The Case of the Torn Bag

Falls Church, VA(Zone 7b)

Last year, it was the bag of grass seeds that my DH left on the floor in the garage. The bag got ripped open, apparently by field mice, and the seeds devoured. This year, I had a bag of bulb food sitting on the garage floor, next to the potting soil mix bag. Today, I was potting up my amaryllis bulb and went to get the bubl food bag and it emptied itself on my feet!! A big whopping hole in the corner bottom.

I guess the mice thought we were so generous that we'd do the same grass seed party as last year, eh? Needless to say this is the first time I ever had my blub food bag vandalized, and now know that I should put it in a plastic bin.

Have any of you had this experience??

if these little devils can get to any CAR, TRUCK etc BEWARE, they filled up my carb and intake valve to the point I had to have the car towed in and cleaned out by the big guns as we could not get the intake valve cleaned on my car.

What did they fill it with? How awful (and expensive).

My cats are worth their weight in gold. We never have any problems with mice or chipmunks.

Nature--I've owned many cats and they either ran off or did nothing. I now have a dog and he's pretty good, but he doesn't sleep in the garage. I know we should have canned the grass seed, but I never thought they would rip the bulb food bag!! It never happened before, and only afer the incident with the grass seed. I thought it was funny that they would drill the bulb food bag. They ate none of it, of course. I just didn't see the hole until I picked kup the bag...

My goodness, irislover---that sounds like the rat pack from hell!! I never heard of this sort of thing happening with cars.

O that is odd Foxnfirefly about the bulb food. I wonder what about it they thought they would like? Mickey moved into my garden shed when someone (whose initials are DH) did the same thing-left the grass seed bag out. I hope he moved out this fall, but only spring will tell.

Many years ago left a bag of grass seed on the shelf in the shed and found it ALLL OVER the shed in the spring. Never did that again. I save all my large coffee cans and everything that comes in paper/cardboard/soft plastic goes in whether I have opened it or not. I even bring in my outdoor cushions and dog crates(soft side) to ensure nobody makes a cozy bed in them!

Oops I left moss liners in the shed. ok I'm going in. If you here a shriek from my neighbourhood you'll know I woke up Mickey. Actually I think field mice are cute. It's unfortunate they don't cohabitat with us to our liking. I find the plastic dishwasher detergent tubs also work great for mouseproof storage.
