Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #73

Victoria Harbour, ON

Gillian, thanks for the suggestion, called around this morning and there is in Midland a company who does much the same as you had posted...will drop it off there this week...how's the weather up there..don't know why I always assume it's worse, more snow/colder than here when much the time it isn't...

Are any of your family coming up to spend the Christmas holidays with you?

School will soon be out for Keith and the kids..then you'll not sleep in...lol

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. The day after Christmas is the biggest return day of the year. If you have something that you need to return to a store, don't go the day after Christmas, you will be in line for hours!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

We cross posted Betty LOL

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, I guess I was a bit off, my knowledge came from reading the Anne books, but close, here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_Day

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I am deathly afraid of tornadoes. I wonder if they mean by Shelter, like take shelter, either a safe room, storm shelter, room with no windows, etc. You live in Texas and don't have a storm shelter???? I have a storm shelter and have had to use it 5 times this year, and I don't live directly in "tornado alley." Arkansas usually has about 20 tornadoes a year, we've had over 70, I don't know what the count is up to now but it's way, way high. What's kind of funny is my mom moved to Newcastle, OK in 2003, I moved to Arkansas in April of 2007. I've had to buy a storm shelter and use it 5 times now, my mom has never had to go into hers. And her house was hit by that huge tornado in 1999 that was a mile wide and stayed on the ground for miles and miles and miles. Weird how the weather changes and flexuates.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Return day..ah...well here it's return day as well but our Black Friday...at one time here all the stores were open then, now I think a good amount are closed and the day after the sales and returns begin..

Know last year I was in Florida and spent the day in Joanne's and bought so many goodies, many of which I am using now..ribbon/lights/trees..know I had a van full...lol...I'll miss that if I don't go south..

Shucks, to bad you all weren't inline on I-75 hwy, I could pick you up on my way down and we'd celebrate xmas

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, thanks, funny how certain words in a description catches your eye...here's what caught my eye..lol

"a time for employers to give to the employees..." but I will remember those in need...

Victoria Harbour, ON

As I sit here worrying about the weather getting worse i.e. blizzard and then freezing rain, I think of all of you worrying about tornado's...guess we all have something of Mother Nature's to contend with..in California its the sand storms and wildfires...

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

If I remember correctly, in the Anne books they brought a bunch of stuff they had made over the year, toys, blankets, etc. and some stuff they no longer needed and brought it down to the church; then they handed out the stuff to the families who showed up as it was needed.

I knew that the yearly set of clothes, etc... that was in the contract was given to employees on the 26th, but I never put the two together. I wish I could find someplace that would give used items directly to the needy.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

California doesn't get sand storms, it's more of a dust storm, and maybe on the Nevada state line. Arizona gets the dust storms. California doesn't get much of anything, except Earthquakes! Can't plan for those and they always made me motion sick. yuk

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are right Crissy, do think Dawn lives close to the Nevada border and that's where the storm I'm talking about took place..yes earthquakes..guess no planning is right...remember when I was travelling the west going to Texas we spent the night somewhere south of Tulsa and there was a small one there...

Would be nice Laura yes to give them directly to the needy..I have tried several times, and normally I'm a compassionate person so always think of my wording when wanting to give someone something but found in most cases that people won't directly accept, feel inadequate I guess and say they have no need...

For example, I know the family across the street is struggling, their upstairs windows have coats or blankets half covering them..when I changed a few windows I had nice curtains/shades (almost new) that I could not use so offered them to her, she said not thank you, we're fine...

Maybe it's better that an organization distributes the goods...

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Bety, Betty, keep an eye out for a pkg. sent your way! Hope it arrives before you leave for Florida. I have to second the thought from above...do you work as hard when you are in Florida as you do at home? Or do you shop the shops? I just can't see you lying on the beach with a Mia Tai in your hand. Very unBetty-like.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Girls, been going through the past several threads and mostly it's just about me/me/me...so my thoughts are perhaps it's time we close these threads....

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Don't you dare!!!! LOL You are just kidding YEAH???? BEV

No, not kidding...I've noticed for awhile that many are not posting, beyond just being busy for Christmas and that I'm just a gabbing away...might be time for a rest...those who are posting is out of commitment to this thread for many/many months...

Several months ago stayed away for quite some time and then got back into it, but I do think the time has come... to put 'CLOSED'

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

I read this thread everyday even tho I don't post much but what ever you think is right. Sure would miss it but would hope to stay in touch with you and some others. Just my thoughts. BEV

Hello everyone. I finally found you again. If I don't post on the threads they will not show up on my home page, so posting here now, so I don't loose you all again.
Betty, have you finished the Mrs suit? And those pies and cakes look devine. And all the other recipes make me hungry, and I just ate lunch!
If your traveling, please take care. There is some nasty weather out there. Drive safe.

Ps, I am working on little stuffed reindeer. I have all four reindeer made, Mother, daughter, Father & son. Now I need to finish the clothes for the boys, and fix the faces.

I'm thinking NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I love this thread and I love "hearing" your thoughts and what-not, and talking to everyone else.

OOOO wreck!! Gotta go spy for a minute ^_^

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I just found you all agian, please don't close this thread. Even though I don't post that much, I truely enjoy reading about each and everyone of you here.
Check all the threads. There are more reading that posting.

Hi all, I have to say I am in the minority for tornadoes. Totally because I have never experienced one nor do I want to BUT, I would love to see one (from far away of course). I am one of those crazy people that are facinated with weather particularly storms. I would love to go on a storm chase and even looked in to one that does "storm adventure tours". They actually gather scientific info to be used for the study of tornadoes. Unfortunately, the cost to go on a week long "tour" is about $2600 not including airfare. So, I think I'll have to just keep watching Storm Chasers on the Discovery channel!

Crozet, VA

My goodness Betty. This thread would certainly be missed by many if it were closed. What would you do all day? Has something happened that is making you think this way? Yeah, people come and go. I am about willing to bet that some that are gone for a while, will be back at some point. You folks sure added a lot to my day last winter when I found you all.

My vote is to stay as always.

Ruby

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

What in the world Betty-shame on you for that blasfemous thought!!LOL

CA, BTW gets very dense fog where you can barely see your hand in front of your face and AZ gets VERY bad dust storms-lived both places......

I just got home, stood in the rain all day and can't seem to get warm-I am about to make a bite to eat and do some stockings that have been neediong to get done, then Xmas cards:) Betty gave me the idea yesterday with things that you can do while cuddling under the covers...

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Maybe we could combine the two into one new thread....would be so nice to get pared down to just a few threads to keep up with without missing old friends (and new friends)......I might get some other things done besides be on the computer all day!

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

My vote, too, is to keep this going Betty. I enjoy reading and once in a while I post but it is nice to hear what is going on in people's everyday lives. Sometime when I read I think "how lucky I am" and other times I think "WOW wish I had the energy of that person".
Some keep me humble and others keep me young; so keep going ladies, no matter who posts.

Glenview, IL

W H A T??? HANDS FLYING TO HIPS OVER HERE!!!
oops didn't mean to yell, lol...well in a way i did.

Man Betty my/our friend whatya mean you want to close the thread.

Now I am crying if thats going to happen. Geesh I just ended my career today and now you want to end
this. I am kind of upset over this.

Why shouldn't it be about you? You are the reason alot of us come here for.
It is because of you that many of us have become friends. It is because of you that many of us
feel we can be ourselves when we post.

I dunno...I know I for have told you many times this is not just for cyberbuddies...We have created a beautiful place to gather.
A beautiful place to share ideas and comings and goings.

Personally my life is about to change rather drastically for a while..LOL, it's going to be rather mundane in the house cleaning madness. I love to come to this Thread to visit, read about everyone who shares.
And Betty I think there are more then you think who do this. There is nothing obligatory anything about it...
We happen to love YOU, read about your day and anyone elses.

Alright now i got to go and calm down. Then i will be back to catch up, and tell you about my very last day.
Was bittersweet.

Please, Don't close.

Judy...

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I would also like to ask that this thread not be closed. It is the only thread that I have to post on and I would miss all of you so much if I could not talk to you here. So please do not close it.

Jesse

Glenview, IL

And P.S.

It's not like you don't inquire about anyone else...
You have been the most generous person anyone would ever want to be friends with.
You've asked about each and every person who come in even to just say hello.

Glenview, IL

And P.S.S.

Look at everyone wanting you to keep Best Worst & Learned GOING...

Besides you would miss all of US, ans much as Us you.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes I would surely miss all of you and I do not want to lose you.

Jesse

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Betty--

Finally--a topic I can get my teeth into! This Thread and the possibility of closing it.....

Now--I am an outspoken person and I say what I think. You don't have to like it---you don't need to comment on it--NO ONE get offended about anything--right? Just read it and think about what I am about to say. You are bleeding Betty dry.....
And I am warning you--this will be a long Post!

Betty---I understand how you feel about wanting to close this Thread, Betty, however--the content that is now overwhelming you is of your own making. I cannot even imagine HOW you spend every waking moment posting on here, and many other threads??? I know you are a fast typer, but--still--you seem to be on here, and other Threads--24 hrs a day!!! That is insane! You are the pillar (because you started this Thread) and we, all the posters, have become the choking vines growing up this pillar. You have reached a point where you cannot breathe any more. You are choked out of your breath!

--Every Post tugs at your conscience to be acknowledged and commented on.
--Every finished craft project needs your praise and approval.
--You are (lovingly) obsessed to promote and help everything you are doing for Eternity.
--You spend 80% of your work time working on all these projects! HOW do you get
away with it and still get paid? Paul must be an amazing boss!
--You are beyond compulsive in everything you do. It DOES take it's toll on you. Do you
ever realize this? STOP! BREATHE! RELAX!!! LIVE! LET IT GO!!!!!!

Maybe closing this post, as it has , is NOT the answer--but, seriously altering what it should contain, is. You have created a "monster" and everyone is feeding off of you--one bite at a time. Bleeding you dry! Geez! This Post moves to the next "chapter" every week!!!!! That is insane!
There is too much gab about everyone's lives and kids and pets and dilemmas, and marital problems, and who is doing what and going where and all that. While it is an "outlet" for you all--it is another nail in Betty's coffin--so to speak. Look at all the physical problems she is experiencing! Might you think most of them might be stress-related?

Why do I say all this? Because--you, Betty, have created this Thread and made it SO complex and have such a compulsive need to comment on everything and everybody's comments that you are getting seriously overwhelmed. You give...give...give.....You make kits and mail them--You hold classes --how may times a week? You put your own needs aside to satisfy all the needs of others. You work at things 24 hrs. a day, so you will be the "amazing one"--and we all feed you the words to keep you doing it. WHY???????

YOU--Betty--are a wonderful person, and you DO NOT need to continue this insane, mandatory need to be needed carry on with this Thread. YOU DO NOT!

OK! NOT putting this on your shoulders. You are just the "sponge" that absorbs everything sent your way. And--it is seriously, overwhelming you. SO! You have every right to cut it loose

I approve of you stopping this Thread as it is now.
I also approve of it continuing under different guidelines that YOU must be willing to live by.
It just needs emotional and "needy" editing. Get off your "need to be needed" idea.

My message to you all posters, that feel you need to dump on everyone every minute of the day, is to---DEAL WITH IT! PLEASE do not lay it all on Betty--as if she needs to "support" all your needs and wants and be everyone's sounding board.

I have never been on it--but there is a Chat Board on Tuesdays and Thursdays--I believe--and you can feel free to dump on anyone there about anything. Do it! A DG Post may not be the greatest place to do it. It gets too boring/redundant to those of us not in that category.

In my opinion--the "Best and Worst Thread" has exceeded any logistic reason to keep on posting every single day about every little problem, or happening. in your life. Just deal with it yourselves! WHY lay it on anyone else?????
It DOES get overwhelming to those of us who do not have the need to do that. CHILL!

In conclusion-----Betty! If you want to continue this--it is up to you. BUT! If you want to step back and let the "chips fall where they may"---I support your decision to close this Post as it is. Set some guidelines--if you want to go on.......

Gita

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Where are you Betty? Your not in Florida are you?

LK

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Gita, I'm sorry, I do need to comment. I think somewhere in your post you might really care about Betty but I'll be honest, I think your post was very hard and uncalled for in a public forum. This is not the first time you have "slammed" Betty for everything she does. THAT IS WHO SHE IS! In your words, DEAL WITH IT! If you don't like the ramblings of all of the posters, feel free to just unwatch the thread. I know Betty would hate to lose you and any of the other posters but if you're not happy with it, no one is making you read it. I just feel like what you had to say could have had a little more compassion.

What is wrong with wanting to "chat" with friends every day? We all know Betty is a craftaholic but that's one of the MANY things we love about her. In addition, she is compassionate, caring, genuinely interested in ALL of us. I also don't think Betty is the only one that supports this thread. It is a team effort. We all can restart a new thread if the old one is getting too long.

So I am sorry if I have ruffled feathers here. I for one will still be here reading what I want and posting what I want WHEN I want to but if Betty feels the need to close it down then that's ok too. No one wants her to feel overloaded at all!

Betty, if you'd like, I am more then happy to start a whole new thread and call it some else - maybe something for the new year!

My Gosh...

I can't even believe this is at this state. Why, I don't understand.

Betty and all our friends here...

Betty, we love you and all that you decide to take on or not.

...Sweet lady, friend of ours.
This is a very rough time for you. I, we understand that.
But my friend we cannot walk you through the difficulties if you close the gate.
Please just know we are here for YOU, just as you are here for us.

Always has been that way...Lets continue.

sabria go girl!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I love that show too! Storm Chasers is awesome! I've lived in CA all but 1 1/2 years ago so I've never been in situations before where you need a storm shelter, or a storm radio, or weather on your cell phone. And Fog, OMG I lived in the Central Valley, that stupid valley gets socked in with everything, it sucks. They say it's worse than LA now.

I was thinking that too Jeannine, well said by the way, a different thread named something else on the first of the year. Of course, it will divert back to the wonderful chat that it is now, and in my situation, Dave's Garden is the only way I have to talk to people because I haven't any friends here yet, well, I do now thanks to meeting them here and going to a local RU.

Gita, don't get me wrong, I really like you, but you have to remember some of us have relocated recently across the United States to a place where you know no one, but in order to make a better life for yourself it has to be done. I have hundreds of friends in California, but that's a long ways away and I can't spend every night on the phone. I can't call my girlfriend and say, "Hey, lets go shopping this afternoon!" like I used to. The General Discussion and Chat is perfect for me to meet people, other than the mid south forum, of course.
We all have the same functions and capabilities here. You can always create a topic, game, or whatever to if you're bored with the thread topics, I'm not very inventive so I just chat along with whatever, and if I can't relate I just don't post. I don't know why you feel so angry that you "finally found a topic you can stick your teeth into." Create a topic you can stick your teeth into and I'm sure we would follow.

Glenview, IL

Okay.
Gitagal this one is for you so listen up.

This is Sabrina. I’m Judy’s kid.
Yeah you need to stop being disrespectful to my good friend Betty.
You may well be an outspoken person…
How do you think that posting that, that no one would react. I sure, no that plenty of people are.
Not be offended my butt. Yeah I’ve thought about it… n I am offended. n Betty is not bleeding dry!

Betty started these threads for a reason. People who post, post about there projects, their life, what’s going on, and Betty is there to listen. If you have a problem with it then you can just DEAL WITH IT!

So since I’m not aloud to tell you in a mean way I’m going to tell you in the nicest way I can.

What you said about Betty was totally uncalled for!
You should not have said that n you should be ashamed. You of all people should no about respect.
What you said was DISRESPECTFUL!
I’m 15 and even I know that, that was mean.

Stop being MEAN!
And I mean it.

You get my drift? You Get it? Got it?
GOOD!
