My durban canna(group) is approximately 5 feet around and 8-9 feet tall. It has beautiful leaves on it, and although I have had it for 5 years, it has never bloomed. Is this normal? I have tried everything I can think of and nothing seems to help. I feed it with deep feeding formula once a week and with systemic rose food once a month just like I do all of my other heavy feeding plants, but still no blooms. Anyone have any suggestions or will I just have to go on wishing my heart out for blooms that never happen?

durban canna
Wonder if they are planted too deeply...should be about 5" Dee
Are they planted in the sun or shade? I've found that cannas bloom better in the sun. Linda
No, they are only planted about 4 inches deep and in full sun. I even dug up a bunch and gave them to my new neighbor and her's didn't bloom either. Any more suggestions? I need a lot of help with this one.

This one has me stumped! Do they look like something is eating the tops off? Or boring into the bud before it has a chance to show itself!

Hi,
I asked someone that knows more than me about canna and she thought too much fertilizer and also they take longer to bloom that others. You do seem to have a long growing season. I don't have anymore ideas but if you want to trade let me know because I like the foliage part myself.
Are they in a well drained spot, and are they getting enough water? Also, how close are they planted, and do you have any other plants with them that have extensive root systems?

I would say too much fertilizer..I never feed my Cannas..
