Very exciting indeed. Amazing what a bit of warm and sun can do, I know it would make me feel like blooming too, LOL. Btw are you getting any cold temps down there like some parts of the south are? Looking forward to seeing those big fat blooms soon.
Some blooms from my Fla. gardens.......
hey who gave me the brug at Kassia's RU.... it looks good so far... thank you to whom ever it was
:)
Pat, cold is relative, of course, but it has been pretty chilly today and will be in the 30s tonight. We walked twice today, and I wore a winter jacket and wool hat. The wind was pretty strong, especially by the River. We turned our heat on for about an hour - mainly to give it some run time. I am hoping my brug flowers aren't nipped. They are tucked in a corner next to the house, so they may be ok.
Allison - where do you have your brug during the winter? They are so easy to root from cuttings. If I had more room for them, I'd have a lot of different cultivars.
Stay warm and safe in those frigid temps, y'all!!
wow.... sorry to hear about the heat turn on.... that stinks!... good luck to you with your plants!
about the brug... I wasn't sure how to handle it when fall rolled around... I figured do my best and see how it goes... it's in the room I start all the seedlings in... not too much heat in there... but all the leaves shriveled up and fell off... I started to worry... the stem stayed partially green...now I see new growth forming at the top... not sure if that's a good thing considering it's so early... but I am hoping for the best
still not sure if I should pot it up now... or wait... the container it is in is going to be too small
Allison - I'd go over to the brug forum and ask that question. Those people are very helpful and nice. I've only done cuttings in pots down here, so I can't knowledgeably speak to growing them inside up there.
So far, so good on the blooms; the cold temps don't seem to be bothering them.
Gita on midatlantic who sometimes pops in here does a ton of brugs.
thanks... now if i can only remember who gave it to me
:)
Hi everyone!!!
Oh Louise, I had tons of brugs my first year gardening.. they were so big and gorgeous... and they smelled wonderful... but it was so much work to winterize that I gave up on them... but I still love them... one day maybe... I have daturas that comes back every year...
miss you guys!
Hi Kassia! How great to hear from you! How is the job going??? The brugs have made it through the colder temps we've had the last couple of days and are still in the process of opening. I'll post a shot once they've opened. In the meantime - even though this isn't a bloom - here's a shot of "Seminole Sam's" cousin, "Sunny" that I just finished. He is now hanging on the wall of our breakfast patio area to greet us every morning.
OMG I love HIM!!! He just makes you smile looking at him!!!!^_^
Thanks, Celeste! He was fun to do, but he is pretty large, and that was a challenge. All of these pieces make me laugh!
Oh Louise, Sunny is really nice! I love it!!!! the job is great... I am doing well, and on my own! still scary a bit but I am a little more secure... it is really crazy there some days. The nurses I work with are nice 90% of the time. So far I think only one I managed not to like me... she barely speaks with to me, but we don't work together all the time so it's ok - but the days she is there is a bit akward - I don't take personally because she has done what she did to me to everyone else, so it's ok. I am amazed at how much lateral violence exist among nurses. Some days it can be ugly... my co-workers are nice to me, but some of them are on each others face... then things calm down and we kind of work together again... I think that is going to be my thesis when I get to the master's program. I wish I could do something to change that... yeah, I dream big!
Love Mr. Sunny face! He looks like Florida.
Gorgeous, Louise! When can I order one?!
Thanks, you guys! How nice that you see the fun in him as I do. Kassia - I think you are very wise not to take the nurses' tension personally. I think there must be a lot of pressure that is internalized and comes out in inappropriate ways. Mistakes can be deadly and knowing that must contribute to some tension. You just keep being you and all will be well. I'd love to have you as my nurse!!
Victor - I've only seen the one "Sunny" so far. Thanks for your nice thoughts!
Robin - thanks! He does feel quite at home on my sunny patio watching over the pole beans and new broccoli shoots.
It was really cute today......we saw one of our "regular" cats who visit the garden bird baths every day, stop mid-slurp and look up at Sunny for a minute or two before resuming his sipping. Then he found a spot where he could hide from the birds at the feeders to pounce on them. We had to draw the line and shoo him away nicely.
My pleasure to be your nurse!!!! you would laugh! that I promise! today one of my patients introduced me to her daughter as "my lovely nurse" ... such a cute woman... there is no way not to be friendly to her...
yeah, sunny would be great around here at this time... maybe he could bring spring sooner!
I'm sure you'll shine, Kass.
I agree, if I ever need anurse, I'll let you know, Kassia.
Love 'Sunny' - he just makes me smile.
Thanks, Jan! Kassia - I could have used you today - I woke up with the worst case of vertigo I've ever had. The world has been spinning on me all day. The dramamine is usually effective to tame it immediately, but not so much today. I'm a bit better now and am sitting up at least. I just propped up in bed and watched the Inauguration all day. I did have to cancel a medical procedure though. Hank came in to tell me that our brugs have opened....he took a couple of shots so I could show you.......aren't they pretty?
Oh, Louise--I'm so sorry! I can't think of much worse than vertigo--hope you are feeling better soon! Love the brugs---beautiful colors. Glad the cold didn't bother them!
Those brugs are beautiful!!!!! I've had no luck in getting one to bloom...ever!
Hope you feel better soon.^_^
Thanks, Robin and Celeste! The really cold temps will be tonight and tomorrow, with frost possible tomorrow, so I'm hoping these will make it through.
Celeste - my brug in the front of the house hasn't bloomed since we've been here, but it had blooms when we arrived. I think that the lack of direct sun during the winter months in its location is the cause. The one I showed you gets a lot of sun year around. Your bloom problem may be because it needs more sun or possibly more fertilizer. They need to be fed very frequently. I wish yours would bloom for you, because the blooms are so unique and so pretty.
beautiful flowers.... hope you feel better soon
Donnybrook, I would be dizzy too with those brugs dancing around my garden. Feel better soon. And stay warm. Low blow! Patti
Oh Louise, sorry to hear that... I never had it, but I had a friend that ended up in the hospital several times... and finally I took her to a doctor and he discovered that she had such a small ear canal and it was totally clogged... I could not believe it... and she is one of those people that does not put anything in her ear... cleans only the outside... it just makes me wonder...
I am so sick ... can't stop vomiting since 2:30 am... went out for dinner in a chinese/thai/vietnamese restaurant last night and it has been horrible ... cramping and oh I hate to vomit so bad... really not good...
sorry but nurses talk about all these things sometimes when we are having lunch! yeah we are totally weird sometimes... and usually I don't mind... but when it happens to me its just drives me mad... and my heart goes out to my pts and how they feel awful when they have this... and to all the wonderful people that deals with chemo... really awful... oh they have my prayers... horrible...
wow bad week.... hope you feel better too Kassia
Feel better, Kass. I had a terrible stomach virus a few weeks back. I sympathize.
Yes it's going around, DGD has it but now they are questioning if it's from P.butter crackers she always eats!!
Louise and Kassia, hope you both feel better soon.
My mom started getting vertigo and they put her on some meds that made her vomit and she NEVER threw up in her 83 years!!! One day of throwing up wiped her out for 3 days.
Hi! it is a stomach flu... this is the second time I have in my life... last time I had the flu was in 1992... yeah I remember...
Thanks for the good wishes... one of my co-workers is also out today with the same thing... I could not eat anything yet... no desire to eat... that is new to me!
Feel better soon Kassia!!
I hope you two feel better very soon. Worst type of feeling sick is nausea, tossing your cookies is the worst. Hope you are better by now.
I have vertigo from time to time also. The spins I call it. Like being on a constant merry go round or having partied too much without the fun part. Those brugs are very pretty and I hope you can get out to see them soon. Get better both of you.
Thanks so much, everyone! Kassia, I'm so sorry to hear you've got a stomach flu!! That's just the worst! I'm a bit better this afternoon and hope it holds. This morning my world was still upside down. Time to go lie down again........
Sorry - forgot to send you wishes for feeling better, Louise. Feel better! My wife gets vertigo - not fun.
Hi! I a bit better... can't stand the smell of food...oh this is horrible!!!! but I am trying to be ok, I have to work 7-3 tomorrow morning.
it's ok.. I have a new gardening book ... Readers Digest New Illustrated guide to gardening... I like it... have learned a lot of things already... got as a bargain price at Barnes and Nobles...
