Cassia corymbosa: Will it withstand freezes?

Pura, Switzerland

Dear green thumbs,

I have got a Cassia corymbosa, already tall as I am which I have grown out of a seed in a
falsely declared Cassia fistula (manna) fruit/bean. This winter I thought that it maybe could withstand frost. On Daves' Garden's website I found the annotation that Cassia corymbosa is frost tolerant down to -18°C. Round here it won't get below -10°C .
Can I really trust this information?
Best regards

Gabriel,

The information in PlantPiles is accurate most of the time. I was surprised to read that C. corymbosa is hardy to weather that is far below freezing.

I will have to collect seed this year and send it to my gardening friends in colder climates.

What a beautiful plant. Do either of you know if deer eat it? I'd love to try some on the outer edges of my property where there's plenty of room for it but that's where all the deer travel so I can only put things they won't eat.

It's beautiful!! I looked it up and some sites say it freezes back to the ground in zone 8,but then comes back and grows several feet the next year.

Lynn,

It grows several feet every year here (:-)

Senna didymobotrya, used to be a Cassia. It's not even a little frost hardy, will die completely if it gets frosted>
