How do I always miss the bus? did not know about this little gathering! So............................I will just jump right in!
Easy to please, I love all colors! Living room is wine and beige. Kitchen is Bright Yellow sunflowers and green. My rooms are overstuffed and comfortable...for me. that is how I like it. Do not like the minimalist way of decorating. lol
My kids tell me I have more plant stands than seats. My husband of 40 years calls it all just junk. And of course, he has seen all my creative bursts, moods and projects.
Have three kids, 40 y.o. dtr., 36 y.o. son, and 20 y.o. son. and one grandababy 12 y.o from my dtr.( who is also expecting her second in July.) But that is another story for another day.
No pets at present time, but have had dogs, both large and small. Seventeen parrots at one time, ducks, chickens, turtles, tropical fish, etc.
Have sewed since a teen, done knit/crochet, painted, bead work, ceramics,
Love to read. Fav authors are Dean Koontz, Stephen King, James Patterson, etc.
Just love all music from Three Tenors....to Elvis......Temptations.....except hip-hop! Spiritual music holds a special place in my heart.
Love computers, repair and operate, currently have three. Why?
Just recently, upon medical retirement started back gardening. Love tropicals, perennials, brugs and passiflora(thanks to jordankittyjo) such an enableer!
Went thru deep depression when first stopped work, but found Dg, which gave me something else to do. lol Since then I have been filling days with tutoring and babysitting, and of course Bailey's! lol
Love receiving boxes, don't care what's in them....I love everything! I point to items, to anyone who will listen....I say," my garden buddy sent me that!"
Edit to say: How could I forget? Collect tiny shoes (serious shoe fetish) and just love tigers!

§Sweet Interruptions- List of Likes and Dislikes§
Originally from Vancouver Wa, been living in Columbia SC for 20+ years. Come from a long line of gardeners, and I have the obsession. I love to travel internationally and domestically (Youth Hostels and cheap hotels/camping/couch surfing - 5 stars are wasted on me), and university professor hubby of 25 years allows us to indulge that at least yearly. I am a computer geek and design and maintain websites. My first love is Nature and Boy Scouting (history and present day) and spend most of my time volunteering for that. I love taking risks and believe that life is to be lived in Big Bites and that you only live once, so better be nice to others because my grandma and my dad are watching me from heaven and one day I will have to 'splain myself to them. And she always talked directly to the Big Guy.
I love to know the botanical names of plants and how they all are related. I am a big fan of live frogs, turtles, snakes, lizards, and creepy crawlies, except spiders. I think that bugs are cool. I love teaching children (retired school teacher) about nature and how we are stewards of it all.
In My Garden: I love perennial flowers, especially daylilies, any daisy-looking type (Rudbeckias, Gaillardias, Echinaceas), and best passalong plants (and I like to passalong, too), Siberian and Louisiana Iris, Lilies, crocosmias, sages and agastaches. I like reseeding or easy annuals that are unusual or heirloom. I love trading on the tradelists and have met some wonderful gardeners though that venue.
I prefer plants over seeds unless they are heirlooms, then only specific kinds because I have more here than I can plant (I have wayy too many seeds). I love herbs and cook with them, I love birdhouses and feeders. I have a constant battle with squirrels (my yellow lab is my partner in that). I have a Tuck it Here attitude and follow the adage of "Kill it 3 times and it is not for you" and "Thrive where you are planted or die there". I do not like to coddle plants, but I love to research them to make sure that they are where they should be. I use pots a lot to be able to adjust microclimates of light and moisture until I learn where the plant is happiest.
In trees and shrubs, I love Japanese Maples, witch hazels or other bloomers. I am experimenting with Hypertufa and rock gardens soon. I like sedums and hen-n-chicks types.
I like Garden art (edgy, not cutesy), wind chimes (handmade ones, especially), fountains and am planning a boggy spot with a little self-contained "pond" in a container. I sort of collect realistic-looking frogs and turtles (prefer traditional or realistic or ethnic), with the occasional really ugly one thrown in to upset the balance.
Really dislike geese, cute fairies, and gnomes (I am thinking about putting in a Gnome Death Section in a corner of my garden- different vignettes of gnomes meeting their demise), anything cute or wif big eyes, and current fads - I have a different drummer
I lean towards Asian Eclectic and Monty Python.
Colors: Jewel Tones, reds, blues, with bright yellows odd combos. Leafy green colors to blend in the garden- weathered, mossy.
Scents: Spicy or herbals, Citrus. Do not usually wear perfume, never use candles.
Décor –Very Eclectic- love ethnic- African, Australian, Asian, Northwest American Indian/Mayan
Pets:Yellow lab, 3 cats, various snakes and lizards and the occasional frog. All subject to change without notice.
Foods:Good Coffee beans! Authentic Asian, Thai, Cajun, and love the associated spices and herbs. Any Spicy hot foods. Very very Dark Chocolate! Good toffee. Lemon, Mint, Cinnamon (really hot), hate artificial banana or strawberry, love lime and citrus. Sugar free candies and mints are a staple with me.
Collections: Old Scouting stuff (books, uniform parts, kitsch), Asian Ikebana stuff or figures, Buddha or Shinto things for the garden , Realistic or edgy Frogs and Turtles, Fox and Quail (Woodbadge Scouting critters), birds.
Hobbies/Crafts: Have too many craft items, now. Polymer clay, paper arts w/Rubber Stamps, recycling things for new uses.
Music: Classical, Celtic, have huge collection and never enough time listen. Would prefer other items than music, as I download all that I need.
Favorite Store: Kohls, Chicos, Norm Thompson, Goodwill, Dollar Tree, craft stores, cruising the street the eveining before trash day, dumpster diving
Favorite local nurseries:
Wingards Nursery http://www.wingardsnursery.com and
Woodley's garden Center http://www.woodleygardencenter.com/
plus Lowes/HomeDepot for sales stuff and dirt stuff
Best Movies Ever : McClintock with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, The Ref, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Madagascar, original first 3 Star Wars (with Harrison Ford), Braveheart and anything with Mel in it, same for Harrison.
Favorite Holiday: Thanksgiving because it is not commercial!

Wow, what a long list and a lot of interesting people! Nice to 'meet' all of you. I have Multiple Sclerosis; I was diagnosed when I was 25 so it has really determined a lot about how my life turned out. For instance, my house is wheelchair accessible, the decor is scratch and dent. I can't get up and pick up the dirty socks which drives me crazy. I love cobalt blue and orange (I'm looking for the right word -- tangerine? coral? poppy? rust?) especially together. Periwinkle and geum. I like colors (but not yellow).
The problem is our tiny little house is full up with STUFF and returning people (daughter home from college, step-son with no place to stay, I am a pack rat).
I have lived in the Boston area most of my life, I actually love Boston but there are too many #$%I#$% stairs and curbs here. When my parents die we'll probably move somewhere flatter. I have two bio-daughters and four step-kids and two DILs and 3 grand-kids. I married the love of my life (match.com also) in 2000. I love music - most all except not popular or C & W, i.e. I like classic jazz and classical. Clear as mud, right?
Oh, and I'm Carrie, May 25. My favorite thing in the world is See's Bridge Mix (candy) and second to that is probably snickers or anything with lots of stuff in it, like nuts and coconut and raisins and chocolate chips. I like gold-colored jewelry, not silver-colored , and I don't care if it's real gold. I like dangly earrings and used to have a million pairs of shoes until my feet turned weird and I had to switch to orthopedic-type shoes. I love sweaters; I wear wool from September until May. We have no pets -- kids have asthma. I don't like fairies or gnomes or mushrooms - sorry - but I like flowers and easy house plants. Please don't worry about my birthday this year - let me get used to this and then we'll see if I can keep up.
Happy Birthday Carrie, and you forgot to mention all the articles you have published here on Daves! Nice job!
Linda Kay
Thank you, Linda. Yep, I guess they show something of my personality, eh?
Happy Birthday Carrie and I, too, have enjoyed your writing..
THANK YOU! Hey, this thread isn't supposed to be about me. I used to go to summer camp in Hillsboro NH, I think.

I've been reading all the info on everyone, and seems I am the laziest one around. I was born in Wausau, Wi. moved to Minneapolis, Mn. when in 3rd grade and then in 1959 I moved to Ca.. with my parents and kid sister. Can't believe I've lived in Ca. 50 years now. My real name is Margaret but have been called Peggy all my life. Use Margaret on all legal papers. When I found myself learning about the computer 5 years ago I start spelling my name Pegi. I needed a new name to go with my new computer. I've been married 49 years to the same man, which wasn't very easy at times. I was a stay at home mom. Had 2 sons, youngest is now deceased. Oldest one has no intentions of getting married so my grandchildren, there are 6 come from my 2 step-daughters. I also have 2 great granddaughters who live in Florida and a great grandson who lives in Arizona.
I have a Precious Moments collection and also collect Jewel Tea dishes, Autumm Leaves which my mother said she started buying from the jewel tea man when she was pregant with me. That means almost 75 years. I love angels and gnomes. My favorite color is blue, even had the ouside of the house painted a misson blue with white trim. My kitchen is a very light green, going to repaint soon and color is called "celery bunch" Just had a new counter top put in last year and the rest of the kitchen is decorated with apples. If there is anything with an apple on it it will end up in my kitchen. My bathroom is light pink, living room has one wall paneled and the others are an off white. I have 2 dogs, a 3 year old mini schnauzer names Samantha (Sami) and a 7 year old part terrier and part pom. named Molly-Bea. I like angels and ceramic cats, decided I didn't need so many dust collecters. My favorite music are the oldies but goodies from the 50's. I do love classical music, started when I first heard Mario Lanza sing "Be My Love". I love Mexican food the best, but most food I see I eat. I love chocolate, only the milk kind-most fattening. I will eat bing cherries, but don't put them in pie, etc. because then I hate them. I crochet, knit a little, do several kinds of crafts. I love to read, garden and will do anything to get out of cooking and housework. No one will do the work for me so I'm stuck with it. Since I learned how to play on the computer I've gotten addicted to it. My favorite stores to shop is thrift stores and Wal-Mart. We've done a lot of improvement since we bought this house 10 years ago so we spent a lot of time at Lowe's. Good thing they have a nursery because you will find me checking out all the plants. If I think of something else I'll just have to edit this.
Hello - here are my likes / dislikes:
Colour - burgundy, white, forest green
Music - learning to play the piano, and love the oldies (I have an 1872 piano - love it!)
Plants - Daturas, Brugmansias (growing one for the 1st time this year, from a DG'ers cutting)
Love windchimes and any garden art (especially frogs & butterflies), and garden lights.
Now have a "secret garden" that I'd like to make more "mysterious & private".
Scents - lilac & lavender - Alergic to strong scents
Foods - citrus (Love Lemon!), asian
Gardening - herbs, xeriscaping, rock gardens (haven't got one yet, but planning an alpine one)
Collecting - fairies for my garden (prefer fairies to gnomes), teacups/saucers (for indoor) lol
Want to put a "face" on my fir tree - saw them before, but can't find them lately.......
Store - love thrift stores (Salvation Army) and the Habitat ReStore (used to work there)
Dislike Value Village - they take more for their "administrative costs" than they give to their charity..
Holidays - Christmas & summer ones so I can spend more time in the GARDEN!!
Love birthdays, others & mine - time to celebrate!!
Fav plants - Datura, Dahlias, Hibiscus
I have been married to the Bestest DH in the world (for me, anyway lol) for the past 10 years (2nd marriage)
btw - I have a small home, and same for my yard...
I may add other thoughts, as I'm thinking through my likes / dislikes.
Susan
