Oh, sooo pretty! I have Buckeye Colossal but it's hanging on by a thread/leaf/stem!%*#@% I'm surprised it's not totally dead ... just found it a few days ago shoved to the back of the plant stand.

This is a picture from last spring.

Lin--can you save the leaf and set it? If not, I'll be glad to do it and send you a plant come spring--mine is coming back nicely, and continues to bloom

(Zone 1)

LOL, yeah ... I could take a leaf, maybe I will take the time and do that today! I am just the laziest gardener, both indoors and out ... think I will do something and then forget! Maybe I will go take a leaf right now!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Good--that's one worth saving! ^_^

Oh, that is gorgeous! I have C. 'Kazu' just finishing up a bloom cycle. I will post a picture but it's not pretty ... look at those brown leaf edges. I have so many that need repotting, I will get around to it one of these days. My Chirita's are getting long necks, I am such a bad plant mom!

Before long, instead of being known as plantladylin it will be plantkillerlin.

Oh Lin--I see you are a fan of early American primitive--me too---just trim that leaf...beautiful plant! It can't be too unhappy, IT'S BLOOMING! LOL

plantkillerlin!!! ^_^
That Kazu is fine...a little grooming and repotting and it'll better than new. I love the pottery/stoneware pitchers!

Hi! most of you know, I'm a resident lurker here, and I love the pictures of all your beautiful blooms. I love the gessies but I'm not having a lot of luck growing them. I keep trying and eventually I will get it right.

This is off topic but I thought some of you might like to make desk calendars for co-workers, friends or family with your pictures. Here is link to a site that you can use your pictures and make desk calendars. It uses a CD Jewel case as an easel. They are very easy to make and turn out great. I bought 10 cases at Wally world for $4.40.

Lou.........thanks so much...........I have seen people do this.............how much fun! My family did this one year with each person' s birthday month featuring picture or pictures of that person..............turned out great.......

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Great idea! What does it mean..create a "printable" monthy calender? Do you have to print the pages out yourself?

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

Yes, you print the pages and cut out the calendar page for each month. There will be a different picture at the top of each month. You take the top of the jewel case off and turn it upsidedown and reattach it. It then is at an angle leaning backward for your desk. The calendar pages are stored in the deep part of the case and the single month is displayed on the shallow side. The pages are not attached to one another, so you take one month out and replace it with the next month. Lou

That is different from the one my sister in law made. Hers was all put together (binding) with each person a month featured.........

While I am here I am posting........Happy Snappy..........again from the game thread

Happy Snappy is a beautiful color. Is it that vibrant in person?

Thanks, Lou...

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Goldleaf......it is more vibrant and intense than the picture. That is why I said the name really fits her.........

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

I really like it. The color is fantastic.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am putting down a leaf for you in the morning..........been trimming on plants as I repot............your name is on it!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Yay! That snappy color does make me very happy.

As you are repotting all your streps, are you putting leaves down?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I can't............there are too many but I am trying to put down leaves of the ones I really like. Sometimes I have to look them up on Streptocarpus Info Site as I have never even heard of some of these. Don't forget I also ordered leaves from Kathysstreps on ebay and they are also having babies.........
I had to look up Aly's Autumn, Mollie Howell, Upfield's Coral Dream and on and on............can't tell by the strep site.........

Highland, IL

Oh all of your pictures are wonderful!! I too lurk, read and learn so much from all of you!!! Thanks for letting me be nosy!!! I usually do not have a lot of luck with leaves, but I'm giving it another shot now, they have been down for almost a month, and haven't died yet!!! YIIPPIIEEE!! LOL

How could anyone wonder why I grow these speciosas from tubers and seeds. This is sinningia speciosa 'Nocturnal' in her glory!

Hey VA_Wild_Rose: Long time no see! Good to have you back on the AV forum! Wow! I love that Chirita gemella ... I've never heard of that one, love the rounded growth habit and the pretty bloom! And, Codonanthe Paula is sooo pretty! I had that one once, cute little plant even when not in bloom.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Glad to see you posting pics of the wonderful plants and blooms, WildRose!

I have a Codonanthes 'Paula'............I might just take a picture for you..........she is outside with her brothers, sisters and cousins!
oooh , she needs a good bath in the kitchen sink so her leaves shine..........
Nor sure but I think the full name is Codonanthes devosiana 'Paula'

Today was a good plant day-- I not only got my first strep bloom ever- but rescued some AV's from Lowes at a VERY good price!! I have been wanting to get some more AV's, have lots of leaves down-- but was able to get these optimara mini's for $1 ea--they are all in decorative pots--so even if I can't save them (and I intend to try) the little pots are worth the $. wish me luck and any and all advice is welcome ^_^

Congratulations! Very pretty! And nice pic also!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Good find, but you have a major recovery effort ahead of you. I would start by repotting, removing as much of the old soil as possible, and removing all except a couple of layers of leaves. After you repot, I would bag them and keep a close eye on them til they perk up.. Make sure you isolate them from your plants...just in case.

(Zone 1)

Gail: Lovely Codonanthus you have too! Both you and Va_Wild_Rose need to add your pic's to Plant Files: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/119270/

Hillbilly_Gran: Congrats on your first Strep bloom! She sure is pretty! What a great deal you found at Lowe's! Our Lowe's never carries AV's for some reason. Can you post a photo of the little ceramic pots? What a deal ... those pots alone would be worth more than a buck each!

Oh, Hillbilly_Gran, I owe you a huge apology and a huge Thank You! I received the Remusatia seeds when I was sick with the flu. I totally forgot to d-mail you that I got them! I am so sorry ... and I do thank you so much for them. I haven't sown them yet but sure look forward to getting that done, maybe tomorrow! I hope they will be germinate quickly and maybe be large enough to plant in the yard in spring. They will make a nice addition to my garden!

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Here ya go Lin-- I got 4 of the little flowered ones and the other 8 are like the tan one on the left. Good luck with the remusatia--surface sow and dome them.

(Zone 1)

Oh my goodness ... those are the cutest little pots! I love them! I sure wish our Lowe's or Home Depot had those, they are perfect for little plants!

Thanks for the tips on sowing the Remusatia seeds!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I need to clean her up before going to plant files, Lin.

You really have a job ahead of you cleaning up the african violets..........phoebe's advice is perfecto!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi Lin and Gail....

Yes... I'm still here and still have mostly gessies. They went through an awful period of neglect, after which time I decided if they were still alive, I was meant to have them and take care of them properly.

Gail, your Codonathes looks better than mine. I too like the small habit of them Lin!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

It has taken me a year to just get it this far................it is a slow grower for sure, WildRose.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Why thank you Miss Gail...I know a lot more about violets than cameras-lol
