What a great idea to use the paperwhites for hair. I love the job you have done with the painting, so neat. He is just as cute as can be. A very nice present indeed, as is your pic of pretty petunias. Keep posting that color you have down there, we are expecting more white stuff tomorrow and can certainly use the pretty colors to get us through the rotten grey ice and snow days.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Celeste! The best part of being down here for the winter is being able to keep the fresh produce coming! Here's my new wave of green beans starting off..... I keep planting more seeds to keep them coming for awhile....

Thanks, Pat! More white stuff? Oh my goodness....you guys are all getting hit so hard. Hang in there!

Oh, by the way, everyone.......I had intended to get some Christmas cards sent to those of you whose addresses I have. I'm so sorry that we never got to the Christmas cards this year. Molly had some issues and we had to abandon a few things. There's really no excuse being retired, but it is what it is and I am sorry!!

Seminole Sam is quite the handsome dude. A very nice present indeed.
Fresh beans - drool, drool. Everything looks so appetizing!
You could send some fresh beans up to Sophie. LOL
How's Molly doing?
The colors are so refreshing.!!
Jan

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Jan. Molly is doing better, but it is a hard task to balance the necessary prednisone to address the neurological events and the food obsession when she is on it. We had gotten her completely off the nasty stuff and she lost the use of her back leg and we all had a horrid night and day with her. She was put back on it and we are now trying to balance it all. She is doing much better over all, thanks to our wonderful NH vet who is treating her from afar - with some pretty good success. We had to send him samples of blood, fur, saliva and urine, and he was able to use those in the BICOM machine that reads cell structure to diagnose where she is and what level of drug she needs etc. Amazing technology. We didn't like the vet down here that has that equipment in Naples. Molly vomited the morning after she gave her a new group of meds. I called her office and asked to speak to her after explaining the vomiting, etc. That was on a Tuesday morning; the return call was not until Friday late afternoon. End of story. Totally unacceptable and unprofessional. Molly is such a trooper and is still wagging her tail and generally feeling good and happy. We're trying to determine the lowest level of the pred. that will control the neurological episodes for the most part. I think we've gotten there, but time will tell.

aaaawwwww the poor baby....hope things get better for Molly

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Best to Molly! Great shots, Louise. More snow here tomorrow.

Thanks, Allison and Victor! All of us who feel that our pets are part of the family know just how it feels when things aren't right for them. I know that you both love your pets too and know just what I mean!

Best wishes for finding that balance for Molly!! I hope she continues to do well...love the purple coat!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Celeste! She unfortunately has to wear a "shirt" to keep her from biting a place on her side. Her wardrobe is starkly simple and functional in contrast to Sophie's "diamonds". LOL

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Too bad about the vet in Fla., but glad the one at home goes above and beyond the call. That one is a keeper. Best wishes for Molly.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks so much, Jan! Yes, the NH vet is exceptional....he calls us frequently to see how she is doing. On top of that, he is very intelligent and a super nice person as well. His wife is a vet as well, and they are really super. If anyone needs a tough diagnosis that seems to have alluded vets, he's the one who can likely get to the bottom of it, painlessly no less. He sure saved Molly's life before we left to come down. He combines conventional vet practices with homeopathic knowledge and amazing diagnostic technology.

Hi Louise
I've been lurking everybody, nice posts of the posies.
Seminole Sam is great.
I am also looking for terrecotta pots
even though they take more care than fiber glass.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Hi JoAnn. Glad you like Sam! LOL

I wish I could tell you of a good source of pots - I still haven't found many. We went to a usually pretty expensive garden center between here and Naples and I found a "blank" very large Sun with a face like Sam's on it. I also found a blank moon with a face on it and 2 more Sams - one the same size (my son wants one for his patio) and a much smaller one. Those were real finds, so I splurged, thinking I'd not find them again.

I have started "Sunny"; he's so big it's very hard to position him so that I can do the fine line stuff well. I agree with you that the terra cotta is risky for breakage. I'm dreading the day I finish the many hours it takes to do one of the pots and then drop it. Argggghhh.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Good job on Sam.

How old is Molly?

Thomaston, CT

Nice to hear Molly is doing better--my dale seems to be OK after the trauma of his surgery (only his paw, but he's a big baby)! Can't believe that FL vet waited so long to call---our vet is very good about that. The beans looked super--like Pixie I bought some yesterday---but they don't taste garden fresh! Found a book in the library, Louise, that takes place in southern Fl---don't know if you like mysteries, but the book (his/her second) is called "Fear Death by Water" by Kinley Roby. The 1st book is "Death in a Hammock", but I haven't read that one.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Jen, Molly is 15 and a half. Our NH vet thinks she has a couple more years in her given how strong she is generally. She's sure been through a lot and keeps bouncing back. The neurological condition is a rare one called "Bichon dyskinesia". It's not fatal, just unsettling when she can't control her back legs or has a brief seizure-like event. They aren't really seizures because she doesn't lose consciousness and they last only a second or two. The prednisone controls the condition for the most part.

Marilynn - I'm happy to hear that your 'dale is doing better and has recovered from his surgery.

I do like mysteries and I also enjoy reading books set in south Florida. I will keep my eye out for those two. Thanks for the suggestion! I like to read Carl Hiaisen's books. They are mostly satire/comedies on the various types of people & issues one encounters in south Fla. The writer is a reporter/writer for the Miami Herald, I believe. I also read some Randy White books. He lives not far from us, and I first read one just out of curiosity. They can be a bit gory for me, but I've read a few and picked up a couple more at a used book store recently.

Thomaston, CT

Sounds like you'll like Robey's books---a little gory, but not too much, & heavy on animals---which is what I liked.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Sounds interesting, Marilyn. Please tell me the animals don't get hurt! I can't read or see things where animals get hurt or die.

Thomaston, CT

No--the animals are fine---I can't read books where something happens to the animals---my mother ruined me with Bambi!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Robin I agree with that. Anyone around my age was devastated by Old Yella and Bambi. Who knew Disney would traumatize a whole generation.

Thomaston, CT

For sure---Oh--Louise--just remembered reading in book 2 a reference to an animal shot in book 1---so that's off the list.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Hi Folks! I just read the part here about animals in books and stuff. I'm with you all. "Sounder" broke my heart. I was unaware about "Bambi" when I rented the film for my son when he was little. I bawled my eyes out over that movie. I still can't watch it.

Old Yella and I am not sentimental but still cant watch it.

Cool, huh, Victor? About 2 weeks ago both of the "stems" were lying on the ground because they were so top-heavy. I velcroed them to a metal stake and now they're blooming. Such excitement!! LOL This plant was a 4 inch cutting when we left here last April.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Great to see them progress, isn't it?
