Eclecticuno, thanks for iding my anthurium.
Clemen, thanks for your christmas cactus tip, mine are in bud but not all the cactus. Boy that photo looks so lonely, I remember now how it was when I lived in Vermont. Diffinately makes me appreciate SW Florida.
Here is a Hoya mindorensis to cheer you up, one of my favorite hoya.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Good morning guys!
Clemen, my trick to make you come worked, haha! It's good to have you here, this IS the friendliest DG group isn't it?

From Brazil: looks like a ZZ plant on steroids....is it?

Sunshinesw, thanks for the new thread.
You are correct, the white flower is a white plumbago.
Good find on your new anthurium podophylum, I have never seen it before. It has very interesting leaves.
That is a very nice color on your favorite hoya

Dutchlady, Rj is right on the ID, it is a abution Chinese Lantern. It has survived two winters so far planted on the NW side of my house.

LIliMerci, your pink flowering maple is very pretty.

robcorrea, is your ivy on the rock wall picture taken in San Diego or Brazil ? (very nice)

Clemen, good luck on getting your bromeliads to bloom. I went to check on my Christmas cactus and found out that they are all the same color (pink). I will have to get a white and red. Yours are beautiful and full. (I love the plant stand in the 2nd. picture)

Rj, the jury is still out whether I am getting blooms or new leaves on the Blue Sage. I will have to wait for color to show before I can tell for sure. This is the first time blooming plant for me, (very excited)
I have tried the fruit method on my Medinilla several times without any luck, and on a few bromeliads but did not use a plastic trash bag. I used one of those big brown paper sleeves that plants are usually shipped in. I will definately use the trash bag next, I do so want that plant to bloom.

Rita,
Believe it or not...the ivy is nothing but photos! And of course....in Brazil...they start off in the ground, the regular size we're used to seeing...then as they climb and reach for the light, they turn into giants!

What does a blue sage look like? I have heard you mention it before but not sure what that looks like.

I checked the other day and my christmas cactus is just now starting to get little blooms on its tips. I imagine it will be a couple of weeks before they start to open; they are small yet. It was really pretty last year. It is a pink one also.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr and I see that Robertita tricked me into coming here??? ha ha ha, I was already lurking here for a while, just was not posting, you trouble maker Ipanema girl!!!!!

Well I spoke to mom today about making the bromeliads bloom, and she suggested placing a plastic bag and an apple inside of the plants. She said to leave it closed until I could see the blooms, just wondering though. My mama used to belong to the Nicaraguan Gardening Society in my country of birth, she grew all sorts of beautiful things, I can remember as a child growing up there, her specialties were cactis, succulents, orchids and of course tropicals were a given there, having the weather year round. Sad to say, she has lost all interest in plants now. She lives in NYC and I hope I do not get to be like her in my old age. Plants make me sooooooo soooooo happy!

Eranthemum pulchellum, Eranthemum nervosum

Rita, if the top ends are shooting left, right and up then it's going to bloom.

Randy, it appears Ike was never in your neighborhood. You definitely have something magic in your fingers. We had a near freeze last night and everything is all curled up this morning. Soon they will just wilt to the ground. Wish I had Rita's hoop houses.

PK

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, mabe we can work on the hoop house thing. I've been collecting.

Yes, the plants really recovered well. In fact it's because of Ike trimming the tree tops that allows more sunlight in the garden.
Was nippy here last night too, I moved the young and tenders into the greenhouse. I put the cow trough in the green house too, like your pond...and now it has mosquito fish and water plants. It really keeps the green house nice and humid!

I'm debating whether to pull the varigated banana out of the ground and into a pot. the leaves are getting brownish..in fact that's why I logged on to read the rap sheet on it's goodie list.

The brugs sure are liking this weather!

Rj, thanks, I had to run out to the GH to check one more time. I am pretty sure that I have buds forming (big smile). It will be so nice to have some blooms to look forward to on these cold days.
I also have one of those purple allamanda vine Patty gave to me, but I will not be needing a ladder for quite a while. Those are very good pictures, thanks.
I'm trying to show the top end of the Blue Sage.

LouC, the hoop houses are great except for the heating bills. It was a pleasure going in there this morning and smelling the lovely fragrance from the lemon blossoms and Brugs..

Solanum Seaforanthum...off the top of my head for spelling

Never seen such a thing. It's beautiful. I just looked it up. Does it have prickly red tomato looking fruit?
Solanum sisymbriifolium?

What's to the right of it?

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Hey I have bruggies from RJ's too!!!

Golden, MS(Zone 7a)

RJ, I think the pic of the blue flowers posted at 9:41pm today are the bluest I have ever seen. What exactly is it? Lee

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

.Should have mentioned that is Broncbuster and Sheila_Ft.Worth with me in the middle. That was last Saturday when they came to help put the garden to bed. Frostweed and pbtxGarland was here as well.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

I adore blue flowers! only wish brugs could be blue too!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, the Solanum seaforthianum, produces little berrys, which are the seeds. It produced a bunch of the berries in the green house last winter so I harvested them and stuck them in a pot, and oh ..they grew. It's difficult to find ripe berries when the plant is outside, as they are a bird favorite.

I don't know much about that blue sage other than I came accross it several years ago at Top Tropical. It is usually a winter bloomer, or fall and winter bloom. Likes part shade humus areas, does well unattended, and during certain times of the year is fairly easy to propagate. I'm not sure what the height potential is, but they have reached the 6 foot mark here. The flowers appear to turn into seeds, but as yet, have not seen any grow.

rj, what is the hardiness of the blue sage? Lee

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

technically speaking, it's not even hardy for this zone- hardiness starts at 10b.

My wait for Chalice vine blooms is at long last over. I decided to check on the other side of the fence, and was greeted with a few blooms about and inch long.
Another wait may be over for the Grandiflora Murtonii, which will be a first in blooms after 3 years.

This is turning out to be a very good autumn vine bloom here.
