Streptocarpus
Sue, they all look great! What beautiful colors! By themselves they are pretty but seeing them all together is just eye candy, LOL!
Gorgeous Gorgeous gorgeous!!!!
why thank you.... When you see dirt on some of the leaves it is still from when I dipped them and I swear everytime I think I have them clean I see more dirt...LOL I don't mind the dirt so long as the bugs stay away...
Hugs,
Susan
you have some beautiful streps, i would love to do a trade when the weather is nice. looks like you have some real beauties.my son just dumped my hard drive on my computer so i could get rid of vista, so here i am on my computer with windows xp professional one, wow , this is to cool. what a relief, all i did was swear at the windows vista, really hated that program.
mrsbonnie
You and me both but I don't have anyone to dump mine and I don't really want to pay to have it done... Anytime Bonnie you see something you like just ask... I am very plant friendly....LOL I love to share as that is the fun with growing... Or is at least to me...
Sue
You really have the green thumb going, Susan!
Party Boy is always a favorite, isn't he or she?
I find I love most of them. I love the ones that have speckles... I have a Japanese one that is suppose to have a yellow throat so I can't wait for that one... Is a mini I believe and slow grower I was told... Time will tell but it has grown since I got it and still alive after being dunked several times...LOL
Hugs,
Susan
What a treat to see all the photos of your many and beautifully grown streps, Susan. Thank you for posting. I can see why you are wicking with so many. They seem to be thriving on that watering method. When you mix your soil, do you add equal parts ProMix and Perlite? What proportions?
Love Party Boy, mrsbonnie.
I don't grow any mini type streps. I tend to like the larger growers, phoebesviolets. I have tried a couple of the smaller ones and they didn't do as well for me. I don't know why. On second thought, I do have one small grower called Jeanette that I will keep for a while and give it a chance to do better or else ^_^.
Shoot some of mine Leaf are way to large... Like King of Kings, and there is another one I can't think of but lord I am always taking the scissors to them...LOL
I now use pro-mix as I can get it from around here... I don't measure Leaf, but I have this big tub with a lid and I pour my dirt or what ever you want to call it and then I eye ball the perlite... Thats it... I do have some powder stuff to add but never got around to it yet... I do use marathon when I repot... I am sorry were so many pictures but I have two of the shelves I showed one of.... then a little one... I want another bigger one and Kim(Dimmer) is going to look in her state for me and when she comes here for Super Bowl with my hubby if they have she will get for me.... Ticks me off that one time Sam's had them and when I went back they had the same size in length and hight but not as wide... and more money for that one to boot..... Each shelf has two lights for a total of 4 bulbs... So I use 6 light lamps per stand and a total of 12 bulbs....
Glad you like them...
Hugs,
Susan
I havent grown jeanette,save me a leaf someone,lol
JIM
King of Kings was the largest strep I have ever grown. I loved it! That is one I would like to have back sometime. I took a ruler and measured the width of one leaf and it was 9" wide. I can't remember how long the leaf was. Anyway, it was humongous.
From what I have now, Poochie is growing great guns and Something Special is nice too. Jim said his favorite is Watermelon Wine and I have a young plant of it and already I can tell I will like it even before it has ever bloomed. I think it will be a robust grower.
youll adore watermelon wine, think its my favorite,i could grow multible plants of that,
come to think of it,ive got leaves down so i can grow more,
JIM
Okay, Jim, I'll be more than happy to save you a leaf of Jeanette.
This is the description...sorry I don't have a blossom photo.
(Kartuz) Fantastic clusters of bright pink flowers veined and netted red on lower petal lobes. Deep green foliage. (AGGS Register)
Thanks Gold, hows the weather in your neck of the woods.we are really really cold here
We have never had a December that I remember like this one. We are expecting a wind chill of 27 in the morning. I have both heaters going full blast on the front porch. It works because the porch is on the south side of the house fortunately.
I wouldn't make it a week in your weather, Jim.............not even a day maybe. I have a watermelon wine little plant from your leaf, Jim.
Susan, you have a great collection of streps. I'm envious of them. I got one in a trade and it didn't make it. I now have some growing from seeds. It will be a while before I see flowers. Yours are so beautiful.
I like the way you wicked your violets. How did you make the holes in the lids? Do the pots sit down a little in them? I have some NOID babies that I want to wick, but I'm not sure if I want to put them on top of containers or over a tray, like you have your streps. I'll have to go back and read all the stickies before I do anything. I'm still learning how to water and take care of the few I have. If I decide on wicking trays, I need to find out where to get them. My shelves are 36" wide. I wanted a larger one but didn't have the room for it.
