Good morning, sistahs!

Take a deep breath, Stacey. You will find a new job soon and not have to deal with these issues. Take it from this 'old lady' .... life's too short to stay upset. You know what they say .... 'don't sweat the small stuff - and it's ALL small stuff' (in the big scheme of things).

Have been so busy lately there is much to catch up on here at home PLUS start getting ready for Thanksgiving. All these great recipes are making it hard to decide on a final menu. I want to make them all!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Stacey, so sorry about you job, wishing you can find another one soon.

Now why on earth would someone want a pair of Punk boys stinky socks.

Kathy, I feel for you and Mike and your daughter and grandaughter. Yes she needs to be tested. Just hate it when we can not protect our kids when they get older.

Morning all!!!!!!!!!!!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

What's funny about my menu is when someone posts another receipe I'm adding to it. I will take away one (2 was the original) sweet potato pie, and adding Jaye and Janice's Praline Pumkin Dessert. I am cooking for two families though, mine and my aunt Lisa's family.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Attention all you sewers out there, I just found this on the simplicity site, and thought it was cute.

I love the pattern for the sewing machine cover and pocketed scarf that goes under the sweing machine! I just found it on that site under quilt crafts. Had to quickly come back to tell you Linda K. Now I'm heading back there again.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Linda K....when is your surgery????

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Are we enablers??? No!!! Not me. LOL

Had to share this picture with ya.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

ROTFLMBO! Thanks for sharing, LK. That's a good one.

We will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL!! Love it!

I'll be praying for you!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Good luck, LK!!
Glad to see you post, Joyce!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Morning sistahs.

I love the shoe box story, LK. I'll have to send that to my sister.
Please, be careful on your trip to the hospital today, and home tomorrow... I'll be praying that the Lord touches the hand of the surgeon and all goes well.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

LK,

Thanks for the link. I want to make a sewing machine cover. My machine needs one really bad. Which pair of socks are you going to wear, LOL for your ride back home? And that story is too cute.

Aren't those little aprons the cutest?

I had a hard time getting to sleep last night and did not get up until 6:30, I was 2 hours late? UMM but felt good. I thought Rick was still home, because I had a bed partner all snuggled up to me. Come to find out it Bear dog! Out like a light, on his back front legs stretched out, and dreaming...............

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh I hope there is still coffee somewhere. I need another cup please. Yes, took daughter out for her birthday dinner. Truly was a nice evening--only problem is she missed when the nieces called to wish her happy birthday. We can celebrate with them later.

Kathy, I thought you might be busy with your daughter yesterday. Saying a prayer here for all. I don't believe you could possibly say a bad word!!! Not you!!

Debra glad you have the day to rest. Do that now--but sign on every now and then.

Ah ha!! I see I am not the only enabler here. Wow, do I feel ever so much better. Thanks you Linda Kay. Saying prayers for your surgery tomorrow. Also counting the days until we now can have a walk in the Florida sand--well, when it gets warmer!!! Down to 29 last night.

Tina from MB, waving good morning!! Over eat on Thanksgiving? Now would any of us do that? LOL Jaye, you described it about right with the football and television. I do miss that part--just will have to let the memories suffice once again. Good ones though.

BJ hope you are feeling much better today. Appointment yet? Let us know.

Tia, Tina, Whatever, are you going to be able to "drag" yourself away from that machine long enough to do something for Punk Boy's class? You better!! If not we are going be there so quick to "take" him!!! Adopted Grandma's can be very protective at times.

Cindy, good to sleep in but I do think I would have been somewhat shocked to see the dog in bed with me. Or does he normally sleep with you? I can only let 1 cat in with me--they try to smother me if there is more. Love my kitties but not on my neck or face.

Well need to run out to finish some errands--looking for huge or bigger box for my wreath swap item. Geez, should have thought of size before I started!!! Duh!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

No Bear dog is NOT allowed on the bed. But he sneaks up when we are sleeping. Sometimes in the middle of the night I'll wake up, and I will be way over on the edge of my side of the bed , because Bear gets on and then Rick starts rolling towards me because Bear is a bed HOG!!! He got scolded this morning. But what good does it do?

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Funny you should say that Cindy. Just yesterday, I complained that Cayenne the dog AND DH are both bed hogs!!! They BOTH snore, too!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

LOL, well at least you both have someone to share the bed!! Even if it is a dog or snoring hubby.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

My big kitty, Marmi sleeps with me, when he wants to! I have sleep apnea, and the other night, he kept waking me up, walking on my head, and sitting on it, and crying. I must have been not breathing! He does that!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

If the dog and DH get up before I do, the 3 cats come and join me, but not until those two are gone!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

When we first got Skipper, the schnauzer that ran away last summer, he was already 4 months old, and a rescue dog. He was very insecure, and would not go outside without one of us going with him. We tried opening the door, then shutting it real quick behind him, but he'd just whine till one of us came out with him. Then, he'd happily do his business. At night, we spread papers down in the bathroom, and closed the door. He didn't seem to mind that, but he never soiled the papers... he'd just hold it till morning.
So, after about a month, Don decided he was house trained and allowed him to sleep with us. He wet the bed. I guess he thought since we were present, he'd do his business. So, we locked him in the bathroom at night again, and a while later, we tried it again... he wet the bed again. We tried several times to let him sleep with us, but he ruined that mattress... and we finally had to throw it out and buy a new one... he never slept with us again.

Darn LK, you must have known Judy well?? Stop lurking Judy doll.. ideas galore there for your Christmas aprons!
Sistah Deborah, there'll be more recipes for sure. Trisha still hasn't posted her mum's cranberry relish.
I'll be back.. got to take care of Ali.. he's old and having kidney problems. But he has outlived all his brothers, and I thank God for the good years he has with us. Am prepared now for the inevitable.

Ok, it’s an 50 min. past my nap time, see what you all do to me :o)

Jaye, I don’t see Crawfish often, but I might try it with shrimp. What size shrimp would you suggest?

I’ve used a well cleaned ice chest (one with a well fitted lid) set outside to hold the Turkey and I haven’t had any problems with it getting too warm or too cold. I barely have enough room in my fridge for defrosting the Turkey much less the space for a brine container. I don’t think I’ll ever willingly go back to unbrined Turkey.

What’s Praline?

Tia, Pumpkin cup cakes (I have the recipe), or no sweets either?

Linda, I have no clue what I’m making yet, besides pumpkin desserts.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Nero, black boy cat, sleep with us about half the time, Koshka, Lynx point Siamese female cat, slept with me for about a half an hour last week for the first time I can remember, and even then it was next to my head not where I was touching her. She is definatly not a lap cat, but she's become way more friendly the last couple years, she just doesn't like to be on people very often.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Btw, here is another recipe of mine:

Shrimp Polenta

6 c. water
Salt
1 1/2 polenta (course ground corn meal)
1 c. cooked shrimp, deveined and shelled (cocktail shrimp work best, but larger shrimp can be used, they just come out as shrimp rather than as part of a bite.)
Spaghetti sauce

1. Bring water and salt to a boil.
2. Sprinkle polenta into water, stir constantly till it thickens and an even consistency is achieved.
3. Stir in shrimp.
4. Pour into a baking dish (I use a 9” square 2” deep corning ware, but anything you can pour it into and have it be an inch to and inch and a half deep will work)
5. Refrigerate for a couple hours at least, overnight is preferable.
6. Pre-heat oven to 300 degrees, bake for around 20 min.
7. Top with spaghetti sauce, can be allowed to cool or even refrigerated and served cold for a nice summer meal)

This recipe work fine without the shrimp or any additions too.

Other ideas for additions that can be added to the polenta, add at the same time, or as a replacement for, shrimp that I’ve tried:
Cooked broccoli
1/3 c. of cheese
Any spices you want
Garlic
Onion

Other ideas for additions that can be added to the polenta, add at the same time, or as a replacement for, shrimp that I’d like to try:
Cook squash
Cubed or shredded chicken, beef or pork (good idea for leftovers, I’m not sure about tuna, fish or clams, but it might be worth trying)
Cauliflower
Tomatoes
Peas
Corn
Fruit

Other ideas for sauces, I haven’t tried most of these, but I might need to start making more polenta, some will obviously work with certain additions better than others:
Salsa (I think this would be great on the cold form)
White sauce
Any of the thicker dressings
Chunky Relish
Chutney
Cheese sauce
Baked fruit
Gravy

I’m sure there are many other additions or toppings that would be good that would be good, these are just the ones I could think of that seem like they would work.

Niece, French settlers brought their praline recipe to Louisiana. It's caramelized sugar, added cream to the sugar (my ex family add butter) and nuts, normally pecans...pour onto a sheet pan. Left to cool, then broken up.. voila...pralines.
The small shrimps will do. I normally add more jalapenos (the bottled kind).

Snoring dogs galore here too..

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

PECAN PRALINES
3 cups sugar
1 scant cup milk
1/2 stick butter
2-3 cups pecans
Waxed paper

Measure one cup sugar in a black iron or heavy aluminum pot and caramelize. At the same time, bring milk and remaining sugar to a boil in another saucepan.
Add milk mixture to caramelized sugar and cook together for about 2 minutes.
(Be careful when adding, cause the mixture bubbles up)
Remove from heat, add butter and beat until melted.
Add the pecans, continue mixing till thick and ready to drop.
Drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper.

Pralines and dark roasted pure black coffee in a demitasse cup. What a treat.

You guys are making my diet restrictions even harder.

BUT, I'm taking notes, just in case I might be able to use them someday.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Noooo BJ, think of it this way.
Now you know you're a very good cook, able to taste how the recipes will turn out just by reading. So....no calories for you... and no unwanted pain!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Yea, well.... the things I'm eating (drinking is a better word) leave a lot to be desired.
BUT, I bought a home juicer yesterday... tried it this morning and I have to tell ya, the home made veggie juice is MUCH better than V8...
AND did you know you can't find fruit nectar in Walmart anymore? So, I just made my own pear nectar this morning... I love that stuff.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

That's good to read BJ. I use to juice too!! Love fresh beet juice!!
Got to get me a new juicer. Left that behind in La.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I almost bought some beets yesterday... but since I have never bought fresh beets before, I didn't know if all those dark spots on them were normal... so I passed them up. I need to go get some more fresh veggies today, cause I didn't know if I'd be able to tolerate them ... guess I won't know till I try.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Like in everything, in moderation I guess.
Audrey, before you change your diet, check with the doctor first.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Stacey girl hang in there, you will find a better job and at the rate She is going, she’ll find herself with an empty office and she will have to come in…

Deborah is starting food talk again, I’ll gain another 10 pounds just reading it all…..

Cute little aprons!!!

Linda Kay that was great…..will show it to Bill when he comes home at lunch!!

Will try and find that Relish recipe today…..

I was just checkin’ on Cedric…..don’t think he is going to want to come home!!

Mom just called and she is making sausage and biscuits......be back in awhile!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

That's not gonna happen, Trisha. I sent the word on American moonshine!!! lolol!!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Okay.........that is pretty strong stuff for a frog and a tiny dog!!!

Cranberry Orange Relish

1 pound fresh Cranberries
1 large Orange
3/4 to 1 Cup Sugar

Cut unpeeled orange into segments. Remove any seeds. Do not remove peel. Place orange pieces, cranberries and sugar in food processor and process. Refrigerate for several hours. Makes about 2 1/2 Cups.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks Trisha, I can omit the sugar and use sweet and low.

Deborah and Sis... just got this news from Tiger's home.

Baton Rouge Police reported that an individual attempted to "egg" Coach Les Miles home last night. The report stated:
"An empty egg carton was recovered at the scene. Two eggs hit Coach Miles house, 3 eggs went over his house and hit his neighbor's back door, 2 eggs hit the houses of each of his next door neighbors, and the remaining 3 eggs were found broken on the ground near the carton from where the individual threw them. Looking at what was hit, police officials say they are considering quarterback Jarrett Lee as the primary suspect."

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

OH MY!!! That sounds like an article from our local newspaper....ROFL..!!!

It has started to rain and I am cold.....still have to go to the market and pick up our last vegetable delivery for the year and get some packages to the post office. If there is any time left before spin class I'm going to put on the kettle, build a fire and start planning more Santa's. Just finished the Green one and have ordered more faces from Betty......this is fast becoming an addiction!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Jaye, when Kim fixes the cranberry relish she substitue Splenda for the sugar. Can't tell the difference as far as we are concerned. It is really good!!

10 pounds--who is lucky to stop at just 10 pounds --I gain more like 20!! Oh well more of me to lo--oops guess not!! LOL

BJ fresh beets are wonderful. I do remember tho the first time I fixed them and well , let's just say I didn't have the normal color for beets. Water made great dye though. Learned after that. Hubby was extremely fond of beets so had the often--when we could get the fresh ones.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I think I remember my mom tried a new recipe once that called for fresh beets, diced. But I also remember nobody like it... so she never bought fresh ones again. We did have canned beets quite often, though... and Don loves beets, but the only way I ever bought them was canned.
SO, are they supposed to have a lot of dark spots all over them when they're fresh?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Beet greens are wonderful too......I also discovered this year that you can used Radishes and Radish greens as a COOKED vegetable.....I have loved radishes since I was little but had never heard of cooking them before!!!
