Any thoughts on fixing a lawn in the winter?

Cranford, NJ

We just had our underground oil tank pulled and my front lawn now looks awful. Any suggestions on sprucing it up until the spring? I can't imagine anything would grow now, but any suggestion would be helpful. If nothing, I hope it snows alot this winter...we live in NJ.

I have no idea if you'd be able to seed or sod now in your area--if you're warm enough that the ground doesn't freeze in the winter then maybe you could but someone who lives near you will know for sure. Otherwise you could just put down straw or something over top of it, that way it won't be a mud pit.

hi rcg...
well your probably to cold to do any sort of planting right now to revitalize your lawn. maybe cover the whole area with a nice fine bark mulch and in the spring combine it with a rich organic topsoil with compost and chicken stuff and rototill it all in pack it down and put down some good qulity sod that does well in cold. laying sod goes really quick.. its the prep that takes a bit of time.

or... you might try some winterizer fertilizer it might help the lown a bit but not the bare spots.
good luck!

dont worry about it for now, early spring just after the snow melts and days are warmer use seeds and good top soil rake and let it grow it will only take 3 weeks and you will have green grass I usually use the spot grass it grows quicker
