Fantastic pictures Shelly, cats are like have perpetual 2 year olds aren't they?
As for our sunshine, the clouds are coming in, supposed to get a bit of snow this afternoon....the traffic cam for down town Seattle was......white.......that is all you could see there. At least for our Christmas with Bill's family this afternoon we only have to go abut six blocks so we can walk if worse came to worse....would mean my mother wouldn't go, but that wouldn't break her heart either (she likes my Mother in law but isn't too fond of Bill's sister.....but then, neither is Bill come to think of it!).....but it is Christmas and may we all have as much fun as your kitty is having!!!

Laura in PA, darn I got behind. She had to pass me by a few miles. depending what route she took. I am 3 miles from the Hood Canal Bridge.

Glad you are all is safe and warm
Happy Holidays

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas. We spent the day at home, Mom came for dinner and visited for a while. Just a quiet day except for the phone....kids called, sis called, neighbor called. LOL I've got cauliflower ear! Heard from GD in the Air Force in Utah...that was special. She's such a sweet girl.

We've had it all as far as weather today, rain, snow, clouds and sunshine. Don't think it ever got over 35, so too warm for the snow to stick, but it was cold. It's 31 now and they're saying the snow level is down to 500 ft. tonight, so we may get it yet.

Tilly, I will tell them when I talk to her....they went across the bridge.

It was sunny most of the day, then turned to clouds.....no precip so far. The roads that weren't cleared are now slushy and a nightmare to drive on.....we only had to go about a mile but our street and mother in laws street were so incredibly bad my mum was a wreck by the time we got home, she was sure we would be stuck and she would have to try and walk in the snow. Our big problem was someone from the neighborhood got himself stuck at the beginning of our street, had his door standing open which forced me out of the track I needed to be in....as a result I would have to back up and plow through, back up and go a little further....with the tires spinning and snow getting slung around mom was soooo happy to get home. But she doesn't particularly like to go places at the best of times. Aside from the trip to and from, we had a very nice evening. Now if they will just get our streets cleared we would be just fine....and Bill has to go back to work tomorrow.....if the street is like this in the morning, I'm sorry but he is going to be on the bus.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.

We're having one of those nights. Temp is back up to 35 now, was 31. What is it, the winds change direction or something? You wouldn't think it would change that much.

Must be lower in town, the police dept. just put out a warning on the news that the streets are icy.

I'm glad that you made it Tricia! Sort of a crazy day for you it sounds like, But, it ended as it should be, so that's good. Love the Icicle, it's weird. I agree, Precious (my orange cat) is definitely like a two year old.

Sally, I think that yours day was the way it should be!

Since both my mom and I were staying put due to the weather, we decided to have dinner with a friend and co-worker who had invited a bunch of people from work and other places. I looked at the drive from a distance off, thought 'huh, that looks a little steep with all that snow, but we'll be fine.' I turned into the bottom of the drive, started to head up, and a car was sideways off to the side of the driveway. So, I parked at the bottom. When we got into the house there was talk of calling a tow truck, or someone with a winch, or whatever. I sort of though out loud..... that car's not any heavier than mine, a few people could push mine anywhere. The person next to me heard my mumbling and said let's do it! So, right before dinner we all went out and pushed the car out of the holes in the snow, across the driveway and down towards the bottom of the hill...... Slowly! somone was steering and braking. That was the most fun that i've had on christmas day in a long time. we looked like giant kids covered in snow, pushing a giant sled. It made it even better then that no one had to pay for a tow truck.

Team effort wins again! Glad you had fun. Tow trucks are expensive and probably would have been a long wait.

DS in Lake Los Angeles and I were swapping stories about critters and snow. Had a good laugh!

For certain a long wait. And were all glad that it wasn't bone chilling cold out.

That must have been fun reliving some of those stories with your DS! I've never heard of Lake Los Angeles. I'll have to look that one up.

I took just a few pics from today. I wish that I could've been able to see this sun that every one is mentioning.

The first one.

Ahhh..... Thanks! That's one of my Hellebores. Its Helleborus x orientalis, a maroon one of the 'Royal Heritage' strain. I'm really surprised that it's coming up this early. The last 4 or 5 years my hellebores haven't started to come up until late february, after others had started to bloom. I attributed it to the snow that I was getting every year about the time that they were starting to come up. Figured that the cold spells were making them think twice and then delaying them. Then all of a sudden this one, which has been the latest one to bloom the last few years, is now coming up way before the others. You've heard of them before or not?

this is out of focus, I was trying to get a picture of my JM 'jiro shidare'

This is my Nandina that is now about 1/4th of it's height prior to the snow coming down. you can see one of the broken trunks behind it. i may try to repair this one, just for kicks I guess.

Eugene, OR

I've heard of them, but haven't seen any. I'll look them up. I have a lot of seeds to try late winter, sent from DG people, that will be something new for me to try. I have a heat pad (for seeds) that I used for rooting the plumeria cuttings my sis sent me. I've got a bank behind our place where I want to do native plants, mixed in with my Iris of course. Everything in there right now takes little water, so I want to keep that. But first I have to divide my iris, they really like it where they are and are growing like crazy. LOL Hopefully the first thing I'll do come spring.

Hellebores are one of my all time favorite perennials!! you should get some!! To me they just can't be beat because 1) they bloom in the winter 2) they're plenty hardy 3)they are an evergreen perennial 4) they come in many different colors! You can grow them from seed. They take, at a minimum, 3 years to bloom if grown from seed. It's usually more like 3-5 years. which is what makes them a little more expensive to buy a blooming age plant. However if you pick them out, labeled by color or in bloom (that's best) then you know what color they are. the color comes true from seed only about 50-90% of the time - depending on how strong the line is. If you don't care that much about the color of blooms, growing from seed is a great way to go.

Eugene, OR

I looked it up in plant files. That's one I would like for sure. If yours are starting to come up now, then they should have them at the nursery before too long, right? Hardy, I like, perennial, I like. I wait for my Orchids, don't really have all that much patience in my garden. I have enough seeds to play with, none of those.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

this is my favorite one that I have. I took this picture of it last year before I had a decent camera. It was still in a pot as I was putting it all around the yard to see which location was truly going to show it the best.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

sorry, now the pic.

The nursery's that stay open year around likely already have them. However they are really more at the height of their bloom time in mid feb. But, of course if you want to choose one that's likely to be the earliest bloomer, now is a good time. Helleborus niger, is reliably blooming about now. However, it only comes in white. There are some hybrids that generally bloom earlier than others, but you usually have to see them in person to pick one that is clearly coming up before the others.

I'll just have to look, they put in a nursery down the road from us, I might check there. Sis bought mom a hanging plant there for Mother's Day, it was a very nice plant, bloomed up until frost.. I cut it back, and put it up to see if it will come back. Figures it wouldn't hurt to try.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Sounds like a good plan to be. I'd be very curious to know if they do have them. Will you let me know? I love to look at them and drool! If you don't find some there, I know of a few local places that do have them, usually.

Eugene, OR

Will do! I'm off to bed. Have a good day tomorrow.

You too! I'm off that way as well!
