This Thanksgiving cactus as been shaping for about five years. I have it hanging over the dining room table from the light fixture and it will be the centerpiece for Thanksgiving dinner. Please post your 'this year' pictures so we can see what's happening with these beauties! bob
Wow that's gorgeous. I have buds on the 6 I have. I think the red and lavender should open first. Mine are nowhere as large of plants as yours. Will post pics when they pop :)

Okay, what are you feeding your cacti? Where are you keeping them as far as lighting goes. More info please. Have you got a green finger or what?
I do not know about any one else but I neglected mine. I was tied up caring for me DD. I had mine hanging where they get afternoon sun all summer. Watered them when I thought about it . And feed a couple of times. Last month I moved them where the get only a little of reflected sun.

That is stunning! A few of mine are beginning to bloom, but they are much smaller than yours.
My yellow is blooming, but my orange, fuschia and white are just setting buds now.
very nice. I will be glad when I get my green house finished so I can take better care of mine. They are kind of one sided right now.
My Thanksgiving and Christmas cacti are kept with my Epie collection in my shaded greenhouse which is kept just above freezing(40-60 degree range). I feed them 10-10-10 several times a year and use miracle grow in the watering system monthly during the growing months.
As you can see in the picture, they grow in relatively crowded conditions. bob

I have a 6X8 but am having a problem keeping it heated because among other things, I'm afraid of electrocuting myself running extension cords from the house to it
Dragonfly: Mine is a 12X22 built off the side of my out building/workroom. I have just had gas heating put in which cost $300. and another $300. to fill the tank. I lost several hundred orchids last year when electrical heating failed. I have a small electrical heater I use about 95% of the time and save the gas for freezes down here in coastal North Carolina.

Thanks for the info Bob. I do have a propane line run to a shed that I could probably turn around and locate at the GH but I am afraid that any gas heaters will just be too big for the space, and overheat it even though there is a vent window. I thought maybe you had a tiny greenhouse and had come up with a space saving way to have a heat source, but your is not tiny by any means, LOL!

Bob, your cactus is beautiful. Just make sure you don't set anything directly under it that you don't want "sweetened" as I have just had to wash the nectar off the floor in my sunroom!

That site has lots of gorgeous plants. Too bad they're in the Netherlands and we'd have to pay importing fees for cuttings. Otherwise I'd be very tempted to order!

Me too. If any one wants to do all the paper work. I will want some of the cuttings. I have no can't do the paper work-would end up hitting someone over the head with a 2 by 4.

Nice I get 2 the other day I have to down load the pictures. They are red with white throat and hot pink with white throat. But mine where over 7 dollars
I got two over the weekend at Walmart. A lovely fushia with white throat and a gorgeous salmon. However, mine were $7. I couldn't resist!

Wren, you must of got the larger ones. The ones I got were in 4 in pots for 3 dollars and something. They are just in bud and not blooming yet. Still waiting for the red and lav. blooms to open....

I would love to order from the grower in Europe and I was just playing around with some cost estimates. In my estimation, if we were to buy 40 cuttings, the phytosaniatry charge and shipping would add aboutl 4 Euros to the cost of each cutting. If we figure an exchange rate of 1.30 Euros for every USD, that would be roughly about $5.00.
Some of the more expensive cuttings are 8 Euros so they would be about $15.00 each, including the phytosanitary certificate and shipping. I will assume they are using an Express Courier such as UPS so import cleartance would be included in the shipping costs.
Then add another $5 to $6 for domestic shipping using Priority Mail - for 5 cuttings that would add another dollar to the cost of each one so $16.00 each, 5 cuttings of the highest cost cuttings would be $80.00.
I guess the question is how crazy for plants are we?
I'm thinking about it.

You have Dragonfruit too, don't you? I just purchased 2 cuttings and have them in some loose mix, I received instructions for the Epi's but not the DF, do I treat the cuttings the same, no water for a month after planting but mist the plants daily?
Yes I have I think 5 or 6 and I rooted them the same as the others.
ok then, keeping my fingers crossed for success in rooting- lot of money outlay here - 2 DF and 1 EPI from GotEpis and 6 Epis from Mark Viette.
I have good success from both of them. Jim from Gotepis will gladly answer your questions. That is a small order for me!!! LOL I keep repeating that I will not buy any more untill I get the green house finished.

TroubleX2: Your picture shows a great example of a Thanksgiving cactus rather than a Christmas one. Notice the horns on the branch segments up the sides. That makes this one a Thanksgiving cactus. The Christmas cactus has segments with no horns on the sides but with a scalloped top to the segment with the flower in the middle. An Easter cactus has rounded segments with no horns at all.
Hope this helps! I, too, have caught Epie fever and have added around 90 to my collection. All are starter segments at this time but will be fun to watch. Several people sent me seeds and they are now "seeable" new plants that I plan on enjoying as they mature. I love raising orchids, iris, day lilies, and Epies. bob

Bob, I find it interesting what people choose to grow. There are lots of people who grow epis, hoyas and orchids but these plants have nothing in common, at least as far as I know. Curious that people chose those plants, and not begonias for example. I wonder why that is?

I have been into orchids. do not have the right growing condition. The good ones cost to much.
I grow or have grown some of a lot of different plants. As soon as my camera battery is charges I will show pictures of my two newis Holiday cactus
