I forgot to mention, the meat packing co is a small family owned mom and pop outfit. Wonderful people, that's why I've been using their services for so long.

Hey all 2
Thanks for all the good wishes and thoughts. I think he is enjoying the snow. We are originally from Long Island, NY but he was 10 yrs old when we left. We have been in GA for 10 years so he has no driving experience in snow, but he has already seen a bunch of slides and 360s in front of him so he is being cautious. At least, that is what he tells his mother, lol.
Glad to hear health problems are on the mend.
Good info on the dog foods also. Here is a picture of my little guy.
His name is "Yankee" because that is what they call me in my office.

Susan you are doing well with your feeding. Many people assume by assumption that a "meat" diet is better than an established Brand name food source proven by millions of tons of food fed each year. I have seen all foods and have been able to follow their effect on longevity (32 years of practice) and find few that measure up. There are a few that keep that kidney working longer than others but I am closing on comment due to liability and the huge $ that some of these companies have. I recommend only to feed what people who deal with the issues of pet health recommend. And trust those only who are not selling the food at their hospitals. Veterinarians do not need to supplement their income (good ones) by selling food. They should be too busy helping your pet live a long life.
Sad to hear of so many ailments...but happy to hear you and yours are on the mend!
Chris...welcome, I have a GD in Utah with the Air Force. Spoke to her yesterday, she got stuck in a blizzard!! Being raised in S CA, she's learning snow driving quickly.
sofer....glad you're home, thank you for the information.
How can so much happen in a short time LOL
Glad all of to are Okay and So Sorry for all the mishaps, to each and everyone of you that have had them. Glad you are safe now and or Healing. I sound like a dork here, But I have little time to express to each of you by name, hope you forgive me. Lots of love to you.
Welcome Chris, hope you stay with us, we like new comers.
My guy
Thank you Sally & tilly.
Thank you Steve for the compliment on my feeding habits. I worked for a Vet several yrs ago and he educated me on how to switch from one dry food to another. Then I worked at the boarding kennel down the road and it was quite obvious with some dogs as to why it is so important to do it gradually. Especially with the big dogs, DIAHREA CITY!!! YUCK!!! I'm sure some of it was from stress too, but most of it was from the immediate change in the food. The good thing about it though, is the owner was a Vet Tech in Hawaii for 12 yrs before she purchased the kennel and the food she fed was natural and still is.
Chris, Yankee's adorable!

Hey, where did everyone go?
I am home with a whole bunch of family and have been sledding, skiing, making snow men, women, children, dogs, and fish bowls for my winter experience. I also have been snow plowing with my "Dixie Chopper". This all with a head cold that started yesterday.
It is now snowing after a melt yesterday. That is me talking to my new grandaughter 6 mos old. We are making her a tough child by making her stand in a snow man.
Steve, you are so funny, I have to be careful when I laugh as it still hurts to laugh! I love the pic and you're not making your GD tough, you're making her happy! I'm sure she would rather be where the action is instead of in the house watching, I know our DD did when she was that young and same way with our GK's. The more outdoors they enjoy, the less couch potatoes they will be when they grow up! Good for you GP!

She had a ball. She is in that phase of watching everything as her sight is now focused about 10 to 20 ft. She was in that pedestal for over an hour. It has been a fun week.
This is the finished family with all my Daughters members. Leia (myDD) Brent (her hubby), Chloe (the fish in the bowl) and their dog Dutchess.
I had a pretty good feeling she did. That's a wonderful snowpeople and pets family you have there Steve. You're all very talented!^_^

What a great snow family - your DGD is adorable. I hope you enter that picture in the photo contest next year... It's priceless! Glad you're home enjoying family- makes the best kind of holiday.
She is sooooooooo cute and A happy baby I can see.
Love your snow family.
Hope your doing well Susan.
Thank you tilly, I'm feeling better and better every day! Yahoo!!!
Susan
Susan...you sound like you feel better! Glad to hear it.
sofer....I am so impressed! What a great Snow Family. I didn't know you were so creative. And it looked like your GGD was watching every move.
Firm believer in outdoor fun. I raised my boys pretty much on my own and had to learn (and support) all the sports etc. I think the best thing I did for them was take them camping and teach them to fish (after I learned how LOL). They are all 3 avid fishermen and still love the outdoors. And now they're teaching their kids.
Thank you Sally. How are things in Eugene? We're dry and no wind finally.
Susan
Outdoor fun - you can't beat it. With 4 boys we spent alot of time outdoors. We always went camping at the same spot in the Adirondacks, even after we gave the boys a choice - they always wanted to go back to Brown Tract Pond. No motors on the lake - an island to explore with a huge rock to jump off, and bears in the woods. What more could you ask for? LOL
My DH said that his father only ever came to 1 of his sporting events and he swore that was NOT going to happen with his kids. Between soccer, baseball and basketball, we warmed many a bench watching them. Great memories.
Sally and Jan, I conceived our DD while camping. I grew up camping and fishing. After our DD was born in May of '75 we went camping 3 weeks later, so she grew up camping, fishing, horsepacking in the mtns, trailriding, swimming, sailing and skiing. She still loves the outdoors too and she and her DH take the GK's camping and fishing. There's nothing better than the great outdoors!

Hi everyone! I just became a lurker. (Today! :-D)
I have been working hard on my vegetable garden plans and also want to re-vamp our perennial beds this 2009. I hope to exchange ideas, etc on this forum this coming year.
Family issues have kept me away from Dave's Garden pretty much for the last few years, and also from gardening like I want to also.
I am interested in the urban homesteading movement (even though I will not realize it soon), but I am hoping to expand our veggie garden in 2009.
I apologize for not reading this entire thread, but I hope I can fit in somewhere at some point! :-D
Sue
Welcome Sue! Jump in anytime!^_^
Susan
Welcome Sue. Anytime anywhere is okay with us.
Welcome Sue, would love to hear about your veggie garden and this year's plans when you have time to share. Great activity for winter blues.
Hey Steve! What an adorable family pic!!!^_^
Susan
Hi & Welcome Sue! We like Local Lurkers ^_^
There are all types of gardening represented here, and we learn from each other. Specifically, it has been educational to have an understanding of the different limitations imposed by space, time, $$$, and desire (read the last one as "addiction").
Please join us in our common quest for knowledge, friendship, and plant acquisition. We will be having plant swaps as time allows, and there is talk of a PNW round-up this year (a different thread).
Glad to have you here!

Welcome Sue, no lurkers, Just join in. Happy to meet you. Per say LOL
We are a fun bunch. ^_^ Where in Seattle? I work in Lynnwood.
Steve, that is the best portrait I have ever seen, to cool. Glad you are home and enjoying your family. Lots of Hugs.
Guess What???
I did not fine Michale, but I brought home St. Frances. LOL pics later, when I fine his right home.
My little Nome, still riding it out.
Welcome Sue, you'll find this a friendly bunch.
sofer....that is a picture to save. That little one has to see that when she is old enough to appreciate.
Sounds like we've all enjoyed the outdoors. I still have so many memories of camping with my boys, we went to Bass Lake (near Yosemite). Made reservations for 4th of July every year. Camped in a tent. No boats, mostly no tourists, just fishing folks. One of them went back a couple of years ago....said it's smaller than he remembered. LOL
Sofer! Focus!!
Hello, Sue, look forward to hearing about your gardening - I'm the outlying PNWer. But I am ever so glad to have another veggie grower on board.
Happy New Year everyone!
For those of you who like animals and seeds.....hmmmm, does that leave anyone out on this thread - let me think - no, it covers all of us - click on this photo link - all of you will love it! (I found it searching for hellebore seed links) http://www.pineknotfarms.com/baby%20shirt.jpg
Tills, this is especially for you.
He/she passed out!
I completely missed the arrival of 2009.
Chemistry lesson learned: 3 shots espresso consumed within an hour of drinking a small glass of Ice Wine = instant radical stomachache. Remedy: lay down as Kitty has demonstrated & close eyes for 10 hours. or more...a few more.
Funny, Katye.
Did the same thing only with cold meds. and went to bed with the dogs, they do not like fire works. Ester had half of the bed. was a long night.
Love the pic Laurie
Welcome 2009
Please be better than 2008

Laurie..what a wonderful picture....still laughing.
Glad all of you liked it - I just thought "blissed out" - a good way to start the new year - much better than an espresso/white wine tummy ache. I'm sure sofer can offer you a remedy -
Hmmmm, looks like the remains of pigs ears! A terrier's favourite treat! I just wish he would stop hiding the left over in his bed, and then start munching at 4 a.m.
Actually those were the remains of basted rawhide chews. They lasted a long time.
Susan
BASTED?? They baste them? I don't even baste the christmas goose - I go out and rake and just let it get on with it! I'll be d*&%Ned if I am going to start basting the door treats!
