol hahahhah
ar
I just wish garden centers would open that is my favorite time of year when the flyers come in I always make sure I am there on the first day for the specials lol it just means buying more babies.

I spent two days drawing out my property on a bristol board and drawing every little detail and putting in little numbers that match up with a side list so I know what is in the bed and what will be planted and when. my husband just laughed at me well he stopped when it was all finished and he starting thinking about how many hours of work he would need to do. hahahha shame on him for laughing

my kids are now going on the garden sites with me and telling me what they want to plant this year so it has cost me about 100 dollars for their stuff oh well I just see it as time spent together now and outside as soon as this snow melts.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Robin - where did you find the Geranium "Lizbeth"? My daughter is named Elizabeth and I try to get plants with the kids names (the other is Caroline) or variations thereof when I can...
Thanks!
Deb

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thing I dont l;ike about GC is they charge your card whrn the order comes in not when they send it.
I am dealying two nursery orders until FEB. and March, my garden budget is tapped.
March order is for Big Dipper Farm and Forest Farm

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I thought they charged at ship time. How can you add to the order if it's already charged??

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

nutsfordaylily that looks a lot like my list that I was to lazy to type lol
now about tomatoes from the local center then usually do not do as well as home grown seeds that mature at different times, I usually have fresh tomotoes by july 1st and they produce till october I find that the garden center ones even with different kinds all produce late mid to end of august or even later last year Im in a zone 5 I start mine inside with nothing but a south facing window and a small fan to move them around,

as far as fruit trees please do your research most of them need a pal as to say at least two of each kind unless your close friend next door has them also. they can also be trimed in march to keep them compact and they can be trained to grow on fences. by pruning branches to give you the shape you want. I moved last year and now I am having to start with my fruit trees again last place for 12 years and had limited space but had twelve fruit trees that always produced amazing pruning and spaying in march is a must so make sure you have the time to invest before spending a lot of money.

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

wow, you're all going to be busy!

I think we need to replace the trim on our house (that or paint it...I figure replacing with vinyl will be better in the long run). I have a feeling that's going to eat up my plant spending :(

I'll live vicariously through you guys instead :)

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

Deb

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

More organized than I am, Deb. I keep it all in my head, and don't you know that those notes just fly out my ears from time to time!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

I tried making a map, but I move plants around at a whim or brain storm....and can't keep up.
Since I have kept a sketchbook for years, I can go back and look at my doodles and garden plans from way back before I had a garden to plan for. I was hideously organized then.... I don't have a clue what happened!

Photos are the best way for me.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Photo maps.
But if you are particularly susceptible to "plantusbeenthereustoolongus" phobia, then it's all a moot point.

I saw the GC website - I quickly closed that window when i saw the Hydrangeas. Been thinking about a few more - but they may need to stay at the Nurseries a bit longer.

Also received the WFF catalog. What can I say - nice stuff, but my local nursuries sell the same varieties at a lower price. We are blessed with some wonderful nursuries here.

Carmen Coreopsis - a well-chosen moniker, Victor. I'd like to get my hands on several.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, Kate - WFF is overpriced.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm saving the GC catalog for a more 'rational' day. I have been looking at dwarf fruit trees. thinking of a patio nectarine in a big pot. anybody have any suggestions? I had a beautiful little nectarine tree years ago that bore fruit the year after it was planted at about 4'. The nectarines were large, sweet & juicy. It succumbed after another year (my yard there was very wet, not enough sun, heavy clay, UGG). I don't remember the variety but they have probably been improved anyway.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hi Jan. I have a madarin tangerine in a pot. Produces sweet, easy to peel (like clementines) juicy fruit. I do need to re-pot it. Of course I bring it inside for the winter.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Victor - how old & what size at this point?
I'm gunning for a GH - Citrus growing may cement the deal...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Has to be about 8 yrs old. Only about 3 1/2 - 4 ft high.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Thank you - duly noted.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You're welcome. Got it from out your way - One Green World.
