Beautiful article, Randy!!!!!!!!!!

Hi! My name is Jeanne. I am a converted AG. Before I retired I grew very few plants....many reasons....didn't have time, didn't want to take the time to water them and care for them (which is my DD's problem). My Mom was the avid gardener with the green thumb. My DS was her favorate assistant. He later worked in a garden center and learned alot from his mentor my Mom as well as the garden center. He unfortunately has become a borderline AG over the past few years. He does unload my purchases, waters if absolutely necessary...even made a daylily cross while I was in the hospital a few years ago. He trims hedges, planted banana trees and sagos that I got at a bargain price, cuts back banana trees, and made me a "hut" from palm fronds.

I'm trying to convert my daughter. She did plant a flower bed and put in a pond at her new house. Her plants are still living. I try to give her a few here and there.

Today a young couple and crew came over to do roof repair, redo the siding on both ends of my house, fix the smokestack, and reseated the shed...all damage from IKE. The wife was so impressed with my sagos, and commented on how bad she wanted one.......I gave her two small ones, two papaya seedlings, an airplane plant, a datura, banana tree and a few other plants. She was sooooo excited!

I was so excited to share with a "new" baby gardener! It was wonderful! We had the best day. Her mother passed away not long ago from cancer. I told her about my BIL passing in the summer. Before they left I told her I would "adopt" her as my daughter and gave her a hug! She wants more banana trees so in the Spring we'll try to make that happen. They do not live here....just here doing Hurricane repairs.

It was wonderful to be able to share what everything was and how to take care of it.
Today there was no "blah blah blah....just AH, AH, HUH!: and "Thank you!".

Randy today I passed it on what you did for me last November!.....so, RJ, "Thank you" for helping convert me to a real gardener!

Jeanne

That is a lovely story.

Jeanne I'm sorry for your damage from Ike. We got our damage from Gustav and I've met some nice people(from the insurance adjustors, repair people and debris removal) also.

That is what I enjoy about gardening. I drag who ever makes the mistake of coming on my property to my back yard and usually send them off with a plant or 2.

Thanks! It was really fun to share both knowledge and the plants!

How funny....yep it's supposed to be 34 here tonight. I need to go out and make sure both of the makeshift greenhouses are secure...nice and tight and cozy!
Be sure to bundle up and stay warm!

34* in Baytown Tx. OUCH, BERRRRRRRR! Jerry

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm still awake and my outdoor thermometer says that it is 44, so I don't think it's going to make it that low....Thank Goodness! I think they had said 39 for one of the mornings this weekend. Too cold for me.....but thankful it's not freezing!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

I get SO antsy when I can't be outside gardening. It's still pretty warm here during the day but a night, which is when I get home from work and have time for gardening, it's so coooold!!! So I end up bundleling up in a hundred layers and still do it! (=sore throat every day!)

Hi Debra!!! Everything is looking very happy in your basement. Do you have additional lighting? Has it gotten cold there yet?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh yes , Jeri, we have had snow.. and it is cold at night, but warms up to almost 50 this week, here it always changes..
You are in Louisiana.. I have no clue if it snows or gets down past 32 on a regualr basis.. if it does, then you know we have alot of plants in the house! I have alot of lighting! LOL

The temps last night and the night before got down to the teens..

Red Oak, TX

joeswife, welcome!! That's a very healthy looking banana leaf, and your cestrum elegans is new to me, it is very pretty. Come on over to Tropical Garden #26 and show us what other plants you are growing in your basement. I have just as much fun, tending the plants in the GH as when they are growing out in the garden.
The weather here this weekend is going to be nice, but after that, it will be cold and wet.
