Photo's of this years Thanksgiving and Christmas Cactus

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

This is my oldest one--many years--the one with all the woody stems. last year it lost at least 2 whole sections while outside. This might have been from too much water.....

This is the one I might chuck.....So much better to just pick up a new, succulent-looking one.

Yours all look succulent......What's the secret-other than you living in FL and me-NOT!

Lets see if I remember all the questions. I am not an expert and if any one else out there who wishes jump right in a let us also hear your ideas
I pot my CC in the same mix that I use for my epis. and I water and feed the same. Hi! I am lazy so if they want water and food they have to like the same.! Mine are out side most of the year. During most of the year they get half a day of afternoon sun.(The are one sides so next year I will try to remember to turn them. Around Oct I moved my pots to the northside of the carport where they get a lot of shade.

CC's like epis need more water than desert cactus but the soil must drain. I water when they are in bloom. I have one that I just get that the soil hold very little moister and it looks like yours.

I will just shape mine up but not take a lot off. I would not cut back as far as you said, not if you want blooms next year.

I would not throw that last one out, repot it, trim back about a third and do what my grandmother would and stick the cuttings back into the pot. LOL Oh she used plain old dirt. And she feed them with manure tea. But she had not only a green thumb but all the other fingers as well. She could grow anything.

Thanks.....
SO? What is the "same soil I use for my Epis"?

I have Epis too. One of the red ones has bloomed now for 2 Summers. The other red one has not. Got them several years ago from someone in CA.

My White, Night-blooming Cereus has NEVER bloomed yet. It is too tall--all those spikes! I have been cutting them back (and rooting them, of course) in hopes of gaining a more compact plant. So far--NO luck!
HOW root-bound do you keep your Epis? Mine are quite root-bound....In 6" pots and with L-O-N-G fronds. The NBC is in an 8" pot--part wide leaves--part those spiked stems.

I DO think a major repotting is due this spring. Soil??????

Thanks for your help, Gita

That is a a subject we talked about some time a go. I use a mix of moister control GM, top soil, composted cow manure and a little bit of vermiculite. I do not let me plants get to root bound, as in the wild they grow in trees and there is no walls in the wild. 3 sites say to feed with 10-10-10 monthly EXCEPT Dec. Jan and Feb you can either not feed or give them 0-10-10. If you feed them regular food then they will not bloom.

Do not cut those growths off your plant. As they will produce leaves and blooms on these, this is a climbing plant. I would move in up to a much larger pot and it will probable not product as many of the stems. I have mine in a 16 inch pot and it only produced a couple of them this year and they have not grown very tall..
