it's a wonderful Jm. I can't believe that you still have all those leaves! that's great!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

OK, only one more. I jus think it is neat to stand in one spot and turn to get all the different shades of color. They were all taken within maybe 5 minutes this afternoon.

OK, that's it for this day.

I just love all of the shades and colors of that 'red maple'. I'm definitely going to verify what I thought it might be with the reference books tomorrow.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Wow Sharron you still have lots of wonderful color!! Everything here has lost it's leaves and the grass is now turning brown too.

RG that is indeed a beautiful fuschia!

Thanks Pixie. It's the best thing that I have right now for color.

The river went down a little bit today so I could get a little closer to the coralberries. Still not a great pic, but you don't have to hunt to find them!

I didn't notice this swing all summer, I saw it just before I took this picture. It's even directly across from the path that I take to get down to the river. The question or the challenge is... how do you get to it?

finally, some light on the the plants.

this might just be a sign that I need to get those leaves picked up.

I think that the Alder tree is trying to show off today.

morning RC
Those are great pics.
The swing is a problem for anyone over fifty.
Must be they use it in the season when the river is down.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

haha.... that's what I'm thinking JoAnn! However, I still don't see the path down there. But maybe the kids don't mind going through the black berries and ivy to get down the bank.

I forgot this one. Longer story short... my cat is strictly an indoor cat. But, I've decide to let her wonder out onto the porch to help cure her curiousity, although it's strictly supervised. She's a clueless wonder outside. But, i'm hoping that by letting her find out what's on the porch she'll not try to sneak out so much just to see what's on the "other side of the door" .... she has a thing with doors.

this is a collage of her short little outing yesterday.

the bottom right picture says on it: "Hi, who are you? what are you?"

Not sure how well versed you are about cats but they do get bored, see no problem in letting her on the porch. I would even try a porch visit in the really cold weather, my cats hate the cold and volunteer to stay inside duering the winter.
She would associate the outside with something unpleasant and not scramble to get out so much.

Great color, Sharon. Pretty kitty, Shelly. Long fur!

Thomaston, CT

What a beauty of a cat! Unusual to have an orange female---my stepson, Mike had one---a fisher got her when she was about 12--so it's a good thing to keep the cat indoors! Nice JM leaves--they are great for the fall--I'm really thinking about one. Liked your choice for poppies, Jo Ann. And that fuchsia was so unusual--I've never seen one with variegated leaves.

Shelly - love your fuschia and your kitty! Both are lovely!

Sharon - what gorgeous JM pictures! Great color!

Leaf dropping day here with all the wind. These are from my beech.

I patiently tried to catch leaves in flight. Not easy on a windy day. Got two decent oak leaf shots. A bit blurry.

Last - with leaves dropping, I can now appreciate the gnarly structure of the beech.

Love all the leaf shots from everyone.

Thanks for all the camera advice. I have always loved Canon, so I'll be leaning more toward that brand. I've used Canon SLRs for decades, but when digital cameras came out I went to other brands. So, it's back to Canon for trustworthyness.

*sigh* now to save the money for one!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Go for it, Candyce! I'm sure you'll pick a good one and bless us with some cool shots! I thought of you when I was planting the coleus. Hopefully, they'll get big and fat and give me lots of good cuttings to share with you in May!

Victor - those falling leaf shots are cool!

I'm so excited.....I planted some vinca seeds to fill out an empty garden here as a cost-saving effort instead of buying plants (which I can't find anyway...LOL), and I was thinking they weren't going to germinate. I just went out and looked again (my hourly watch) and they have germinated!! I'm such a child of depression era parents....I just LOVE saving money like this! LOL I also trimmed off some straggly stems from my magenta vinca that are looking pretty poor after my yard guy sprayed them with some Roundup. I am attempting to root them as cuttings since I see some little green leaves hanging on for dear life, so I'll let you all know how that goes.

Thanks, Louise, and congrats on the seeds! Here is a floribunda in bloom.

Beautiful floribunda, Victor! my favorite color!!

While we were having lunch on the front porch today, there was a murder of crows (about 20 or so) flying above the house across the street......I couldn't help but think of the movie, "The Birds". LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They must have been making lots of noise!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

nice pics everyone - shelly you must really like that cat - always had two growing up - no pets now, do not want to deal with the fur - wife wants a dog badly - told her if she wants one, get one - and it better be trained, one brown spot on the lawn and to the moon. Actually would not mind one except it would end up in bed with us, which is a hard stop for me.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Hey JoAnn.... In many ways I agree, 'Precious' is really clueless about foes. I have another cat that's 18 yrs. old and indoor/outdoor cat, but she's been going outside since she was a kitten and is aware of the risks and her place in the food chain and knows when to hide. She's has "outside smarts". Precious, the one in the picture, has never really been outside in all of her 8 yrs. She came to live with me about 9 months ago and has only been outside when she's snuck out or the couple of times on the porch. She's such a curious and sweet cat that she thinks that every creature is her friend. Which isn't really a good thing given that I live on the side of a forest with all of it's animals. There's also ferrel and stray cats that come up onto or under the porch to get out of the weather.

Cancyce. Good luck with the camera hunting. I don't have much experience to go on, but I like the one that I have... which is a Dmc-Lz8. although, I don't think that they do so well with the SLR types.

Victor, 'Precious' says "Thanks (meow)" Is that some sort of contorted or weeping beech. It looks like a great tree to play hide and seek under as kids!

Robin, after I got her I've had quite a few folks ask me "are you sure it's a female?" well, yes! Anyhow, I didn't know that it was such a strange thing until recently. That's unfortunate about your stepsons' cat. The thought would haunt me.

Thanks Donniebrook. I agree.

Bill.... Ahhhhh go for it. Get the dog! I highly doubt that you'll regret it.
Yes, I think highly of both my cats. My senior cat is 18 yr. old and has the typical cat attitude (aloof, does only what's on her schedule). However, 'Precious' (I didn't name her), has won over everyone that has met her. Even folks that call themselves 'dog people'. She's almost 8 years old and I just adopted her about 9 months ago. She came knowing to come to her name, she comes to a whistle, knows to lead you to what she wants, chases anything that moves, will not let you close a door without her, must smell everything, and puts her ears back when she's confused/curious. The funniest thing is that she tries to take guests to her treat bag to get them to give her treats. it's my own fault because when she first got to my place she tried to hide from everyone, I got her to come out by giving her treats. Then she just hid from new people, so I had them give her treats. Now she tries to take all new people to her treats. She even head butts (not a nudge, a thump) me in the mornings when my alarm goes off. I posted a link to a video of her trick that she uses to get your attention or what she wants, it's very effective. If you missed it, here it is http://picasaweb.google.com/redchic/MyKitty# both icons are viable video's, but one of them looks strange.
