glo, Ms. Keene was hospitalized twice this summer. She is currently using a walker to get around but vows to have someone else get the fish off of the truck so she can continue feeding them. I agree with you and home Homer would show a little compassion.
Bald Eagle - Our National Symbol - Vol. #2
Ha Ha cool, and good for him.
Wouldn't you just love to find an eagle just sitting in a tree in your yard. Nice photo. The entrance to the Lock and Dam is off of 84 going north. Has a brown sign just BEFORE the overpass and you turn left. Down the road about oh 1/2 mile is all. Trying to think of where 30 is :). If you get to Savannah on 84 you went too far by about 8 miles or so .
Linth, I realize you do have good equipment, but it is your photography skills that really take the great photos! I have never seen such clear pictures and find myself "oohing" and "aahing" with each and every one.
I am fortunate in that it's a rare day that I don't look out my front windows and at least see eagles soaring. Occasionally they fly right over my house. Once in a great while one lands in a tree on the property in back of me, but never close enough for a good photo. I've gotten decent pictures at the beaches that are close to me, but it's been awhile.
You all are killing me here...
Thank you, Murmur. You are, indeed, fortunate to be able to see them daily right from your house. I consider myself fortunate to see and photograph them whenever I want to even though I have to get in the car. I usually go once a week depending on the weather conditions.
Murmur, I saw where a pair of nesting eagles caused some road work to be delayed earlier this year on Whidbey Island. With about 45 nesting pairs, there is apparently some concern whether or not the island can sustain any more. What a recovery !!!
I'm sort of losing track of my postings. Hopefully this one isn't a repeat. I try to double check my postings.
Wow look at the size of the fish caught in post 5828007 (11/24-6:13). What type of fish linthicum? I can't tell from the distance. Thanks.
Yesterday was a beautiful day ... clear, blue sky, no wind, not too cold (to me) and lots of Bald Eagles. I arrived at 8:00 a.m. and left at 3:00 p.m. (7 hours and 900 images later). At one point in the morning, 126 eagles were counted from where we were standing. Despite the number of eagles, activity was sporadic but significantly increased each time an eagle caught a fish. Most of my shots were too far away but it's difficult to not squeeze the shutter release button.
This is a series of 10 photos of an adult Bald Eagle "going fishing".
Fantastic series!
Wow - you could literally count the feathers those photos are so clear! I think #2 and #4 are my favs - incredible.
Wow, Linth, what a spectacular series of shots. The clarity and sharpness are amazing. Only 900 shots, eh?
Great shots Linth!
Photo #2 is incredible!!!!
I can't imagine seeing 126 eagles!! Amazing. Thanks as always for sharing
Wonderful series! Especially love 2 & 4! Thanks so much for sharing. I look for your eagle pictures in happy anticipation each day that you post them.
Terrific Linth...great new additions!
Thank you so very much. I'm glad that you are enjoying them. It's difficult to not duplicate a lot of the in-flight or sitting shots but when it comes to them "fishing" you don't know what to expect. As soon as a fish is caught by one of the eagles the "chase" is on. Trying to focus on the eagle, with the fish, as they maneuver and dive through the air becomes difficult and presents a real challenge, at least for me. I miss an awful lot of opportunities.
There were almost an many photographers and birders as bald eagles. If you gave up your spot along the water it was soon taken by another photographer. People travel hundreds of miles to view these eagles. Fortunately, for me, I only live one hour away.
This is a not-so-good photo of the beginning of one of those chases but you will get the idea. You can actually still see some water movement under the eagle on the far right, with a fish, and in a split second several other eagles are in the chase.
Looks like he has his eye on the prize, down below. The sun sometimes isn't in your favor as you can see with this photo. The feathers are dark and the white head is sort of washed out. I suppose if you are skilled with Photoshop and/or shoot RAW format, you may be able to overcome these issues. Any suggestions ?
