My Angel Trumpet Vine is droping leaves

Hollywood, FL

and looks like bare twigs with clusters of leaves on the ends.. I've watered it to a fare-thee-well and it's not looking any better. All along the stalks are tiny white bumps which I thought were new growth but not so far. Should I cut it back really far or what?

Any chance you might have overwatered it? Dropping leaves can be a symptom of that and it sounds like you've maybe watered it quite a lot so without seeing it that would be my first suspect. If you could post a picture or two that might help too if you don't think it could have been the watering. A closeup of the white bumps might be helpful on the chance that they're bugs of some sort--from your description I wonder if they might be mealybugs or some sort of scale which could also cause the symptoms you described if you've got a bad infestation. Also can you clarify what kind of plant it is? I've never heard of angel trumpet vine...I know of Angel Trumpet which is Brugmansia (but it's not a vine) and Campsis radicans which is trumpet vine (but I've never heard angel used as part of its name).

Thank you so much for trying to help. I will certainly take a picture or 2 and get back to you. the reason I'm calling it an Angel Trumpet Vine is that's what the nursery tagged it as, I did a search for that name on this site and did find some others. I'll get those pics and thanks again.
Best,
Linda
