Cute mouse ears Digger! WTG!
Streptocarpus
I think most people use capillary matting for african violet leaves through the stage of even separating the babies, don't they? Those look mighty happy to me..........

Too sweet!!
Thanks! ^_^
I definitely need to know more about this one Jan!--It is a mini? If so, where is it available? I love it!
Jan, your little species strep is adorable! Did you grow that from seed? What conditions does it like? A terrarium?
And what size pot is it in---did I mention I LOVE it?
Is it normal for the leaves on the variegated violets to curl under at the tips? I've read that it could be broad mites. I don't know if it is true or not. I have one that is doing that, but I don't see any other evidence of mites, i.e. stunted center or greying leaves. I isolated it nonetheless. I hate it too, because it is a beautiful one from Rob's. Taffy Swirl I think.
Turtle, are you wicking your streps? It looks like they are on egg crates, but I didn't see any strings or anything. It could also be that I'm super tired and my eyes are playing tricks on me!
Shanika
jan, i love the liitle cyanandus, i did have it before & then lost it, might have to get it again, it's adorable.
bonnie
There you are, Jan! Wonderful little strep to share with us!
Yes most everything I have is now on wicking.... Jan your flower is beautiful.... :-) I believe you sent me Flair? it is a Sinn and she is blooming... My laptop is down as I cut the cord in the chair lastnight so I have to wait until a new one comes... so if you don't all see me that is why.... I am one happy camper with my blooms....LOL
Hugs to all,
Susan
Good morning freinds,
Thank you..Strep cyanandus is a cutie.I got it in a trade from Brenda. She grew it from seed.I do have it in a terrarium,I can't seem find much info on it only that it's hard to grow but it's growing so good in a jar.
http://www.gesneriads.ca/strepto3.htm
it has 2 flowers opened now so I have my fingers crossed maybe I will get seeds. If not the gessie society sells then under the species list.I would like to try and grow one in the open.
phoebesviolets,it's a small grower and I think the pot size is 2 or 2 1/4.
Bonnie, did you grow it under glass,? Lets hope for seeds or maybe when it grows more I can take a leaf.I'm sending you a d-mail for a favor to ask you.. ^_^
Susan,Flair is a cute,do you like it?
no, i don't think i grew it under glass or domed, probably should have, i think i just forgot it does need additional humidity.
bonnie
What a darling tiny tot of a plant! :)
Growhappy - are you growing your variegated violet under lights? You say the leaves are curling under. Could it be too much light for too long or too close?
Again, Jan, thanks for sharing that special little species strep with us.
Hi All,
Jan I love your flower... I also have another one blooming but this is hubby's puter and I don't want my pictures down loaded to his and not mine... I can't wait until my puter is up again... I hate sitting in this room all by myself...LOL Also have a few more streps blooming one is Jeannett or close to that spelling... she is very pretty...

I thought the same thing when I saw your Hot Ticket, gessiegail.
yes chigusa and hot ticket are simular but chigusa stays small and is a very good bloomer, mine always blooms
JIM
Goldleaf, I love the two plants/flowers together! Nice comparison! So pretty!
Sally, Goldleaf is the best grower I know!
I just realized that Susan is growing under 4 lights on each shelf for streps? Maybe after the first of the year I might try that.........
Hi GoldLeaf!
I am growing the var. one with 3 other non-var. types. All the plants are under 3 grow lights on that particular shelf- 12-14 inches from the source, and they are on for 12-14 hours per day. The variegated one is the only one doing that. I still have it isolated, but am thinking of chucking it because I don't have Avid at the moment. It's blooming now, but the new leaves in the crown are beginning to look smaller. Scary! I compared pictures of the leaves from when I first got the plant in June to now. THe leaves weren't curled then. Anyhoo, thank you for responding.
P.S. Ya'll's plants are to die for! What types of cameras are you using? I have a Nikon cool pix, but am looking for another that takes better macro shots.
Also, Gail/Nancy- I'm starting to see babies on some of the leaves you all sent me. Some didn't make it, but most of them did. I have found that the better propagating method for me is straight perlite with a plastic sleeve or dome. The ones that rotted on me were the ones I used Verm. and Perlite together. Who knew propagating would be so much fun! I do find that AV's take longer to prop. than streps. I'm considering buying leaves from LL in the Spring- from their Apache collection.
Sorry for rambling....Just got excited for a spell there.:)
Shanika
Shanika, Apaches have been around for a while. Why? Because of their outstanding variegated foliage. I love them.
This is Apache Redcoats taken a while back before I quit growing for a while. I got rid of all my plants last year and have started over with leaves and now have a few starters of a few Apache varieties, one of which is Ap. Redcoats.
i must agree with you, apache are some of the prettiest violets i have ever seen, the only reason i don't grow them is they get so big.
